N.A.N.Y. 2009 / Re: NANY 2009 Release: CrazyLittleFingers

Kwacky nice program. I have one question though. You mention sounds in the introduction, is that something that you still need to implement? Another question, what about the directory structure, do you have plans to allow multiple image sets?

Guys it is actually not as bad as it sounds, the content stealing I mean. At least if they have the decency to link back to my website. If they do not I usually report them to Google Adsense and every other advertiser that they have. Most of these sites do not have means of contacting the owner. Telephone Issues are linking back to my site with the right keyword, that's nice. Technology Blog on the other hand is not.

Mouser thanks a lot for posting this. I owe you ;)

30
40hz no offense taken, just wanted to correct the issue ;)

I don't think that we will get those letters anytime soon. It could happen but Microsoft did not seem to take an aggressive stance on news sites in the past and I doubt they will change that. It's free publicity for them. It would be a different story if we would have registered Windows7.com or some other premium domain name that Microsoft needs for promotion.

31
Full feeds are activated but somehow only the first paragraph is shown, will look into it. Thanks for the tip ;)

32
40hz that was a personal comment. It simply means that I'm happy that they did not change the name because of the domain names that I own ;) I did not rate the name in any way although I think that it will do better than Windows Vista or any other name like that.

About the apps getting updated. While it hopefully is not their top priority it was time to update some of the applications that ship with every new Windows operating system to this century. I hope they stick with the "simplicity" theme throughout the whole operating system.

33
Well it is not all about access speed. The Registry is loaded during system start and a smaller Registry is loading faster thus reducing system load time.

Well I follow the forum and the site closely Mouser, hehe ;)

Mouser thanks a lot for the nice words. I really enjoy writing about free games and will do my best to discover new and exciting games that are worth our time ;)

Mouser any news on shortcut support :)

37
don't say you run Adblock Plus on my blog Lanux128, shame on you   ;)

38
That is a very nice application. I used it to create screensavers from Youtube videos, just had to convert the flv to swf format first. Wrote a how to on my blog about it ;) I really like my Day of the Tentacle video walkthrough screensaver, hehe.

Nosh I have no problem with criticism that is justified and I prefer to be reminded (nicely, I have a weak heart) that I fucked up (e.g. forgot a link) than not reminded at all. I did not do anything wrong in the three cases that you mentioned though, but if I do in the future, you know where to find me.

40
I happen to forget links sometimes, that is true. I add them then once someone mentions it or I discover it by accident.

Windows 7 article: Got tipped of by a reader with a direct link to the forum.
Last.fm: My feed reader has currently RSS feeds of about 500 sites and portals including blogs from many popular websites. Guess how I found out about it ?

Read Email: Spy Pig was first mentioned, IIRC, on Go2Web20.net and not on Digital Inspiration. Did Digital Inspiration mention their source ? No they did not. Did you post the same accusations there ? No you did not. I do not like linking to Go2Web20.net because if you open that website you see that there are no direct sites for each service that they write about, just a huge page with logos.

I'm not saying that I'm perfect and I tend to forgot links from time to time but I try my best to cite my sources. That's all I have to say about this. But continue if you like, would be a nice blog idea I guess :)

Mouser it does not really make a huge difference if I mention a source in the first part (that hits the frontpage) or at the end of the article because articles are mostly accessed directly anyway.

Living Room / Re: The Rule of 3 Drives: How to Build your Next PC
« on: January 11, 2008, 08:46 AM »
Interesting topic. I plan to get one of those SSD drives for my operating systems. The prob is they are really expensive right now and you have to know which one to buy because there are old and new models. Makes this kinda complicated. I for one will wait until reliable benchmarks are available.

Post New Requests Here / Re: Write on Windows Desktop
« on: January 07, 2008, 01:16 PM »
Mouser I would like to write directly to my desktop without having to open another software first. Desktop Messenger is more of a drawing fun program and not what I have in mind. I just want to be able to jot down short notes quickly right on my desktop. I'm currently using notepad files to do that which gets kinda messy after a while. Desktop Notepad the other program mentioned here is a) commercial and b)like all those Sticky Notes programs out there.

The other thread mentioned did not deliver a desired result as well. Ideally I would just click on a free space of my desktop and would be able to type in text that would be permanent until I would delete it.

Post New Requests Here / Write on Windows Desktop
« on: January 07, 2008, 03:47 AM »
Well I'm not sure if this is possible at all because I never heard of an application that would allow it. I'm thinking of a way to write text directly to the Windows desktop / wallpaper without opening another application to take the notes. Would this be possible at all ?

General Software Discussion / Realtime Screencasting Software
« on: September 06, 2007, 11:15 AM »
Hi,

I'm desperately looking for a software that makes it possible to work with a few people over net and look at one of the computers and possibly even interact there as well. The reason I'm looking for this is that I work with a friend on a new website project and a lot of coding has to be done. We live far apart which means that it would be nice to work on one pc together somehow.

Do you know of a software that is able to do that ?

45
How can you choose the Barrett ?

I made it through with only the Hunter rifle without problems, I got the Barret but I could not pick it as a weapon ?

46
Wow. Thanks a million. I'm really honored by your review and award ;)

Living Room / Re: password-protect external HD (USB)?
« on: February 05, 2007, 03:48 AM »
I have been using True Crypt on my external hard drive for the last 18 months and it was the best choice ever. Setup is not complicated at all, the help file provides a walkthrough to encrypting the whole drive / part of the drive. You just have to decide on the encryption algorithm alone, just do some research on the subject, should not be a problem.

The best feature is that there is absolutely no speed decrease while using True Crypt. Absolutely recommended.

Living Room / Re: Tower Defence: Flash Game of the Day
« on: December 19, 2006, 05:33 PM »
When this was on digg some guys did some pretty accurate calculations and the green towers have been the best money / power wise. They also found out that it is impossible to get the third update of the "flower"-tower which means that the game needs some fixing to work as intended.

I have been using Hamachi for some time mainly to play games over the Internet with some friends that only support LAN multiplayer. Sure, it works with all pirated games as well with the main benefit that the key of the game is not checked on a central server because the game thinks it is a lan game.

I would definately use ftp instead of Hamachi for sharing some files with your friends.

Thank you very much, this is indeed a great tool. Would it be possible to add multiple folder support to the program ?
