I think I found out another issue with this update : Sandboxie (latest V3) refused to work until after I uninstalled this patch.  Found that on Sandboxie user forum.

Well not exactly : I installed it within sandboxie, got to the webpage to get the license. Then I erased the sandbox.  So the app is not installed and I have a valid license, but if online activation is required, they may forbid it after April 29th.

Personnally, I rely on Photonlight products.  They are small, easy to use, well built and not that expensive.  They run promotion regularly.  And they have models where the LED is partially shielded so that the user doesn't get any part of the beam in his/her own eyes. Just my 2 cents...

I used to rely on the snapshot feature on my Vista Machine, up to version 2 that was fine.  I cannot vouch for this version though, but this is the version with this feature (it's a Rollback kind of feature).

There seem to be an issue with scripts with this release.  I cannot elaborate more, I just recommend you try on your side and see if it works. On my side they refuse to execute, saying the script couldn't be loaded.  And I am talking about scripts generated by this new version.

All USB sticks come formatted as FAT.  But FAT can't store large multi-gigabyte files.  Does anyone see any problems with formatting a disk in NTFS?  I can't come up with a reason not to...

you can always use an archiver like winrar that can split big files into chunks of 4GB max. And keep the FAT32 format.

(Obviously) not if you want to use the files directly, though - like large .WIM files for Windows installs, or HD .MKVs for playback on a media thingamajig

I've used NTFS-formatted pendrives for a while, and they work fine (as fine as those unrealiable POSs go, anyway). Only trouble I've run into is that NTFS is read-only on OSX, so you can't use it to get data from loose-wristed coworkers :-)

Sure, but when clicking on the .rar file it will uncompress it to a temp folder and run it from there. Less efficient but it would still work - you still need winrar installed I think.

Reading that would be "point nine bar". Some mathematical notations are used differently in different situations. I believe that they mean "ad infinitum" there. So:

nine minus root nine plus point nine bar = 9 - 3 + 0.999999999999999999999... = 7

Math is just wonky sometimes with odd symbol usage. I generally think of "bar" as meaning absolute value or ad infinitum for several digits, with dot being used for 1.

[Departure from the Northern Wasteland]

Don't know if anybody is into classic Berlin School electronic music. But I think Michael Hoenig's 1977 LP Departure from the Northern Wasteland is still one of the best - if not the best - that genre ever produced. (With apologies to all the Tangerine Dream and Ashra fans out there.)

Pleasant and listenable. The perfect "for headphones" meditation or background music.

It was released with two different covers. (I prefer the one with the balloons myself. )

This "video" is just an audio track. You'll have to let your brain generate its own images for this one. Bon Voyage!

Here's an interesting one from both a musical and a historical perspective.

Back in the early 70s, the ABC network hosted a marvelous concert as part of their "Wide World (fill in the blank)" network brand. In this particular instance it was the Wide World in Concert series, and the performance was Cat Stevens and his 1973 Moon and Star concert.

Note: the audio quality leaves a lot to be desired since it's dubbed off analog video and suffers from the limitations of 70s era recording technology. Not that it really matters. Cat Stevens packs more musical inventiveness and creativity into the seventeen and a half minutes of "Foreigner" than most songwriters generate in their entire career.
