Or just as easily, have a look at this  :)

Could it be that Access isn't reporting distinct windows correctly?

Now that's an indigenous idea  :)

At least I think that's the word  ;)

LaunchBar Commander / Explore sub folder part way down a folder node?
« on: September 04, 2008, 03:46 PM »
When following a folder node along, sometimes I don't want to open a document within the final subfolder, but open an Explorer window (or in my case a Dopus lister) showing the contents of a subfolder higher up the tree.

Is that possible? I can't figure out a way to do it if it is  :D

Thanks

The Royal Bank of Scotland has sold a laptop containing 1 million customer credit card details on eBay.
No it hasn't. Someone else has. Read the story again.

General Software Discussion / Re: Nero - WHY?
« on: July 28, 2008, 09:24 AM »
Thanks for the link but I never have problems with single layer DVDs and I have plenty of sources for cheap ones - it is dual layer discs I have problems finding at a reasonable price and consistently burnable.

For example - yesterday I burned 4 dual layer DVDs with ImgBurn (I thought I would give it another go). The third disc burned but wouldn't verify so I burned it again in Nero where it burned and verified correctly. This has been my experience in recent months with ImgBurn - regular unverifiable discs which burn fine in Nero. I rarely get a duff Nero disc. Trouble is that a 30% failure rate in ImgBurn is probably about what I expect now (with DL discs - SL discs are fine). And that is unacceptable because the discs are so expensive in the first place.

Not sure how good they are but Scan are selling various 10 pack of 'Aone' dual layers including printable for less than £4.

Not sure - as it's on the Adobe website I suppose it could be Captivate?

I call my Sipgate number and leave a message - which gets emailed to me as a .wav

Or if I'm abroad I send a text to the same number (it's cheaper).

Or you could just open

Don't forget to add <a href="http://www.youtube.com">youtube</a> to the list.... all featured video's have a lil something something behind it. :)
;D  My faith in YouTube is restored

Fantastic tune, great voice, really fancied him at the time too, ginge or not  :-*

Living Room / Re: USB Flash Drives: What to look for or avoid.
« on: February 26, 2008, 02:41 PM »

I got a 512MB Flash Drive a few years ago and I've never lost it. It came with a very durable rubber case that connects to my keychain.

When I use it, I leave my keychain out. So when I grab my keys to go, I'll notice the weird looking hollow rubber shell, grab the USB drive (if I forgot it) and go. If I really lose it, then I've lost my keys too. Which is why I put a txt file on my USB drive with my name and address so if someone is feeling charitable they can return my stuff to me.

Or if they're feeling not so charitable: pop round and help themselves to the rest of your belongings  ;)

You're welcome  :D

And now I'm going to print out that pdf - which will make it the only copy in the world, and therefore extremely valuable - and cash in  :)

I'm rich, rich beyond my wildest dreams  :D

115
OK, now I remember why I gave up on using pages - they're a nightmare to manage  :-[

And now I remember why I tend to use Screenshot Captor instead of exporting  :-[

I know, I know; we spent a heap of £ on something we don't use properly, but come on, have you ever tried using Inkscape? I'd happily work down a coalmine a month to save up to buy ANYTHING that meant I didn't need to use Inkscape  ;)

Anyway, back to Shaun.

I've exported all the pages to separate eps files (seems like that's the only way). The page size seems to have got lost on the way but I assume that's manageable?

Amazingly the eps files together are 68Mb but zip down to less than 4Mb  :o

Are we getting there?

PS - you may have noticed that right now I'd rather be doing ANYTHING than my proper work  :D

116
Ah, didn't realise - perhaps I should say notice/bother to check  ;) there was more than one page.  But they ARE all in the .cdr file; 15 pages. I left the 'this page only' tick on when I exported rather than saved which is why they're in the cdr but not the others.

I've got to confess I don't use pages that often (indeed, at all!) so I'm not sure how to export multiple pages without them layering over each other.

Maybe you need to reinstall Corel.

I've exported it to pdf - the original appears to be 300 dpi so I've exported lossless to that. Does that help?

117
No problems opening it in X3

CDR, GIF and EPS conversions attached.

Sorry to have a bit of a dig, but having experience of Oracle based applications as an end user, I'm struggling to see how the words 'Oracle' and 'Coherence' can be used in the same sentence.

And the words 'Oracle' and 'simple' shouldn't even appear in the same domain.  ;)

119
Plus I was having a blonde moment and forgot you can right-click  :-[

120
How about popping up a tooltip with file properties when you hover an icon in the results list?

I open music files using FARR and it would be helpful to see bitrate and other information before playing a song.

121
Aren't you approaching this from the wrong perspective?

If you turn off the accessibility options how are users with disabilities going to be able to use the computers?

Shouldn't you be doing quick cards to put by the machines that guide users how to temporarily turn off the options while they're using software where the accessibility options clash?

And thinking longer term - you didn't really say what this software was but off the top of my head I'm struggling to see what the educational value is of a piece of software that requires users to press the same key many times in a row   - unless it's some psychometric test to see how quickly they get bored with repetitive pointless tasks  ;)

I don't know what country you're in, but from a legal point of view have you considered whether or not you're breaking disability discrimination laws by having software that apparently can't be used by students with disabilities?

Apologies for opening up a can of worms for you  :D

Grisoft have just confirmed it's a false positive. Amazing!

To be fair to them, it's not the only AV in the world that gives false positives, and they got back to me within 4 hours.

It obviously presents just as much threat as an autohotkey script

I've sent it off to them for testing - this is just a warning for you.

Interesting  :)  looks like FARR's ugly smartarse brother.  ;)

I'll try it out on my PC at work which is hideously ugly already so it'll blend in nicely  :D

General Software Discussion / Re: photo duplicate scanner
« on: January 14, 2008, 07:31 PM »
I use Duplicate File Finder by Rashid Hoda which has plenty of options and will find duplicates even if they have different names and/or are in different folders.

See screengrab attached.

Development seems to have ceased though, his website is down and has been for months, and it's tricky to find on the web.

I found a download link to version 1.1.0.2 - I use 1.1.0.3

It is/was freeware but I don't think it was open source - I wonder when it starts to count as abandonware?

I could post the installer but I'd probably be in breach of the license, even if it was freeware and the developer awol.
