why not try 3D Analyser? it allows you to change various graphic-related settings, including forced windowed mode

A few games, yes - because the cost per hour is cheaper than a cinema ticket

Okay, games are a totally different matter, I buy my games as well

And why is this? Because that is what the businesses will purchase. Why do they purchase something more expensive when they can save tons by using something else? Because schools keep churning out people that only know how to use the expensive crap. It has become a vicious cycle that there seems to be no way out.

That's for sure. Ever heard of a software called COMNET III, used for designing/testing/simulating network layouts? They used to use it a lot here. When the company was merged with another one the product line got dropped. Although there are LOTS of software that do the same job, they KEEP using that, even if they have no technical support and stuff... Another weird story from the local universities :'(

4
Plus, warez makes software more popular... Do you know how many times Doom 3 was leeched, BEFORE its official release? And something else, would you really pay for software you just want to use once, if the demo/trial can't do it?

5
It's not a key on the keyboard but I use it a lot... The reset button :P Yeah it's really useful imho. Otherwise, the key I use mostly is Tab :D

6
And no, the purpose of the post above isn't to defend piracy but to help you decide if it's sometimes justifiable or not...

7
I doubt most crackers use many of the apps they crack.

That's for sure. The scene is not about cracking for yourself, but it's more of a whoever-cracks-more-in-less-time-is-elite game.

The hardcore pirates will pirate even if prices were dropped substantially, probably even if photoshop cost $10.

What do you mean? Being 'hardcore' has nothing to do with still pirating software even if it costs a dollar... All teams did it, do it and will continue doing it, however most focus mainly in the expensive pieces of software.

(No, I'm not associated with all that stuff, I just happen to know people).

Indeed, c4n is a way to get to know that kind of people better... lol ;D

Okay, let's be honest - we all want to use the 'big names' out there. When you think of a good image processor, isn't Photoshop that comes to mind? When you think of a good sound editor, isn't Sound Forge or Cool Edit that comes to mind? How many do you think prefer The Gimp or Paint.net or Audacity over the aforementioned software? If you guys had both commercial and opensource or freeware or something software for the same task, which one would you use? So, it's a matter of quality. In MOST, not all cases though, you get what you pay for. Those questions are just provided as food for thought.

Hmm I kind of agree with f0dder, WinME was really nasty back then... And I when I really thought that it was my beta not being stable/having driver problems/etc, soon I realised that the RTM product wasn't any better :tellme:

9
Yeah but don't you achieve the same (or better) results with, e.g. a Canon EOS 5 (which I love so much :-*) or an EOS 1? Why pay such a large amount of money?

10
Actually, being an owner of lots of both film and digital camers, I strongly support film. In my possession I have:

Nikon Coolpix E950
Nikon Coolpix E990
Olympus Camedia C40
Olympus Camedia C7070UZ
Olympus Camedia C1400L
Canon EOS 300D

and some more, but none of them did impress me, even with really good lenses. Compare the results from cameras such as the Voigtlander Vito B from 1954 and the Leica CL from 1974 with the output of digital ones and you'll immediately see what I mean. There can be no comparison, and probably never will be any. ;D And no, film is nowhere near death.

11
In my opinion 35mm film won't disappear. Also, don't take megapixels for granted. Why does a Jaga camera at 8mp capture terrible photographs of unprintable quality, when my Camedia C1400L at 1.4mp (okay, its an SLR camera but still...) has better quality? So, there are other factors to take into consideration, such as the quality of the CCD etc.

12
Alley Cat was legendary...

13
4D Prince of Persia (which was freeware from the beginning, contrary to popular belief) rocked... Another World and Flashback which is mistakenly thought as its sequel were really nice games as well, actually I was stuck at some level in the latter so I recall getting very angry on it and abandoning it for Capitalism :D

14
Vectrex, Colecovision, etc. are all emulated :)

Today I turned 15, but I LOVE old games. My favourites (in no particular order) are:

Leisure Suit Larry I (EGA/VGA both nice)
Jazz Jackrabbit
Wolfenstein 3D
Sam'n'Max Hit the Road
Day of the Tentacle
Conquest.com (? really old but runs on my XT)
and more...

Screenshot Captor / Re: Will SSC work on Win95-B?
« on: January 18, 2006, 09:07 AM »
Sure there are people using Win95. A friend works for a big company who use Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and DOS 6.22 because the custom software won't run on newer platforms (skilled coders writing it, that is  :-\)

Unfinished Requests / IDEA: HTTP Tester
« on: December 02, 2005, 02:09 PM »
Maybe somebody could write a quick piece of software, preferably command-line, whose input would be a list of sites in this form:

http://username:[email protected]/

and it would verify them and store the working ones in another list in .txt - perhaps it would check for 403 forbidden, password re-asking or some other keywords. if it would also support multithreading it would be a real life/time saver for me :tellme:

thanks in advance

Finished Programs / Re: IDEA: Quick Serial Number Copy
« on: December 01, 2005, 08:27 AM »
A nice customizable perfect serial number database was made by egis/CORE, called Serials 2000. As far as I know it was written in Delphi, with no public source, and came with ~100 sample numbers which can easily be deleted to make it fully legal.

TKBOT? Was K.EXE over 600kb? If so, that's it, and it got through weak netbios shares most probably.

Post New Requests Here / WebCam Viewer
« on: November 23, 2005, 12:51 PM »
this is a little program i wrote in visual basic to download and display WebCam images. please report possible bugsĀ  :-[ the reason why i wrote it is because in my point of view no-one needs the 5mb webcam viewer from webcamviewer.de which is also written in vb, and skins will not hide poor coding skills ;)

http://www.dcmembers.com/koncool/koncam.zip

you need the microsoft visual basic runtime dlls to run it if you dont already have it

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7b9ba261-7a9c-43e7-9117-f673077ffb3c&displaylang=en

and dont forget, webcams can be found here

Hi :) This is koncool, the author of those two scripts which can be found in mouser's mIRC Script Pack. If you have any suggestions or bug reports regarding any of those two, feel free to post here. Feedback is more than appreciated :) Also, mouser kindly provided space for my personal pages. New versions of these scripts are to be made available through http://www.dcmembers.com/koncool as soon as they are out  I am really looking forward to your responses :)
