...were you looking at the e-mail where you clicked a link from within your yahoo account ...
-Jibz
Yes - did a right-click then open in background tab.

.. It's called PEBKAC ..
-Deozaan
I trust you enjoyed that.

Actually, I was hit by something similar via my Yahoo email account just a few weeks ago
I clicked on a link (in an email that I thought was valid) but did not verify the link first. Yeah , stupid I know.
It was an email from a friend and the subject matter appeared similar to what we'd been discussing recently.
I was signed into my email a/c at the time and the Javascript code on the site managed to access my Yahoo contacts and broadcast the same spam link to many of my contacts - including subscription list email addresses. Ticked me off no end.
I was using Opera 11.64 at the time and thought my Yahoo a/c had been hacked.
The IP sign-in logs in the Yahoo account had only my IP address - the last sign-in was the day before.

If anyone would like see the specific links, PM me.

Phishing target site at WOT:  http://www.mywot.com...orecard/wa15news.net
Whois info : http://whois.domaint...ols.com/wa15news.net
This was one target site as well:  http://whois.domaint...ols.com/ca15news.net

Pity it was not caught by OpenDNS phishing checks.
Unfortunately, I also had Opera's Fraud and Malware Protection turned off (not any more though).

I used Serif MoviePlus X5 recently and was fairly pleased
The manual is here movieplus5.pdf

As a paid option, you can find it for as low as $33 shipped (USA of course)

54
I currently use OpenDNS - just the generic filtering servers that restrict phishing, proxy sites etc.

K9 specifically met this criteria though  - I had success with it when I used to use it.
..I would like one that prompts for a password
Once installed, it's really not easy to bypass at all.

Using Notepad2-mod

http://code.google.com/p/notepad2-mod/

Will set itself up as the default notepad app.
What an absolute pleasure.

57
Sumatra PDF can do this.
Hold ctrl key while selecting

58
It's not clear to me exactly what you're after, but the Wordpad replacement that I use ( PolyEdit Lite ) has this feature.

General Software Discussion / Re: scanning sofware
« on: May 03, 2012, 06:13 AM »
I've downloaded iCopy from source forge but think that's more aimed at making a photocopier of your scanner
http://graphicssoft....opy.sourceforge.net/

iCopy at sourceforge.net
iCopy, as mentioned by Tomos, has a command line interface and it can write directly to a pdf "printer" or file.
It may be able to do what you want if the print dialog is suppressed.

60
Can you access any of the material using Firefox or Chrome?
Zotero has pretty good capabilities for archiving web page content.
An IE connector for the standalone version is apparently in development

Store anything.

Zotero collects all your research in a single, searchable interface. You can add PDFs, images, audio and video files, snapshots of web pages, and really anything else. Zotero automatically indexes the full-text content of your library, enabling you to find exactly what you're looking for with just a few keystrokes.

I was trying to decide, but this is an absolute deal breaker - for me anyway.

They also have a written policy that they only allow 3 activations for a product (irrespective of the reason) so if you are someone who reinstalls your system regularly this could have an impact. I haven't had to test their activation policy but I did send them a strong letter of complaint. I would object less if there was a way to deactivate the program and restore you activation count.

If the BDJ price is still a little steep, you can pickup the prior version for a lot less over here.

CrystalDiskInfo
Get the portable version (no OpenCandy)

I see 2 temp icons in the tray - one for each drive

Edit: it meets # 1 at least. Perhaps the manual describes more.

67
Thanks for the info Carol.
I wonder if Pelikan Software considered this might be a useful feature for PriPrinter

68
PriPrinter can do this (not free though)
The Standard version does - with full bitmap output support (including multiple pages per file if target file is tiff )
The Pro version adds PDF support, but I could not see if it supports complete bitmap formats inside the PDF file (i.e. no embedded fonts/images, only the bitmap equivalent)

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: PowerArchiver today on BitsDuJour

One thing that WinZip has that no other zip tool has (that I'm aware of), is the checkout feature.

FWIW, Nigel, PowerArchiver has the Checkout feature as well. Used to be every archiver in the land had that feature, but it seems it has gone the way of the dodo.

Thanks Innuendo

I use WinRAR for its speed and ease of use, but I also have the PowerArchiver Free version installed as well - They recently released a free version at http://www.powerarchiver.com/blog/2010/07/01/powerarchiver-free-happy-4th-of-july/ . On a less powerful system in my house, I have 7-Zip installed.

I saw a post in the BDJ comments that refer to the free version mentioned here by dhuser.
Of course, the download link for the free version is dead.

Well, guess what the "Internet Archive" has.

General Software Discussion / Re: Is WinZip still worth updating?

One thing that WinZip has that no other zip tool has (that I'm aware of), is the checkout feature.
I used to find this pretty useful for s/w with no installers.

I think someone posted recently asking for a tool that could do something like this with DC tools
Nirsoft has one, although it appears broken under Windows 7 NirSoft Zip Installer

It's an excellent imaging tool.

I'll throw in my 2c here.

Been using Opera since 2.1 in 1998.
There are things (some of them mentioned in this thread) that do frustrate me, but none of them even remotely make me consider switching to FF or Chrome

So then I need use FF again and pretty soon I'm ready to shout in frustration.
I use FF only because of DownThemAll and that only because of it's capability to rename PDFs using the link's text label instead of the filename.

Opera

My favorite anecdote (not that it means all that much these days).

On dial-up (1998), opened IE , typed in url, pressed enter and waited.
Started Opera, typed in url, pressed enter, got full page.
Switched to IE - still waiting for full page to load.
This on many sites, not just one.

Opera - still making other browsers feel glacial.

Living Room / Re: Sansa Clip Zip: Wow!

Seeing that your speakers are powered, I suspect the IPOD.
Perhaps you can find a second hand Sansa (Clip or even Fuze) on eBay
I really like their players - great sounding

Ashampoo Burning Studio is a fairly capable burning suite.
It can sort (well, shift around the order) as well as play files in the list you're about to burn (I see this in version 10)
They've given away numerous copies over the years in various promotions, but I do not know if any of those versions have this capability.

Having said that, here are a few links.
Note that version numbers do not always match directly with the version numbers that Ashampoo sell.
Burning Studio Element at Chip.de
Burning Studio 2010 advanced
Burning Studio 2010 - has direct DL link from Ashampoo

Lastly, current Christmas give away from Ashampoo (coupon is in the link - you should see it in the coupon code box)
