General Software Discussion / Re: Do you touch-type or hunt-and-peck?

My train ride to work every day is an hour there and an hour back. And there is nothing more irritating than listening to some fool two finger typing the whole journey.

Clicketyclicketyclickety CLACK!     Clickety CLACK!  Clicketyclickety CLACK!

Well, almost nothing ;)

Stop recommending freeware apps!

I have a feeling the OP is after something a little more, er, valuable  ;)

Living Room / Re: Question About MS Word Lists & Tables
« on: September 23, 2009, 02:14 PM »
You're reliant on the consistency of the original list, but if you're feeling lucky:

Paste it into a blank document, select it, then Table, Convert, Text To Table.

If it's consistently formatted Word should guess the layout and therefore the number of rows and columns. If not you can try to force it yourself but you'd need to be lucky.

Living Room / Re: ghacks examines tools to download Youtube videos
« on: August 21, 2009, 12:59 PM »
With so many sites besides Youtube displaying videos, is there a video downloader that will allow you to save any streaming video, not just Youtube videos?  I've seen some that allow other sites but not from many of the sites I'd like to download from.
You'd think there would be some generic download program that would allow you to download any streaming video regardless of what site it is on.
Thanks in advance

nmharleyrider there aren't many vids that don't succumb to either Download Helper or the Grab ++ part of Orbit Downloader.

Put a continuous section break at the start of the text you want in columns, and another afterwards. Then click in the middle section where you want columns.

By default when you set the format to columns it'll only apply to the current section.

Another hotel with one of those signs in the bathroom saying, to paraphrase 'Please leave the towels you want us to launder in the bath, and we'll leave the rest, because we are lovely caring people and want to do all we can to reduce damage to the environment'.

Grrr  >:(

I'm not stupid you know

At least have the honesty to say

It costs us a fortune to wash all your towels, you awful smelly people!

Do us a favour by keeping some of them clean. It'll add to our profits or cut our losses, and you never know, we may pass the saving on to you. Or maybe not.

Oh, and as an added bonus, it's good for the environment if we're not doing so much laundry, though we know that you know that we know that that wasn't really a consideration.

Polish Bisongrass vodka  :)
One of the few Vodkas that actually taste decent, and can be drunk without mixing it :)
Correction: one of the many Vodkas that actually taste decent, and can be drunk without mixing it :)

Just find your local authentic Polish or Russian bar/restaurant and book the next day off work  :D

People pronouncing Bruschetta as 'brush-etter'.

Especially when they work in Italian restaurants.

Especially when I pronounce it right and they 'correct' me.

I would go for OpenOffice Impress. It's very similar to Powerpoint and even uses similar concepts like slide masters.

One really important point to make about presentation software is that you don't need to know how to add transitions or make bullet points fly in one by one or add multimedia or fancy backgrounds or clip art because that kind of tut just gets in the way of your message.

So long as they can figure out the very basics your teachers should be fine.

I'm guessing that the OP has tried that  ;)

I've heard positive comments about 4TOPS Compare Spreadsheets but not actually used it myself so make sure it's what you want.

Also I don't know if it actually compares formatting or just data.

Sorry, don't have a solution.

But when I saw the thread title I thought 'Huh? My monitor doesn't use ink.'

It's been a long day  :-[

She could always spend a few weeks in London.

Since every Aussie will sooner or later find themselves working behind a bar in the UK she might as well get it over and done with now  ;)

Seriously, when I was a student in London - please don't ask when - it was always easier to get accommodation around this time as students dropped out.

She could try the universities. They should have lists of available property/recommended agents.

You're doing two things here.

Firstly, looking at a set of data from several different perspectives. Pivot tables are ideal for that. There are lots of good tutorials on how to use pivot tables - for example http://www.ozgrid.co...cel-pivot-tables.htm or http://www.microsoft..._tables_collins.mspx

Secondly, testing 'what ifs?' for different unit sizes For this, the Scenario Manager is what you want. Again, lots of guidance on the web, have a look at http://www.contextur...om/xlScenario01.html

First thing that springs to mind is HLOOKUP - because presumably your source data will be horizontal rows by name?

General Software Discussion / Re: random number generator?
« on: April 29, 2009, 01:02 PM »
If you have Excel you can use =RAND() to generate a random number between 0 and 1 plus a macro to convert that into a time/amount.

TFLM has so much potential to be a fantastic app  :)

I've got some suggestions:

  • Conditionals based on variables. So when you're filling in, if you've chosen the option radio button for 'Paid In Full' any other option selections with the same name elsewhere will also get selected.
  • Slightly easier to use variable entry - rather than overtyping variable values have standard windows fields
  • Include radio button options in the variable list at the top right so you can enter everything in one place
  • How about intergration into CH+S - suppose you had a tree with 5 variable names, two checkboxes and 3 sets of radio buttons. The last 10 things copied onto the clipboard could be the variable values. So you could associate a global hotkey CTRL-SHIFT-F to bring up a list of trees, select the one you want, CH+S feeds the variables into TFLM which works out the output text, TFLM previews for you and you Enter to paste. I'd love that  :D

I'd have thought that one of the final updates will be to remove the requirement to activate.
Even if they could do that (I don't think they will) you need running XP to install an update. I know I can try to play with nLite and slipstream all patches BUT it has real problems with Polish Windows version which I have.

In theory: you've got 30 days to activate but it has never been working for me. If I skip activation during install I have no chance to do it later. It is always saying right after installation that time to do so ended.
-fenixproductions (April 08, 2009, 02:56 PM)
Perhaps they could make an official patch available; you'd just need to take care to keep it in case of reinstall, though it's possible a copy or two might find their way onto the web  ;)

Or they just set their servers to automatically validate anything, even if the code is 1AMAT 413FA ND15T 0L3T4 15XP1

Please, please don't try to validate with that code  ;)
