Clipboard Help+Spell / Remote Desktop / mstsc / rdpclip Woes
« on: September 19, 2012, 03:17 AM »
I'm running CHS 2.13.01, but this problem has troubled me for years.

I usually have at least one Remote Desktop session to another computer running. We are running RD V 6.1.7600 at our company. The target machines are either Win XP or Win 7.

What happens is that the RD process (mstsc.exe) starts using a lot of CPU power on my machine (around 20% in ProcessExplorer on a dual core). CHS is start using around 2-3% of CPU power.

CHS becomes unresponsive at this point. If I kill CHS, mstsc goes back to normal CPU usage. If I kill mstsc, CHS becomes reponsive again. Usually I would not want to kill either process  :)

As I call myself a professional software developer, I think I could handle any instructions to attach to the various processes, and would gladly provide any in-depth information on the topic.

Cheers,

Christian

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Error EX4: DBISAM Engine Error #11013
« on: March 29, 2011, 03:01 AM »
I'm on Win XP Professional and I am forced to use Trend Micro OfficeScan (company policy). I have tried to add CHS as an exception (trusted program), but I cannot exclude the Database directory.

I quit CHS, deleted everything in the Database folder, restarted, and the error reappeared on the first copy action.  :(

... 'query (counter)'

That's what I get in a message box these days when opening CHS (latest update 1.47.02). This is sometimes followed (after acknowledging the first) by another one saying 'Error EX63: Operation aborted'. The installation has been running a while on Win XP, no problems so far. 'Verify or Repair Database', as suggested in the other thread, did not change anything. The error appeared before the update, too.

Any idea what's going on?

Thanks for your consideration,

Christian

Dear mouser,

Right click on the Quick Paste group, and say Edit, then modify the SQL statement: (see attachment in previous post)
Change it to something like:
NOT (IsInRecyleBin) AND (ModificationDateTime>=DateTimeMinusOneDay)

That was it!

Wow, I'm getting deep down into the heart of CHS :)

So, my misunderstanding was that the time rule for shifting clips from the 'New' to the 'Old' group has anything to do with which clips are shown in the Quick Paste Group. I hope I'll remember that until the next time when I have to (re)install CHS  ;)

Cheers,

Christian

try this: (see attachment in previous post)

Actually, I have the 'Show on Root Popup Menu' option set. It also shows up, but just with the _very recent_ clips.

as for:
P.S.: And my favourites keep being moved to the Recycle Bin, too
i'm going to be updating CHS any day now and i will fix this bug (temporary workaround is to not just checkbox the favorites but actually drag them into the Favorites group section.

Me likes it :-)

Christian

Clipboard Help+Spell / Very New Clips Not Shown On Quick Paste Menu
« on: October 21, 2008, 12:32 PM »
Hi,

I have noticed this for a while, but now I tried to do a thorough reproduction.

- Installed CHS from scratch (V 1.19.02)
- Set 'Number of Items to Display from Quick Paste Group' to 30
- Set 'Move from Clipboard New to Old group after every X number of HOURS' to 48

Still, if I have a newly added clip (say, less than half an hour old) it will not be displayed on the Quick Paste menu. If I go to 'All Clips -> Clipboard -> New' all my clips are there, but not on the Quick Paste Group.  :(

Any ideas?

Thanks for your consideration,

Christian

P.S.: And my favourites keep being moved to the Recycle Bin, too  :(

Hi mouser,

I'll just put in another plug for my Clipboard Help+Spell program if you do this kind of stuff a lot -- only because CHS lets you create text formatting presets/scripts that you can run on selected text really easily.  I use it to format text quite often -- you highlight some text -- hit the CHS hotkey to bring up the menu, choose the Formatting Presets submenu, and then select from your saved presets/scripts.

Would be great!

Cheers,

Christian

There're quite a few small utilities for cleaning and reflowing (reformatting) grunged e-mail, some of them listed on the AskMisterEmail.com Other mail tools page, many of them free.

[...]

I went there and found Outlook-QuoteFix (http://home.in.tum.d...re/outlook-quotefix/), which I will try for now, since it handles some additional Outlook quirks.

Thanks for the links.

Hello everyone,

At my company, I am confined to use Outlook as my email client. Outlook is not very smart when it comes to handling text-only, Internet-style email indenting (quoting).

I would wish for an application-independent way to apply the following to selected text:
<pre>
A line of text
Another line of text
</pre>
Select both lines -> Magic indent shortcut ->
<pre>
> A line of text
> Another line of text
</pre>
(lines stay selected)
-> Magic indent shortcut again ->
<pre>
>> A line of text
>> Another line of text
</pre>
-> Magic unindent shortcut ->
<pre>
> A line of text
> Another line of text
</pre>
-> Magic unindent shortcut  again ->
<pre>
A line of text
Another line of text
</pre>
-> Magic unindent shortcut  again -> Nothing should happen

Ideally, the character used for quoting would be parameterizable, but this is really only optional.

I have the constant feeling that AHK could accomplish that, but I don't get the knack of dealing with the notion of 'selected text'.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your consideration,

Christian

similarly, the Windowpad (search around these forums) autohotkey-based program allows you to press Appkey-Spacebar to move your maximized window from one monitor to another.

Windowpad is _exactly_ my cup of tea :-)

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

The task at hand to be solved is rather straightforward:

- I have a dual monitor system (laptop with external monitor as primary screen). The screen sizes are different.
- I have a window on one of the screens.
- I want to have the window maximized on the other screen.

Even though this sounds simple enough, I have often longed for an automated tool to do this. Especially if the window is maximized on the first screen, you have to un-maximize (i.e., restore) it, drag it to the other screen and then maximize it again. Those precious seconds that interrupt the workflow... :-)

I reckon that it might be nontrivial to figure out into which direction/to which coordinates to move the window before maximizing it again.

The user interface to this tool should be a (probably customizable) keyboard shortcut which applied the method to the currently active window.

Christian

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FCalc/FarFox Plugin Delays
« on: August 30, 2008, 03:00 PM »
Dear d4ni,

On a side note, why did you add all those folders to your search folders? Doesn't it make farr very slow, as it has to search %programfiles% and %windir% all the time? Shortcuts to programs should be placed in the start menu, which should be searched, but why the %programfiles% folder itself?

Well, the search order is start menus first, then file folders. If something is hidden in the file system, it's ok for me to wait a little.

It might be better for your to use a launcher which does index files, not search all folders during keystrokes, like Launchy.

I used to use Launchy before FARR, but the new release with the 'improved' GUI had a lot of problems. I don't care, since that was the reason I found (and fell in love with) FARR  :D

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FCalc/FarFox Plugin Delays
« on: August 30, 2008, 02:55 PM »
Dear mouser,

Sorry for the late answer, but I was on a lengthy business trip.

if you uncheck those folders, does the problem go away?

No, the delay is still there.

Christian

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FCalc/FarFox Plugin Delays
« on: August 24, 2008, 12:49 PM »
Dear mouser,

if you bring up farr, and then type the letter f, do you see the f appear and is it searching, or does farr appear to be hung?

The 'f' appears and FARR starts searching: All Users Start Menu, Progam Files, etc.

and then can you confirm that the delay before fcalc showing is only after you hit the space after fc?
i'm trying to get a feeling for when the delay occurs even if you type really slowly and give farr a chance to fully "wake up".

Hmm, no. If I let FARR search only for 'f', then FCalc comes up after hitting 'c' immediately.

try temporarily enabling the option for "Show search subdir details in status bar (slow!)" on the Display Options tab, see if it tells you anything more useful in the statusbar while you type fc.

It tells about searching the All Users' or my Start Menu.

another thing to try would be go to Keyboard Interface tab and fill in a value for the "Optional prefix character" in the Keyboard Interface tab.  use something like $ and then to call fc you would type $fc.  this would stop any normal default searching as you type $fc.. so it might give us a hint about whether the problem was a delay caused by searching your disk.

No speed-up to be noticed here.

But then... I disabled my network adapter (wireless internet at home). And FCalc came up immediately. Well, that's something!

I've attached a screenshot of my search directory setup. Some of those dirs reside on a network drive, which (now, at home) is disconnected, but for which offline file caching has been activated in Windows.

FARR_Search_Dirs.png

Hope this helps in diagnosing.

Thanks,

Christian

FARR Plugins and Aliases / FCalc/FarFox Plugin Delays
« on: August 23, 2008, 07:45 AM »
Hi,

I use the FCalc plugin very often. What I experience is a rather disturbing 3-5 second delay when invoking it, i.e., summoning up FARR, typing rapidly 'fc ' (with trailing blank). The delay occurs _before_ the blank is displayed, FARR reports 'Searching [my start menu path]'.

The same delay is here with the FarFox plugin (again before the blank is displayed, results are shown immediately afterwards). It does not occur with the AltTab or Uninstall plugins.

I tried to set the score for the plugins to an insanely high value, but that did not change anything.

I should mention that I'm almost always networked.

Is there a reason for these delays? I wish they could be shortened, since they somehow interrupt the 'rushed' feeling of my workflows... :-)

Thanks for your consideration,

Christian

hmm, correct me if im wrong but i was under the impression that the functionality to automatically launch an alias with only a single result was added a few releases ago  :huh:

This was exactly my impression. But an option would be great.

18
Christian, can you give me an example of what happens (preferably using a built in alias that i also have) so i can reproduce and test?

Hmmm, the easiest example is one you won't have: hibernate.

If I type it, FARR first displays 'Alias - from myaliases.alias' (there is only one result).

If I then select this one entry, FARR displays 'Alias hibernate'. Only the second invokation triggers the command.

19
For me, 2.14 reintroduces the problem that keyword aliases don't fire immediately, but bring up a list instead. I think this was once introduced with 2.10 and solved with 2.12.

Anyone else?

Cheers,

Christian

Dear Mouser,

The new option tree structure is neat (talking V 2.12.03 here).

Just one thing I stumbled over: The icon buttons for choosing a file/folder (e.g., defining a new Search Folder) are not part of the 'Tab Order', i.e., hitting the tab key repeatedly will never reach those buttons.

For a keyboard-centric tool, I would it welcome if they could be :-) (In fact, every field, check box, etc should be in the tab order, I just didn't check every option dialog. Also, on some dialogs the tab order is not from left to right, top to bottom, but is jumping around a bit.)

Cheers and Keep Up the Good Work(tm),

Christian

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Purging of Favorites

Hm, I'm afraid I can't find the 'Data to Keep On File' group you mention. Should it be located in the tree to the left?

Ah, ok. My heart is bleeding to use drag and drop in such a keyboard-centric application though...  ;)

Clipboard Help+Spell / Purging of Favorites
« on: March 25, 2008, 02:31 AM »
Hello,

It might be a misunderstanding on my side (or a wrong usage), but to me it seems that even though a clip is marked as favorite, it will be moved to the Recycle Bin if a time rule (e.g., clip too old) applies.

To me, that seems counterintuitive. 'Favorite' to me means 'never get rid of this clip'.

Because I kept 'losing' favorites that way, I now have no purge rules based on time activated, so that my favorites stay, and I clean the clips manually.

A rule like 'purge clips based on time rules, but exempt favorites' would seem enhancing my productivity (even more than it has already been by this great tool).

Cheers,

Christian

Find And Run Robot / Directory Search Order
« on: March 25, 2008, 02:14 AM »
Hello,

What exactly is the order in which FARR searches directories?

Is there some weighing taking the assigned points into account?

I ask this because I have the feeling that this is not the case. I have a special directory (e.g., D:\bin) which contains scripts which I write, but if I input the name of a newly added one, it seems as if FARR starts to search in specified folders on C:\, like Program Files or WINNT.

For me, it would seem logical that the points assigned to directories would result in an according ordering of search paths.

Cheers,

Christian
