@Carl when it says "Word not so bad considering who wrote the thing" I meant that I wrote the word processing program.  So no way it would be perfect.  :)

I was referring to the drinking thing.  :)  No worries.

Yes, I know the formatting is terrible for the PDF.  We have tried to help her in various ways, but it has all be for naught.  She's been the secretary for quite some time and is set in her ways.

Keep in mind that the printed version of the document does not have the massive blank areas, as they are filled with excerpts of hymns.  It looks acceptable in the printed format.

Miles, either that or she keeps a bottle of something in her desk. ;)

Heh heh.  So you are saying not enough page breaks and too many booze breaks?  :)

If I wrote a word processor it wouldn't be named Word Perfect.  It would likely be named Words not too bad considering who wrote the thing.

That's not nice :)

That's as close to perfect as we ever get.  Thank you!  Some credits are heading your way.

As for copyright, my understanding is that the church has permission to print a specified number of copies of a document that has copyrighted hymns that are duplicated from the hymnals.  This allows us to own less physical hymnals than we would otherwise need.  Those printouts are available at the entrances of the church on Sunday morning.  The copyright agreement specifically prohibits distributing that copyrighted material outside of the church or providing a digital copy as it might be printed more than the allowed number of times.

I am in charge of posting weekly church documents on our website.

I fell a little behind this week and am only just now getting to the documents that need to be up by tomorrow.

Our secretary refuses to use anything other than WordPerfect.  Usually she sends both the WordPerfect file and a pdf that she has generated.  This week, she left off the pdf file.

I have tried doing the conversion through Google Docs, MS Word 2010, Libre Office, and an online service and all either mangled the layout or refused to even try to open the file.  Word and the online service say the file is corrupt, however they say the same thing on other WordPerfect documents I have received from the secretary as well.

Can anyone help me out?

I have attached a zip file with both the wpd file (Easter 2 - April 27 2014.wpd) and a pdf from a past week (March-09-2014-Lent1.pdf).

The reason for the past week is so that you can see that things always look a little odd with part of the decorative font on the front page and large blank spots throughout the file (supposedly due to copyright concerns).  In theory, it should be easy to get a PDF that looks somewhat like the March-09-2014-Lent1.pdf file from the wpd file.

I would just put up the slightly mangled version Google Docs can give me, but I just know someone will get upset about it (you know how us church people can be  :wallbash: )

Thanks!

Carl

I occasionally get stuff like that.  My response is to to what 4wd does.

The worst (at least for the individual who did it) was a few months ago when some guy with my same name used my email address when saving an online application for a security sensitive civil service job.  I got an email telling me that I could access "my" application by clicking a link.  When I clicked the link, I was taken directly to the application with every single bit of private information about this guy.  SSN, driver's license number, birthdate, current address, past addresses, phone numbers, current employer, past employers, family member info, and other assorted info required for governmental background checks.  I was surprised that no password was required to access the saved application.

In that case, I called the dude and told him what he had done.  He seemed genuinely surprised that the email address, which I have had since gmail launched, was not his email address.

Very fine, cthorpe, no need to give you the benefit of the doubt a second time in a row when you SYSTEMATICALLY twist my words in order to "answer" to something else I never said, or even better, to make me not having said things that are obviously there. (Just a hint, though, do it "by accident", here and here, then it will perhaps go unnoticed and pass your manipulative message, but if you do it with every sentence, well, it's ineffective when it becomes too apparent.) Thank you.

Wow.  So that's how you treat people who are trying to help?

I've re-read the enormous amount of text you have posted in this thread, and I still don't understand what it is you want or why you want it in the first place.  Maybe you should take a moment and think about whether or not your posts are clear.

All I do know, is that I'm done with this thread.  It's not worth my time to offer free advice when you respond in such a manner.

So you want to have a graphical interface to use keyboard shortcuts?  Why the insistence on more than 2 panes if you aren't going to utilize them in any real way?

If you want to input keyboard commands to move files into your sorting system, then create scripts in the program of your choice to do so.

Heck, you can even create the scripts inside of DO and call them via key sequences.

You clearly have a ridged set of requirements for how you are going to work with your files.  Why would you expect a file manager to understand your system and work with it, when your system is yours alone?

And if you want to move from "anywhere in the lot" to "anywhere in the lot," how many panes do you need?  At some point you are going to have to manipulate the panes to show where you want to move the files.  Once again, why demand more panes when you will just have to find the correct destination?

These developers are just too lazy to implement some 80 lines of rather simple code: It's insulting. (We're not speaking of cloning and hoisting, let alone multiple tree re-arrangements in outliners (cf. Bonsai): there, you'd need real good programming capabilities for. We're speaking of core functionality and of implementation taking 2 hours of these developers' time, make it 4 incl. debugging. Njet. Not for 100 bucks apiece. And then, as tomos says, and as others have said before, DO seems to have got some probs with images, anyway.)

80 lines of simple code?

This thread is many, many times that number of lines, and I still don't think we are all clear about what we are even arguing about.

If you need four panes simply to have targets to drop files into when sorting them, why not use the folder tree views?  You can lock the each tree to show whatever folder you want, and then you can drag and drop whatever you want from either pane.

The conspiracy nut/pessimist in me says that there will be "pressure" or "incentives" for DRs to go back to the old days of over-prescribing addictive drugs....

A sore back?  Have 6 months worth of Vicodin.

A little trouble sleeping?  Valium for you and your whole family.

Having a toddler makes giving gifts to family so easy.

We just buy 9"x12" canvas board in bulk from an art supply warehouse and a bunch of tube of non-toxic, washable finger paint.  Then we sit him in his booster seat with old clothes on, newspaper covering the table, and a plastic drop cloth under him.

My wife handles squirting the colors he asks for on the board and wiping his hands as necessary. I wisk away finished paintings to our drying area and drop new boards in front of him as needed.

We can easily produce 15-20 beautiful paintings in an afternoon.

Looks interesting.  I will have to play with it a bit to see if it is something that I am going to keep around.

Typing this in Boxer, so we'll see what happens when I save.

As far as I can tell, it only removes the ads that appear on the lock screen.  It won't remove ads that are part of apps that the end user installs from the Amazon market.

How many here would like to use their computer the way he did in 'Minority Report'?

Whenever I see something like this, the first thing that comes to mind is, "Wouldn't your arms get tired?"

I love Singing in the Rain.  I have a publicity still autographed by Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, Debbie Reynolds, and Jean Hagen hanging in my office.

Another favorite is Bad Day at Black Rock imdb

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: BitsduJour Malware bytes Deal

The free version is always the first out of my tool-box when faced with a family member's malware laden computers.  I usually talk the owner into purchasing a license to help keep them protected once I leave.  Rarely do I hear complaints about the program, and rarely do I come back at a later time to find their machines infested again.

And back when I spent way too much time obsessing over security, it seemed that one of the first suggestions given on various security forums when there was a suspected infection of some kind was to run the free version of Malware-Bytes.

I expect Mr. Rutherford has a text editing software that automatically can vary a bunch of phrases - otherwise merely $20 (6,000/300) for a review really is too cheap, I think....

{Yes|Affirmative|Right you are|Yes Sir|You got it mister}.  The same kind of {program|software|code|magic} that {generates|produces|makes} those {articles|stories|pages|pages of text|blatherings} that {you|people|surfers|unfortunates} {find|locate|discover|happen upon|fall victim to} on the {internet|web|world-wide-web|www|intertubes|blagosphere|blagoblag} that {read|appear|look like|render} like {a hopped-up thesaurus junkie|someone who just discovered Word's thesaurus feature|a monkey with search and replace} {took a few too many liberties|went crazy on them|hates you and everyone who might come upon that site}.

And spin away...

If you aren't allowed to use RecentX, are you going to be allowed to use another program?  Why won't they let you use RecentX?

MoonEdit was in development from 2005-2010 with real-time, collaborative, multi-platform text editing http://moonedit.com/

I have used it with students for collaborative writing exercises.

Apparently it can also do collaborative complex math expressions and multi-track music editing.

Thank you both!   :-*

I just redeemed the link so nobody got to it first.

Is it still available?  I would love to have it!
