Is it anything to do with non-standard paper sizes like 'letter' ?
202 Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: CTRL-Click not capturing regions in RedBox mode on: February 11, 2007, 04:01:53 PM
I'm an idiot  smiley

Of course, it didn't occur to me that it was because I was CTRL-clicking the redbox caption. When I tried CTRL-clicking within the selection area itself it worked perfectly

Pressing the right-CTRL key on its own (while the focus was within the selection box) also worked, except since I have Highlight the pointer when you press Ctrl set in Mouse Preferences I get the concentric circles appearing in the capture. This isn't a problem with CTRL-Click as the capture triggers on the click, so by the time you let go of CTRL triggering the concentric circles the capture's already been done.

Maybe there could be an option to make the trigger  pressing down, rather than letting go, of the CTRL key, or to add a minimum delay of a second or so when activating with a CTRL key?

Anyway, thanks for the fast reply Mouser - sorry it was such a dumb question  cheesy
203 Software / Screenshot Captor / CTRL-Click not capturing regions in RedBox mode on: February 11, 2007, 03:19:09 PM
Haven't needed to do a region capture for a while - and now it seems that it's not working  Sad

When I've got my region correct CTRL-clicking doesn't do anything. I can right click and select 'capture object now' from the context menu but this superimposes the menu line on the capture image - example attached.

I know the keys are working fine as I see the XP concentric lines zooming on the mouse pointer when I release CTRL. I can't be sure that nothing else is hijacking CTRL-click though nothing else seems to happen in any other app.

I'm using v2.30.04 but I've just had a look at my laptop which uses v2.28.06 and I get the same issue.

Everything works fine without RedBox.

Oh, and no, I don't have the delay on  Wink

Any suggestions?

Thanks  smiley

The one in the top left corner next to the numbers - with a capital L laying on its side, an apostrophe swaying over at 45 degrees, and a vertical line.

Not quite the same thing, the general idea is that you leave books you've finished with in public places and see what happens to them.

i'm surprised that Sony hasn't been mentioned.. though like katykaty, i use the mp3 player that comes with SonyEricsson mobile phone..

btw, there's some promotion going on at their website..

Sony's players are fantastic, but if they still use SonicStage software I wouldn't recommend - it's crap  Sad

How about something like a Sony Ericsson W800i with a 2 gig memory stick? Don't know if it'll record the fm radio though.

Just downloaded v2.28.02 - haven't really had a chance to play with it yet but at first sight it seems to have fixed the MS Keyboard hotkey issue.  Thmbsup

I can't believe you actually offered to buy an MS keyboard to try to fix this: either you're a kitty angel  Kiss or a bit obsessive  Wink

Either way, I'll be reaching for paypal again  cheesy

Big thank you Mouser

Found an odd 'bug' - at least I think it's a bug  undecided

Just installed SsC on a PC with a Microsoft Digital Media keyboard, which has some extra programmable hotkeys, and uses Intellitype Pro 5.5 (the latest version) to control them.

Whenever I press one of the hotkeys, SsC clicks and captures the screen.  huh

The hotkey still works though.

I'm not sure if it's an 'Entire Workspace' or 'Current Screen' capture as I only have 1 monitor. I don't think it's a hotkey thing - changing the hotkeys for either has no effect, and if I close SsC and run SnagIt with identical hotkeys SnagIt doesn't try to capture anything.

Only a minor irritation - but an irritation nonetheless  smiley

Any thoughts?

For e-mail templates that are "structured" (ordered) and somewhat "static", The Form Letter Machine utility is a much better solution.  Go to mouser's zone here on DonationCoder and download it.

You can create a pull-down menu of structured trees (templates) from which to select from.  You can also create a pull-down menu of symbolic variables from which automatic variable substitution within these static structures can be made.  It's a much better solution for canned templates.

As Mouser also pointed out to me, you can include any XML/XHTML codes in your templates at well, so you can get quite fancy.

I'm using The Form Letter Machine for an events announcement list I moderate with very good success.  Now I thought about going hog wild and setting up an RSS newsfeed for this announcements digest as well.  That requires generating some XML and conditional assembly, in which case the Help & Manual application maybe better, but that's really an overkill in most cases.

Thanks for the comment superticker - yes, I'm planning on using FLM too. But I'd still appreciate submenus - out of sight, out of mind - until I need the clips  smiley
216  Special User Sections / Activation/License/Language Help / Re: Do I have to use my forum name in the license key? on: November 09, 2006, 05:21:13 PM
not a stupid question.
if you are a supporting member (donate whatever amount you want), i'm always happy to make custom license keys which say whatever you want.  it's a bit harder if you are not a supporting member because i'm not quite set up for it; it could be done though if need be.  you can email me at

Thanks for the hyperfast reply Mouser  smiley

I've just donated - and I see the key uses my real name (presumably from the PayPal info) rather than the forum name - I'm happy to go with that so no need for a one-off key - unless other people want to use it, in which case I'll get the company to pay me to make a further donation.

217  Special User Sections / Activation/License/Language Help / Do I have to use my forum name in the license key? on: November 09, 2006, 04:39:51 PM
This may be a stupid question, but:

I want to install Screenshot Captor on my work PC. I don't want the license screen to show my personal forum name. Do I need to set up a new forum account so I can generate a 'depersonalised' license key?

Thanks  smiley
218 Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: Problems capturing objects on: October 28, 2006, 02:56:44 AM
Great  smiley

I wasn't moaning - just suggesting a way to make it better  smiley

Incidentally - something else Snagit does pretty well is its use of capture profiles:

There are some predefined ones and you can easily set up your own - so you could have it capture an object, with the cursor, and save it as a specific filetype in a specific folder automatically, in monochrome at 50% scaling etc etc just be clicking the profile name, clicking capture, and clicking the object.

The quick buttons on the right to turn cursor capture on & off and quickly set the capture settings are great too.

You'll be thinking I like Snagit  smiley  I do - it's great - if you're working on improving Screenshot Captor it's definitely the standard to aim at - steal from the best, as they say  Wink

219 Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: Problems capturing objects on: October 27, 2006, 05:10:07 PM
do you mean that snagit properly jumps to the objects like the buttons when you move over them, or do you mean you can manually move a small box and position it exactly where you want it?  is it clear what im asking?

Mouser, thanks for posting  smiley

I mean Snagit properly jumps to the objects.

So in this Quick Reply box for instance it can identify the bold, italic, ... bullet buttons as individual objects, or all of them together as a toolbar object; this text box, the Post and Preview buttons, this text box, the box to the left with the 'with a quick-reply ... ' text, just the 'with a quick reply ...' text itself, and so on.

It's really good at detecting objects within objects, so for example there's the toolbar on this page with Forum Home, My Profile, etc buttons. It can select the whole toolbar as a single object, or the 'My Profile' button as a single object, or even the text 'My Profile' on the button as a single object.

Impressive, eh ?     Wink

220 Software / Screenshot Captor / Problems capturing objects on: October 27, 2006, 01:02:13 PM
When I try to capture an object in (say) Firefox using Snagit 7, I can capture an individual icon:

But in Screenshot Captor I can't get anywhere near as close:

What am I doing wrong? If I can't capture individual objects this might be a showstopper for me  Sad

... add some options for letting user have submenus for their favorites and better display favorites separately from quickpaste so that you won't run out of places ...
I wouldn't make it too fancy.  Honestly, people don't want to see more than 26 items in their Quick Paste menu.  What they need to do is define the Quick Paste SQL search so less than 26 are in there in the first place.

Honestly, I didn't even realize you could do this until I read this thread.  Now that I know how to limit (control) the items in Quick Paste, I can probably adjust the SQL search criteria for just the items I really need.

Hi all  smiley

Just discovered you today; I've downloaded this to evaluate and so far first impressions are VERY impressive. Congratulations.  thumbs up

I'd love to see submenus - so I could have a submenu for email templates, then underneath that submenus for the various types of emails I send, with each template as a separate item.

Then the clips would be out of the way unless I wanted them.
