I have a further idea to take this program to the next level....... for awhile I have looked for a utility or batch file/script that could do this:

scan program files folder for all folders that do NOT contain any .exe files in their root.

these kind of folders are often left behind after programs uninstall themselves but leave behind "remnants" such as .ini or .bak files.  These clutter up your Program Files dir and make it hard to see what you have actually installed and what are simply "ghost" folders.

that would definitely be cool ....................

hi skrommel !
can I ask u a question-  I tried to use my resource editor Axialis Iconworkshop to "hack in" my icons (sorry.. hehe I spent some time to make them I actually grew sort of fond of them  :-[  ) and when I tried to run IdleMute this way it says the EXE is corrupted.  So OK i thought I would download the .AHK script and compile it myself with my own icons.  But I am not sure how to do it.... I see the ahk2exe tool but it has only single line for .ico file..... do I just put all my icons in this one file and make sure resource IDs match the ones in the script?  if you can tell me how to do this I would be very thankful...

hi BrotherS..... yes I saw your post... thank you for the info on that plugin.  It looks very pretty actually, but since i have 3 monitors, screen space is not a problem for me and I usually just leave the main winamp window open while I'm listening...... the volume knob is easy enough to see.  I use the incredible MMD3 skin which is wonderful.

my request for playing the beeps was more for times when I am not playing music, but rather just doing normal activities and want to lower the volume for example if a phone call comes in etc.

hey skrommel, I saw you updated IdleMute to v1.8............... can you tell us what the changes were?  :)

btw.. I have been running 1.7 for a few days now and it is working like a charm!!  thanks again for the peaceful nights sleep!!

 ;D  ;D
brilliant!

the hotkey situation is not a huge problem, if you can figure out a way to do it, then thats just icing on this already very delicious cake

107
wow skrommel you are at it again!!  :D this program is really turning into something!! now its worthy of shareware I think and is no longer what I would call a "snack" but more like a 5 course meal!

well some comments of course:

1) you didn't like my icons? :-)  well ok, yours are OK

2) hotkey is very cool feature, but when setting hotkey, if you close then reopen the settings window, the checkboxes are cleared as if it did not "remember" your settings-- even though the hotkey still works. For example in this screenshot, I had previously clicked  the 'Ctrl' and 'Alt' checkboxes for "mute hotkey" + number 6.  Then I closed and reopened the settings and now it looks like this:

it's a little hard to remember what the ~^! means etc.. any way to have it bring back the actual checkboxes etc so it looks like it does when you first save it?

3) the hotkey to change volume +/- is really handy-- but how about an option like
(x) play beep sound when changing volume

so user can get an audible feedback of how low/high the volume is when they are using the hotkeys, if they have the "show volumebar" option disabled (as I do- -- I dont want to make an extra click to dismiss this small window... i'm lazy!)
:-[

4) can we have option to disable the "soft fade" in and out when muting?  sometimes I want to mute IMMEDIATELY (i.e. when phone rings, etc) and fade is sometimes too slow... :)

maybe next one should be called IdleMute 2.0 ?

Finished Programs / Re: Program closer

I would find it handy for shutting down MS ActiveSync, which runs automatically when I attach my Pocket PC, but which I don't want running all the time
you may also wish to try ActiveSync Toggle, by Micrologics (free!) .. .it works quite well for this purpose!!

i know this is an old request already, but has anyone tried SmartClose ?  its got a very nice GUI and may be helpful...................  ;)

ok here they are... they are just small modifications of the icons in stobject.dll with some retouching... but I think they will do the job... and they are 32bit with alphachannel...   16x16 size only....

Ok I will try!  I don't know if AutoHotKey can use 32bit icons though?

edit:  I have made  a small set of icons... please go to the next page to see the post................

112
i do have a decent samsung LCD but its only a 17"...... 1280x1024......... for some reason that non-antialiased icon just rubs me the wrong way...

113
hey mouser in that screenshot ( https://www.donation...=424.msg3377#msg3377 ) what is "Alert Box (not avail. yet)" -- is that some GUI object thats only available in Windows Vista or something?  just curious..........  ;)

Unfinished Requests / Re: IDEA: HTTP Tester
« on: December 03, 2005, 09:57 PM »
can I ask what the use of this program would be?      just curious.....

edit: not sure if it will help but you may try http://www.aignes.com/deadlink.htm  its a nice program from the makers of Website Watcher which is absolutely the #1 piece of software on my PC

115
ps. don't forget to make a little donation to skrommel if you can afford it to support his work!

finally made my donation!  sorry it took so long skrommel.......... :)
p.s- donation will be coming from CashTurtle.com fyi

p.p.s-- I know this is a real nitpick but is it possible to make any more tweaks to the tray icon?  i mean does the AHK compiler support 32-bit icons?  just compare these 2 next to each other you see what I mean.... the IdleMute speaker looks like it was built in the 1980s... hehe  :-[

116
ok i figured it out... ;D

what it is is this:

when you start IdleMute, its icon is green....... I set my settings so IM is only active between 9pm and 9am.  Right now its 7:33pm my time.  So when I double clicked, the icon goes red.  then i double click again, and even though Speaker un-mutes, the icon stays red because technically IdleMute is "not active" because its not 9pm yet.  I did not know about this feature!

so anyway, the only "problem" is that no matter whether the program is within range or not, it seems like when you first launch it, the tray icon is green..... that is maybe the only tiny bug.  ;)

117
thank you skrommel!  :D

I like this icon a little better and its nice to have access to the volume slider

I do have 1 question:

when I start IdleMute, the icon is green.. if I double-click, the icon goes red (muted)... if I double click again, the speaker un-mutes, but the IdleMute icon stays red.  In fact it never goes green again ....... is this a bug or is that how its supposed to work?
thanks!!

Cheat Sheeter / Re: Any progress here?
« on: November 28, 2005, 11:01 PM »
just stumbled onto this (cheat sheeter) sort of accidentally... but after reading through it a bit, looks like you have a really cool idea on your hands mouser-- this is something I would definitely use a lot.  I am a software nut and probably have 300+ apps installed on my machine.  Trying to remember the shortcuts for all of them is probably the reason why I can never find my keys in the morning....... my entire cerebral cortex is used up storing "Ctrl-J" and "Alt-3" etc etc  ;D  ;D

Hope you get around to releasing it at some point...  I know you are busy!!  :D

119
here's an enlarged shot of how the icon looks on my XP box... you can see  the problem I think
this is using v1.4

120
wow hey this is a really cool idea!!
thanks guys!  ;D

121
ahhhhhhhh well you got me there  ;D  ;D
ok so maybe skrommel can fix it, for us feeble minded americans   :-[

122
yes I did, but I guess I still dont understand.. its like putting a square peg in a round hole...

question:  "how long should the PC be idle before muting?"
answer:  "1:00 PM"

that makes no sense............ ??

Best Dialog Extender / Re: Opinions wanted
« on: November 28, 2005, 01:20 PM »
well I cant say I've tried all of the ones in the review but I have tried these:

DM2
Dialog Box Assistant
QuickFolders

I really like DM2 a lot and have actually spoken to the developers for awhile... this project has been around forever and used to be written by a guy calling himself "weird173".  Anyway its a great little program still has a ways to go but Its on my "watch list" for when it matures a bit.

Dialog Box Assistant was too difficult to add folders to the menu and I found the GUI confusing.  I actually bought this program too since I had their other app, "Calendarscope" and was very impressed with it.  But Dialog Box Assistant needs more refinement if you ask me.

As for the rest I settled on Quickfolders.. it does what I need it to with a minimum of fuss and has a nice GUI.  It has been stable for me and I dont really need the "enlarge dialogs" or "always set view to details" features although they would be nice to have and I have sent the author a suggestion to add those features to the next version... so maybe v4.0 will stand up better to the others.  But for me anyway, I would rank it a 4/5.

124
ok just tested it out--- really like the interface and seems to be 99% perfect   ;D

just a few comments, suggestions:

1. tray icon is kind of hard to see and "fuzzy" around edges on my XP box running @ 1280x1024.  can you maybe simplify it a bit --- maybe just a nicely colored/shaded green/red box?  this would make it easier to tell the difference between IdleMute and the "normal" XP speaker icon.

2. the setting "how long should the PC be idle before muting?" -- why does this have a timestamp selector on it? I am not sure what to set this to...... is it minutes/seconds elapsed since midnight?  so if you want 10 minutes then you set to 12:10:00 AM?  not sure why you have chosen this type of control but a simple text box with "# of minutes" would be more intuitive I think.

3. on the right-click tray menu, if the user picks "IdleMute" (the bolded top item) then it actually toggles the status of the "Mute" option which is the next one down.  This is not intuitive, either selecting "IdleMute" should open the About box or it should be removed completely.  No need to have two menu options right next to each other that both do the same thing!  :)

well thats it for now, thanks skrommel !!!

125
wow!! I was gone for the holidays and it looks like skrommel was a busy beaver!!  :D
this is awesome I am going to download it and try right away!

thanks always skrommel for your amazing dedication and work!
