looks "Super Simple" alright! will there be a super simple non-installer version be available for download? Unfortunately no. First reason, the deployment looks like this: AssemblyLoader4x86.dll Camera.ico client.wyc msvcp100.dll msvcr100.dll Photo Resizer.chm PhotoResizer.exe unins000.dat unins000.exe Uninstall.ico wyUpdate.exe Now, you could download the installer then extract it with something like Universal Extractor (checked - doesn't work -- the installer is signed so UE can't extract it), and you'd have that, and it would run, but you wouldn't get the registry entries for the Windows Explorer integration or any of the shortcuts. I'll be explaining what the deployment files are in future blog posts. Second reason, having a second deployment would require too much explanation and complicate things too much. The entire idea is to simplify things as much as possible for the target audience so as not to confuse them. Multiple deployment options (other than EXE vs. ZIP) requires having additional explanations which clutter up the page, which is something I'm trying to avoid. I sucessfully managed to uniextract the installer. I have got the same set of files in Photo-Resizer-Setup\{app} folder as in your deployment list above. Beautiful icon, btw. Maybe you want to tell your users that it requires .net 4.0 to run and that the installer will DL and install it on their system if not present.

I'm really not liking the Age column being displayed but I don't mind having that info. How about I just show the highlighted person's age in another section on the statusbar instead? +1 That or a tooltip maybe? Display age info, days left, and notes per name (if that's implemented) when hovering over a name.

I'm trying to avoid adding more columns since they're such small listviews to begin with. Well, I would rather have another small column and have the 'Notes' window at the bottom of the of the app or not integrated at all (pop up, YaY!). I think 'days left' is very useful for someone (like myself) who likes to do things at the very last minute .

A minor request (I hope)... when clicking on the 'Full Forecast' link (from the main Window or the 'Expanded View' one), it takes you to the 'Forecast' page for your location but the unit is Fahrenheit. To see the forecast in Celsius requires another click Could you make sWeather adjust the link depending on the temperature unit? Thanks.

Excellent little helper. Kudos to grandma Marlene. Love the icons. Wish they were pop out cake style icons, though A request (or two)... 1. add to the right-click menu a check/uncheck all just for a specific month. 2. would love to add a comment/note by double clicking on a particular birthday. Is that possible? Cheers, Phil

AutoUpdater, Open Candy... a sure recipe to stay away from your software.

I am not going to go down this path with you, Renegade. You seem to be annoyed at anything and anyone that does not think like or hold the same views as you do. Your initial post was (intentionally, maybe) vague. I think you were hoping to get the kind of response that would give you a chance at another rant. Well than, I feel blessed for being part of a process that helped you release. Anyways, 'Automatic Updater' and 'Automatic Version Check' is not the same thing (both not welcome,IMO). It should be a user's choice whether a software connects to the Internet every run.(I do not have a funny video to attach here, sorry. ) Bye.

Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: What the hell is OpenCandy?
|

Just out of curiosity: are you going to state right up front on your download and product info pages that it contains OpenCandy, identify it as an adware application, and say that if you don't want to install it you'll need to explicitly tell it not to? and that tracking software may remain on their machine even if they later "uninstall" it.
Or are you going to let them find out about it after they download and start installing like it seems everybody who is including it does? Well 40hz, I didn't see you warn me (us?) that the article you linked to was on a page a) full of ads b) which used at least 1 type of tracking mechanism c) left behind files on my PC (numerous cookies, at least two of which were for tracking my browsing habits) even after I browsed away from the page. That article, was every bit as evil as people seem to claim OC is. Funny. That didn't happen to me. I have a cookie and ad blocker installed on my machine. But apparently this discussion is getting you upset. So tell you what. Let's just forget it. Ok? ----- P.S. Perhaps I didn't warn you because I didn't know? It isn't my webpage. Which is a bit different than somebody who signs on with OC and does know what it does. Or at least I assume they would before they started deploying it. That's app's blog you linked to.
