General Software Discussion / Re: The Cache?
« on: January 29, 2011, 07:36 PM »
It's more like to have some effect if your PC is low availble memory ... otherwise, what it can add to your system may be somewhat dubious.

Windows management of resources is pretty good these days.

General Software Discussion / Re: LastPass - What are your thoughts?
« on: January 21, 2011, 02:30 PM »
Lastpass has the advantage of working in almost all browsers ... including opera.

I personal never found roboform that useful.

some file managers have a display view called FLAT VIEW that will display all folders and files in one lister like DOPUS.

General Software Discussion / Re: Slash your windows boot time
« on: November 01, 2010, 06:01 PM »
I reviewed the original beta, and while it did tell me the reported seconds each app took, most info was no surprise to me nor was the breakdown of those programs I could manipulate. On the whole, the slowdown soluto added to the startup led me to uninstall it given how uninformative it really was.
Possibly good for non-geek users mostly.

General Software Discussion / Re: Windows Shortcut Key Article
« on: November 01, 2010, 03:01 PM »
I seldom use shortcuts/hotkeys ... there are too many to remember and no real logic to a lot of them ... by the time I figure out what hotkey I want, I could have used the mouse and GUI to accomplish the same  :D

62
apparently Search Everything does not list links (windows hard links), and I see no option to include those files in the search. These are important when searching for files within the windows directory.

General Software Discussion / Re: Opera to support extensions in V11
« on: October 14, 2010, 05:50 PM »
I like Opera and it's suite function from browing to email to IRC

Opera has a very dedicated and very geeky bunch of users ... it is not clear to me whether they are too late given what low percentage they had always occupied anyway.

65
I stick to LOCATE.

serach everything doesn't have any interface to allow you to select a folder .... you have to type it in as far as I know. This greatly decreases it's uslefulness to me

Under TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS.

see this link for explanation and how-to http://malektips.com...eparate-process.html

This solution assumes u execute your context menu command from an explorer window tho, probably.

68
The problem would seem to be admin related ... what happens if you set explorer to run/launch as a seperate process ? maybe the 2nd process will have different rights.

I am using it to do quick backups of a few files .

I have traded them 10 gig from  my winxp partition for more space.

I am not using sync tho

General Software Discussion / Re: IE 9 and Flash 64bit betas
« on: September 17, 2010, 07:03 AM »
I really have no need for a 64 bit flash other than form my IE where the 32 bit is the default I use ... given that this is a beta and will need to be manually removed later when the final comes out, I will wait.

I recommend using NIRSOFT's shell exchange view and shell menu view to maintain your basic context menu.
One handles actual context menu commands while the other manages shell extensions/DLL entries.

With them you can enable/disable  entries and control where/when they appear and whether they appear on the regular menu or the enhanced shift menu only.

I try to disable those I don't use or at the least make them only appear when I use the shift key ... the second is a very handy feature to use.

74
This is a great utility .... you can add any additional package of utilities, supposedly.... not just sysinternals

75
I like fences.... keeps related programs grouped together.

I sed to use Icon Restore which takes a snapshot which can be restored later from the context menu. http://users.rcn.com/taylotr/
