mouser, off the top of my head: A photo frame app. You can distinguish it from others by making it highly customizable with regards to where it sources the images from. Images stored on the device, specific tags or users on flickr and other photo sharing sites, specific subreddits, Facebook users & albums, ftp directories, a google search... whatever image sources you can think of - a combination of one of more sources should be possible.

Most iPad apps seem to be targeted towards idiots and aren't very customizable (...I wonder why  :P ), it would be easy to separate yourself from the herd.

Nearly missed the replies (I posted that 3 years back :) )

Tao: Yes, it's possible he got someone else's data. If they were music/movie files, the guy may not have been able to tell if they were his to start with, since it's common practice with college kids to swap entire media collections.

Mark0: Those are interesting possibilities I hadn't considered.

General Software Discussion / Re: EMDB: Eric's Movie Database
« on: June 06, 2012, 11:30 PM »
@mouser, I was thinking more on the lines of not having the first post see the light of day until it's been approved by a mod. And relying on members reporting spam for subsequent posts. I brought it up because there have been occasions where I've noticed obvious spam in a user's first post.

But I'm sure the forum must be getting hammered with a lot more spam that joe user never gets to see.

@4wd, I stopped using PVD when they got rid of the grid feature. They got it back again years later and by that time I'd committed to Collectorz. I get by with Collectorz (and the unofficial support for importing from IMDB), but PVD was a lot more fun to work with. Collectorz has apps for iOS and Android, so that's a definite plus.

This particular post was a bad example, the guy posted an alternative sw for the same category. I wasn't really thinking about having mods google posts. So _that's_ what wraith meant by increased workload! *lightbulb.jpg*  :D
Yeah, that would be totally OTT.

Not if it's spread among several volunteers...

I have a feeling the idea has been discussed before and dismissed because it may send fickle new users packing? <- IIRC.

It would be so easy to cut off spammers if the first post was vetted by mods.

I haven't experienced any quirky behavior WRT scrolling on the 1st gen iPad I use. I've set Atomic as my default browser but tried it with Safari and got the same result - scrolling works like it should in both portrait & landscape modes.

Sometimes the posts show up with the smileys all mixed up, the browser even pulls much larger smileys (which aren't even accessible via the 'more' link) from somewhere and puts them in random places. It's bizarre and occurs randomly. ;D

Opera is an amazing app for loading sites to capture screenshots (much more secure than Firefox). I don't have to worry about what's in the (Firefox) bookmarks toolbar or what I searched for last (using Firefox). For normal browsing, I prefer Firefox. /troll

My (state owned) ISP has finally blocked TPB. Indian efficiency at its finest...

Can you spot the insane hack I had to apply to regain access?

Living Room / Re: What will be your next computer?
« on: May 19, 2012, 11:43 AM »
I don't really need a laptop but I've decided to get one the next time my PC conks off. I intend to use it as a backup machine to carry me through the down time. My ASUS mobo had conked off a few years back and they took three weeks to replace it. If that happened today, I'd just buy a new mobo on the spot and eventually get stuck with a spare. Makes more sense to buy a backup machine.

The only catch: the laptop's going to gather dust once the desktop is operational. I'll probably start it up once a week or so for backup and maintenance.

I tried Reddit Pics HD and sprung for the Pro version 3-4 days back. I'm hopelessly addicted to it. There's also Alien Blue for iPad, which is a more comprehensive (and extremely polished) Reddit client but Reddit Pics HD makes is so damn easy to wade through content... I haven't been this hooked on an app for... I don't even know....
MAKE - IT - STOP!!!

That's hilarious!  ;D - and so damn true!

It took me a few years, but I've mastered the fine art of asking people to f*** off, or to "Google it!", depending on how fond of them I am. :P

So I finally realized the feed auto-discovery button has gone missing in Firefox.

The feature can be brought back by customizing the toolbar and adding the insipid "Subscribe" button.

I don't see that happening with Google Drive. It's not one of their bizarro services that barely takes off and can be quietly taken to the back and shot in the head.
