Great idea.
Mouser, could you also add an option that FARR takes up the whole screen space leaving a definable border space around it. I always maximize FARR and leave 40 pixels of border or something like that around it, but when I change to another resolution - when doing a power point presentation -, it all gets jumbled and I have to twitch FARR again to its right position and size.

Cheers,

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: KlipKeeper (A FARR2 Plugin by hamradio)

Hmm, for some days now when starting FARR I get a message box telling me 'The file "klipkeeper_data.dat" is not a valid KlipKeeper data file!'. I keep deleting the file, but then after some more cycles of shuting down and again starting my computer and FARR it returns.
It has now content at that time (0 Bytes).

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FarrUninstall plugin - v1.0
« on: July 29, 2007, 12:19 PM »
Uninstallers that have 2 entry points that show as buttons "Modify" and "Remove" in the "Add/Remove programs" dialog get invoked as if through the "Modify"-button. So for those applications it is impossible to uninstall them via this plugin.
One such application is the Java JDK 6 ( http://java.sun.com/.../downloads/index.jsp ).

Great plugin.
One minor bug, though: When I uninstall an application via this plugin and then open the plugin again to uninstall another application it still shows the already uninstalled application, but now without the icon. Looks like a caching problem.

the updating process from version 2 to 3 does not work with dcupdater on my machine. It's stuck at "got update file" and then opens your homepage in Opera.
I'll just manually update but in case it's recurring, you best know.
I can confirm this problem. It's happening here, too.

Hi taichimaster,

This and your other three plugins are great. Thanks for developing them
A feature request: Could you add the name of the owner of a process to the output in the status bar that is shown for a selected entry. I don't use the location column, but would like to see this info in FARR. Would it also be possible to show the status of a process in the status bar (e.g. is it still responding or has it somehow crashed.) In task manager this is shown on the application tab.

Cheers,
  Robert

rbeeger, i just realized that the ability to shut down running copy of farr wont work on older version of farr, just from now on.  can you try running the new installer again while your current new version is running, and see if it can shut it down ok, or if not, if it gives you a warning.

Hi Mouser I now installed #116 over #108 and it worked fine. I don't know whether it is possible, but if it is, it would be good if the installer could check whether it can shut down the running FARR instance. In the case that it cannot, it should show some kind of message and request the user to shutdown FARR himself before continuing the installation.
Seeing this flood of errors would probably be a shock for users upgrading from FARR1 to 2.

Cheers,
  Robert

Hi Mouser,

The installer for FARR 2.00.108 is supposed to shut down any running FARR while installing. That didn't work here. It somehow shut down something, but the tray icon stayed and I had to click my way through a ton of access violation and other error popups. I canceled setup then, restarted Windows, exited FARR myself and run the setup.
That's not really a problem, but since it's meant to be a feature, I thought I'd mention this bug.

Cheers,

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New FARR Plugin: FCalc
« on: June 10, 2007, 04:37 PM »
I appreciate the plugin
But wouldn't it be easier to just call up the normal windows calculator and do the calculation stuff there?
I prefer FCalc because it doesn't try to look like a real-world calculator. I like it's history view, it's ability to assign values to variables, that it is always there when I need it (you just need to open FARR) and that it is just simple and straight forward.

i'm really really happy to hear that you guys like it.
please keep the suggestions coming for it, i'm happy to add new stuff, and the source code for it will be released with the
Converter functions would be nice dec->bin dec->hex etc.

Cheers,
  Robert

Find And Run Robot / Re: slenderFARR - a new skin for FARR
« on: April 11, 2007, 11:57 AM »
rebeeger,
with this skin, can you move FARR window? If not, how do you propose this can be done?

Also, is there a way to control the font size, color, background color in FARR's window?
There is a small caption bar at the top of the window. You can click on it and move the window around. To aim at that region with your mouse cursor can be quite challenging. Move the cursor to the top of the window until the resize cursor appears. Move the cursor a very little bit down until it changes back to a normal cursor then press the left mouse button and move the window.
There is a simpler method for changing the location of the window. Resize it on all four sides until it takes up the place you want.
I know that this would be horrible for a skin used in other applications, but since I normally don't move FARR's window, I don't think it's a big pain.

Cheers,
  Robert

coooooool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May I add this to the set of skins installed by default with FARR ?

Sure,I'd be honored to have my skin added to the default set of skins

Regarding the usability issues.. Perhaps i can make a special exception to turn of this skin while configuring the options.

Yeah, that's probably a solution. Typically the configuration windows aren't used that often. So they can stay unskinned.

Find And Run Robot / slenderFARR - a new skin for FARR
« on: April 01, 2007, 09:44 AM »
Hi,

I created a new skin for FARR.  It's meant to be minimalistic or well ... slender  :)

It's also meant to be used with transparency switched on.
Since it's tuned for FARR's popup window, there are some usability issues in the configuration windows of FARR:
 • The close icon is very small and hard to aim at. That's because the title bar of the window is very small and I didn't want to see a dominating  close button on the popup window. The close icon also only appears when the mouse is over it. It is in the top right corner.
 • Text input fields don't have any borders. That's because I wanted the text input field in the popup to be borderless.
@mouser: Would it be possible to have an option to define a skin for the popup and another for the other windows. I would provide a version of this skin without the usability problems for use on those other windows.

The screenshot shows FARR with disabled status bar, disabled tool bar and hidden column headers. The column headers are also skinned. So if you like to have them visible, that should be no problem.

To install the skin copy the skn file contained in the attached zip file to FARR's skin folder and then select it in FARR configuration on the "Display"-page. To get around the mentioned usability problems, you can temporarily change to another skin, make your changes to the configuration and return to slenderFARR before closing the configuration.

Enjoy,
  Robert

Hi Mouser,

Nice plugin, but unfortunately it's useless for me since I'm putting all my bookmarks on del.icio.us with the nice del.icio.us bookmarks Firefox extension. I wonder if someone could create a FARR plugin for del.icio.us?

Cheers,
  Robert

I think that's a nice idea. Not a "must have" but definitely a "nice to have".

As for me, I could live with having to reconfigure F&RR.
We'll be here to welcome the next version once it's finished. :)

Good idea. I sometimes use calc to do some simple calculations.
If I could do them in FRR, it would be just cool. I don't need the buttons. Just the possibility to type in a term (with parenthesis) and have it evaluated would be pretty cool.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Remove toolbar from main window

Screenshot of Stealth on Win2K showing the Barbie Syndrome! With the title removed - that UI is as minimalist as it could ever get!

There's a dirty workaround for this. Specify a big enough negative number - e.g. -700 - in Border -> Caption -> Text Offset X and you'll have a title bar without any text on it.

next youll want me to get rid of the results window and then the edit box...  :-\
 No, not really. But when you nearly never use this toolbar, you really don't need to see it. For me all that I want to do with F&RR takes place in the input box and the results table.

the toolbar is resizable by dragging - you should be able to drag it all the way to the right and thus make it invisible..

Cool, now it looks perfect.

i hear ya - it will be in the next update.  :-[

Thanks!

Find And Run Robot / Remove toolbar from main window
« on: October 07, 2005, 01:46 PM »
Hi!

Now that we can disable the status bar, I'd also like to have an option to disable the toolbar.
So we could have a very minimalistic and therefore sleek F&RR with only the input field and the table. The context menu of the tray icon contains an entry to open the preferences (which are called options here BTW). So it would always be possible to bring back the toolbar.

47
Hi, mouser!

Please enable skinning for all forms in F&RR not only the main window.

« on: October 05, 2005, 12:09 PM »
BTW: Could we get rid of the status bar on the main FARR window. In the preferences window it makes perfectly sense to have a status bar that shows informations about the different options, but in the main window I don't need a statusbar that tells me "Wellcome master" or informs me that I can right-click an entry. I think getting rid of the status bar would make FARR look better.

i think i can add an option for that.
Thanks for adding it.

ps. in the future can people post such requests on their own threads; easier to track and not lose track of.
You're right. I'll try to keep that in mind, next time.

what about the table would you like to customize? background image or color? font size/color/style? i can probably add that myself manually..
Forget it. It's not your fault. Windowblinds recognizes the table and skins it itself along with the statusbar.
