SIP = Session Initiation Protocol

List of SIP Software

You should check out Comparison of VoIP Software for freeware alternatives.

Well, about those security software options, you can use SpywareBlaster, SpyBot and Spyware Terminator combined to achieve maximum protection about ActiveX threats on IE, but ONLY in IE. With Opera and Firefox you must rely on realtime scanners, or use another of the options offered in form of extensions or plugins. But then again, they're more resistant to those attacks (but not watertight, of course).

@Lashiec
Good stuff. I would add Comodo BOClean to the mix.

BTW, Spybot offers "Permanent Opera Immunity"

General Software Discussion / Re: Latest MS updates borks WinXP?
« on: August 15, 2007, 08:43 PM »
I find updating/patching my XP Pro box a real annoyance. I experienced similar issues in a previous security update and system restore saved my a**. Now I do a backup first and install the updates manually.

Also, here's the link for thumbwin. This looks pretty interesting!

apfel: are you a chinese speaker?

The page is in Japanese but the program comes with an English language file.

That would be awesome. I use Rendersoft CamStudio but think that a screen capture and recorder in one would be a great combo. Development for CamStudio stopped but Source code available at http://gnuwin.epfl.ch/sources/camstudio/

ImageTool can view it correctly.

IE7 save target as function saves it as cmyk_test.jpg while Opera saves it as .png. Opening the image with paint shows the correct colors.

1. FLV Convert by James Hansen (aka Qjimbo)

"Description: Using ffmpeg, this program acts as a frontend which allows you to convert FLVs to MPEG or AVI"

Discussion at http://forum.doom9.o...ex.php/t-104183.html

2. Online FLV Converter (I have not tried this service yet)

3. Good info on .flv file converterss at http://1024k.de/book...eo-bookmarklets.html (Scroll down the page)

@nudone

Care to post the image you were testing with?

Looks like Gimp supports CMYK format but there's also a plugin that does that. More at http://www.blackfive...co.uk/separate.shtml

Also, Scribus and Image Analyzer might be a good option (TIFF reader plugin support CMYK color format).

General Software Discussion / Re: custom submenu on the start menu
« on: August 10, 2007, 05:24 AM »
You could also rigtclick start button and select "Open All Users", create a new folder and add shortcuts there. For a customized look, rightclick on the new folder and select customize... See pic.

Have a look at NirExt. The "Create Shortcut+" option is what you want.

QuickMenu is another alternative. The page is in Japanese but there is an English version for download.

General Software Discussion / Re: Software to record in MP3 format

I like this one: http://www.audiograbber.de/

Not a recorder though. Wavosaur seems like a good option, but I haven't tried it. mp3mymp3 was featured on Lifehacker a while back.

Totally forgot about Audacity. Audacity is a free audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems. Main Features:

- Record live audio.
- Convert tapes and records into digital recordings or CDs.
- Edit Ogg Vorbis, MP3, and WAV sound files.
- Cut, copy, splice, and mix sounds together.
- Change the speed or pitch of a recording.

$%&*$%! AAARRRGGGHHH!

This is the 3rd time I've written this post! (Browser crashes & tabs closing... Grrrr...) I think it's time to write a browser rant here... :(

(Off topic) check out TextArea Backup UserJS

VLC is my media player of choice.

I don't have any desktop theme software, but i have patched windows to support custom themes, and i use this theme because it's darker and smaller than any of windows' default themes.

Same here, I patched UXTheme.dll and am using XPMC style by ~b0se (Ross Harvey). @tomos check out http://www.neowin.ne...php?showtopic=140707 for details (version 4.0 is the latest) and an informative article at http://www.tech-reci...dll_file_xp_home_pro
