General Software Discussion / Re: download url
« on: March 29, 2008, 09:54 PM »
is there a download manager that can:

1. download html (optionaly recursively)
2. download every x seconds (random interval would be best)

thanks

that's nice

I always wanted a program to monitor my download folder and extract archive files that pop in

I tried truebell, I liked it alot but it displays chinese letters and it feels bulky

1680
I tested 7z and I didn't like it

examples of what I want:
1) automaticaly move to tray when extracting (without having to click 'background' in winrar)
2) option to delete or not archives after succesful extraction to be at hand (and not in second tab, as in winrar)

but I won't compromise speed and reliability, I wont risk to loss data

General Software Discussion / Re: files and folders emulator

because I cannot have opened the external drives all the time and all of them are too many to have them opened, even for a while

(by open, I mean to have them connected to the pc and working)

General Software Discussion / files and folders emulator
« on: March 28, 2008, 09:07 PM »
hello

I have several external hard disks with files

I need a program that will gather the names and size of all the files and folders in them and it will create a database of all the files and folders

then, when I paste a file in a specific folder, it will check if the files is duplicated and it will popup a warning of 'file already exist' as if the file existed

this will save me from having duplicate files on each of the drives

is there a program that can do this?

I know that it can be done with specific RAID hardware, but I want a software solution

I would like to make all the files and folders to all my hard disks (that are external) to appear as if they were all in one disk

and I then to use this hypothetical disk as a database of all my files and folders so that I can check if a file is already there or not

thanks

General Software Discussion / best copy-paste tool
« on: March 23, 2008, 06:28 PM »
hello

what is the best, fastest, most reliable copy paste tool?

I would like to move files to specific folder easily and fast, without losing data

PS: best copy/paste of text tool would be very interesting, but another topic

thanks

1685
no

the same with Opus, the same with Salamander
it takes ages to open the tree view of D:

almost I admit Opus was extremely faster, but it maybe a coincidence

there must be either my hardware (laptop) or some other software or the OS

but as for the hardware, I consider it more than enough to open D:\ with few dirs in it

it wasn't this way from the begining of WinXP installation

thanks, but I really need an alternative of Httrack, I have hard time with this program and it is not as much customizable

I wuold use wget, but I cannot make it to automaticaly choose and use the appropriate cookie

1687
I need an independent-of-explorer file manager

it may use cmd.exe or any other way to read the hard disk and make file operation (file rename, file move, etc)

it will be more fast

when I try to open my D:\, explorer freezes for some seconds (trying to read the many dirs and files maybe?)
the same happens with Directory Opus
but NOT with cmd.exe

General Software Discussion / download url
« on: March 20, 2008, 08:28 AM »
hello

I need a program that will download urls from a list in a text file

it should just save the html (saving the complete webpage, ie. the html AND a folder with the files, should be optional)

also, it should use any cookies necessary from the web browser (IE) in order to authenticate

last, it should download every few seconds between each url, or with random time interval

do you know any program?
I already know wget, but I have problems with cookie authentication

thanks

hello

can anyone tell me IF any of the mentioned or other file managers are independent of explorer.exe?

I am not sure how file managers work

do they uses explorer.exe to get access to the folders and files and then displays the information with their own style?

do they use explorer.exe to perform its tasks? (eg copy, paste, etc)

or are they totaly independent of explorer.exe?

I am asking this, because I see very little or maybe zero difference between file managers and explorer.exe, when I compare the speed, system resources consumption, stability, etc

I love the interface of file managers, but I really need a more optimized, stable and fast file manager than explorer.exe, that will be able for example to open fast a dir with many subfolders, etc and not just to offer customized buttons and menus

thanks

I want to delete eg this text:
</tr>
</table>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</form>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>

<hr class="hidden" />
<table id="footer" width="100%">
<tr>
<td>&copy;

the files are html (that can obviously be considered as txt)

yes, a regex replacer would do that, but it's hard for me to turn the whole text block into single-line regex text, I just need to copy-paste the text block to the application :D

edit by jgpaiva: fixed code tag

General Software Discussion / Re: get the text from html

The easy way is to copy to the clipboard, then paste as text. That can be automated as well.

this is what I want

as for lynx, I am struggling to learn to use it

Post New Requests Here / Re: ahk script to open tabs by hovering
« on: February 20, 2008, 11:40 PM »
yes, I have tried it, it is brilliant!

but I don't think it does exactly what I want it to do:

1) I want to activate-by-hovering the tabs in Opera, just like the "Tab Mix Plus" extension does in Firefox, and NOT to activate ALL the controls in ALL programs (just specific controls, like opera tabs, in specific programs, like opera)

2) I want to activate-by-hovering the buttons in WinXP taskbar (this shouldn't work with other controls)

3) also, it would be handy to activate the Start menu, by hovering over the Start button

I managed to do them with jgpaiva's scripts both, but the problems described in the above posts still exist

General Software Discussion / Re: links collector
« on: November 17, 2007, 06:20 PM »
first, I need something that will "monitor" every webpage I visit, as I browse the net
this monitoring has to be very accurate ofcourse, which means it must not miss any webpage even the webpages that are partially loaded etc

by "monitoring webpages" I mean to grab the text, links and files of every webpage I visit
by "the text of the webpage", I mean the text that is highlighted/selected when we click ctrl+A in a webpage (included any other "hidden" text, etc)
by "the links of the webpage", I mean the links that are grabbed when we hit ctrl+alt+L in Opera or any other method that shows all the links of the webpage (included any "hidden" links, javascript links, etc)
by "the files of the webpages", I mean the files that are included in the folder that is created when we save a webpage which created an html file and a folder (and any other hidden files, embedded files, etc)

as far as I know (and if you know something else, please inform me) the available methods that can monitor web browser traffic are these:
javascript can monitor webpages as I browse the net (opera, for example, has this javascript function: document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',function() { where it does things when the webpages are loaded)
internet connection sniffer can monitor webpages as I browse the net, that can sniff urls
web proxy can monitor webpages as I browse the net, as it works as a cache proxy

then I need to apply filters to specify which of the text, links and files are useful and then we need to save the filtered information

any help would be much appreciated

thank you

thanks for the info

indeed some programs like mIRC have integrated copy-on-select feature

I found autohotkey scripts to be more buggy and clumsy than autoit scripts:

this is an attempt to do it with autoit

General Software Discussion / Re: opera 9.5 beta out
« on: November 08, 2007, 01:16 AM »
For a great number of beta testers though, Kestrel is pretty rock solid (as it is for me, I use it full time). And as urlwolf will attest, a well placed bug report will do more to improve the software than moaning that alpha/beta software is buggy.

for me, its so buggy I went back to 9.24, not to say firefox
bugs appear when you open more than 40 tabs (which is common when you do research on the web), keyboard shortcuts don't work, opening of autocomplete takes ages, cursor doesn't become hand-shaped over links, etc

And as urlwolf will attest, a well placed bug report will do more to improve the software than moaning that alpha/beta software is buggy.

no moaning here, you misunderstood, just posting my experience
and I did and do alot more to improve the software, me have posted numerous bugs and suggestions
but I disagree alot with opera devs' tactic and orientation

I may some day post some videos to demonstrate the bugginess of the current betas
