Does anyone know of a freeware alternative to do that, preferably without having to re-encode.
No, I don't know of such an app. But maybe you would like to convert the files into another format, say AVI, where there would be a handful of free editors. You could try Super C (scroll almost all down), or maybe do it online at Media-Convert

7377
Hey katykaty. No, I did check the standard size as well. To the best of my guessing it has to do with people not keeping standards when writing the pages, but I don't know.

The quickest way is to change the print layout to landscape.
(for longer sides with a lot of pages.. i print to PDF ...and then i print this PDF to both sides of the papers)

Yeah, you may be right. Only, I find this solution disappointingly  low-tec'ed.

I couldn't even tell you if a page is well constructed or not

Nor can I, except maybe for the 'print all inside margens only' part...

...
It's no automatizer, but if you do it often this way, you will be quick too  :D

Danke schön, die Zeit zu brauchen, mir zu antworten.

No, "it's no automatizer", and my browsers, Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox 2, does have both Frontpage- and Word- 2003 integrated, so it is easy to save a page and then print it. It is easy, but not fast. I don't need options, in order to saving. What I do need for the printing feature in the browser, is speed and accuracy. More speed and more accuracy, please!

I have been sadly surprised many times by the difference in Preview and actual print.

But maybe you all never have to print such a page that won't stay inside the margens in the final print. Maybe I'm the only one?

...some program that will let you hit 'print' and have ALL the text printed inside the margens.

Do you know of any such quick 'print as printerfriendly page' automatizer?

... "print" on opera looks good. ... It does print all the images, though

I didn't check the print feature when I had Opera, but I is a fine browser, and of course I don't mind the pictures being printed; they are probably part of the story.

However, I'm not thinking about all the pages that are well constructed, but about the pages that seems not to be have written well; pages that don't give nice readable prints, no matter if you are using one or the other browser. I have been sadly surprised many times by the difference in Preview and actual print.

Some years ago I had no Internet connection, and spend a lot of time at the local library's public PC. Every time I came across something interesting I would hit Print, but very often the printed page would be missing the right margen with some text. A few sites have this 'view printerfriendly page' option, but only a few. I soon began to copy and paste the wanted text into Word, but it was and is a timeconsuming detour.

Now I am thinking that there must be some easier way to do this. They develop programs that can do almost anything, so maybe they also have developped some program that will let you hit 'print' and have ALL the text printed inside the margens.

Do you know of any such quick 'print as printerfriendly page' automatizer?

Living Room / Re: Poll : What is the most useless key on the keyboard
« on: February 14, 2007, 01:48 PM »
For me, the most useless (and also the most anoying) key in my keyboard is definitelly the 'insert' key. I always wondered why people invented that thing. I even removed it from my external keyboard, because i kept inadvertely pressing it, and overwriting stuff!
Insert ToggleKey by Mike Lin:
Insert ToggleKey itk_setup.exe (77kb self-extracting setup)

Ever accidentally turn on overtype, and as a result typed over half a sentence?
ITK sounds a tone whenever you press Insert.

Only now I can see the problem: I forgot to write that I want the various Opera toolbars to merge into one single bar, as I have it in IE and FF - and I can find no way to do that in Opera.

Finally I found it; the way. I must say it have taken me a couple of days to understand how to customize Opera, but now I will change my attitude and give praise to this powerful browser. I like both my Inernet Explorer 6 and Firefox 2, but Opera really is matching both of them 100% - and it is just as small as any, even smaller!

there is a real dilemna about creating subsections on the forum -
on one hand it adds real logical organization to the forum, but on the other hand it hides stuff away where people never wander in.

Time has proven you right...  General Software Discussion may be a better place to re-launch the section?

Too late Curt, game over :) I think I will make a Google Alert for your initial profile (more to come!). Just by using information provided by yourself ...
Reminded me of the time some years ago when I wrote the owner of some private site. The owner liked my words, and published both my e-mail and my e-mail address!

So now I am a spamfighter...

So Curt is 49 years old
...
Actually you should go "Whatever, come get me"- I hope you do.
Did you have to include my age...?  :-[
Just kidding  :P

This 'reveal' reminded me of the words by Jesus:
(Luke 12:3)

So then whatever you have said in the dark
will be heard in the light,
and what you have whispered in private rooms
will be proclaimed from the housetops.

I din't make myself very clear in the first post (either): I will never use ClipMarks for uploading - sharing or private. I just want a program to make smart clips to save on my PC.

I will have a look on the various apps mentioned. Thanks!

General Software Discussion / Clipboard a la Clipmarks?
« on: February 10, 2007, 01:08 PM »
I came across the add-on for Firefox and Internet Explorer, Clipmarks, and was fascinated: this clipping tool is smart! I have installed it, but not yet tried it, because of the "register before use"-demand. I fear that the service may be all about getting my e-mail address and tracking what's attaching my interest on the net..??

3: Selecting the piece(s) you want to clip
While in clip mode, when you move your mouse around the page you will see orange lines surround pieces of the page.

When the orange lines surround a piece of the page you want, click inside the lines to clip that piece. You'll see the area turn green and say "Clipped".

You can clip as many pieces of the page as you like. You can even clip from multiple pages and save it all in one clipmark (more on that here).

I'll think it can be done even smarter, but it already is smart. The problem, as I see it, is that this is all layed out to be some community sharing feature (so they can get many addresses and tracks..??). Maybe I can choose to save the clip on my PC, they give a hint that this is possible, but it certainly is not a feature they are promoting. But if I'm not into sharing my clips on some Internet community, why then would I register?

But I would very much like the features from Clipmarks to be on my PC - without the 'community' part... Could this be a new task for the authors at DC??

Did you try Clipmarks, and have a say about it??

Another more customizable browser perhaps? Personally I prefer Opera, but Firefox is an excellent alternative as well.

Or is there any particular reason why you use IE? Maybe one of the IE-"front ends" is better, such as Maxthon or AvantBrowser. (Note: I have no experience with either of these two, but they seem quite popular)

You can have a lot more add-ons for Internet Explorer than for any other browser. The reason so many have been deluded to think this isn't the case, may be that the extensions for Firefox / Opera / Maxthon are to be found at one place, making it look like there are so many. There are ten times as many extensions for IE - but they are to be found at thousands of different sites.

But of course IE is not as easy to customize.

7391
Conduit .. have share in EVERY Google result page!
Hmmm... sounds if they might be quite welthy...

I don't have a Google toolbar, and was of course thinking that any 'DC toolbar' should be made without using Conduit tecnic, if possible. Isn't my FoxyTunes toolbar such a thing? I don't know - never thought about it before.

General Software Discussion / DC Toolbar...
« on: February 10, 2007, 04:44 AM »
Where to find a safe customize-able toolbar with whistles, bells and the lot?

I have been heavily warned about my toolbar from Conduit. The case should be that though it is offering what I want, it also seems to be offering what I don't want: false results, adds and so on. I don't use it for searching, but why accept the threat? It does seem to be spying on me to some minor degree, because whenever I write in IE's search box, the words will display in Conduit's search box as well. But so far I have not bothered to see if it is transmitting my queries.

Do you know of a "safe customize-able toolbar with whistles, bells and the lot?"

Or could this even be a new (big) job for the authors at Donationcoder? A DC toolbar? What do you think of it, mouser: Do you have a need for a better and safer toolbar, or am I the only one?

1.png

7393
Takes you 1-2 minutes to sign up at Conduit - 5 minutes more and you are toolbar author. Ive considered making one for some family members but since I dont trust stability 100% Ive avoided. But fun to experiment.

I don't understand how you can tell all this about Conduit, and then say that it could be fun to use their program to author a toolbar. If you do so, all the bad stuff would follow, wouldn't it? They don't give a you toolbar for free without incorporating what it is all about to them ("Money overrules anything..."), do they? I can't imagine.

What goes for the ActiveX, well, I'm not too sure what to think of it, which is why I have so many security related programs to watch over me...

7394
If they got kicked out of Mozilla Add-ons I'll expect the toolbar will soon be outdated, so I'll have to remove it anyway.
That didn't make too much sense, did it. The case is that I have the Radio_Denmark toolbar in Firefox, Internet Explorer and Explorer, and for a minute confused which one I was talking about.

7395
They have nothing to do at Add-on site because they are not extensions. "Author" has no or only little relationship to installed code, can not offer suppport, is not responsible for privacy policy etc. A big mess but all comes down to where code comes from I think. So good move they got kicked out. Conduit already have a gallery of toolbars and every one gets own unique url/homepage for promotion purposes. Mozilla Add-on site just another display.

If they got kicked out of Mozilla Add-ons I'll expect the toolbar will soon be outdated, so I'll have to remove it anyway. I sure will think twice before having any  contact with Conduit again.

Thanks a lot for taking your time to answer me

7396
The bad side of Conduit is represented

Forgive me if I am taking too lightly on your warnings, please. The case is, I have never used the Radio_Denmark toolbar for anything but playing music - and that is music from pre-defined stations, Danmarks Radio. Why they bother to insert a search box, I don't know; I never have used it, and never will.

7397
How does one remove such a thing (a no-thing..) as a dead / blank shortcut from the toolbars in IE & Explorer??
- by installing ViewFolderSize Bar.

Problem solved  :) but I've no idea as to WHY   :-[

7398
Why dont you make a Donationcoder toolbar
Searchin DC for "toolbar" didn't give any results.
Please tell a little more!  :tellme:
