Polyglot 3000 claims to recognize over 400 languages,
Lextek Language Identifier will recognize 260 languages.

Polyglot was updated a week ago,
Lextek Language Identifier has not been updated since at least 2003, maybe long before that.

... Theoretically, the extension also works on Firefox 2, after messing a bit with the XPI file, but in my installation it makes Firefox go nuts! ...

I'll expect it to be your special setup, because it works without any problems at my PC with Firefox 2.0.0.2 - and without any "messing with the XPI file". Another thing is that the author could easily make this extension a lot more user-friendly. I mean: why do I have to learn to write a XML file in order to simply add more links? Not well figured out...

7303
First off, the program automatically puts itself in your autostart registry entries at hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\currentversion\run.  That is easily removed.
Isn't this a typo? There is no such address in hkey_local_machine\software.   :tellme:

Wasn't ResourceHacker, was it?

I knew it; you guys are rocking!

Yep; ResHack it was. Author Angus Johnson names two other of the kind, eXeScope and XN Resource Editor, did any try one of them? XN was updated December 2005 and may be more advanced than the two others, but none from this trio is being developed anymore. Do you know of any new of the kind?

7306
On my old PC I had a little program that I used to enter any programfile that would have an icon I didn't like. I would change the icon, and this app could put it back inside without destroying the program. I have no recall as to where I found this app, or what the name was, except "somethingHACK" or "HACKsomething" or "somethingHACKsomething" or was it HACKER instead of HACK"?? Of course you already have recognized the program, so please tell me the right name!

General Software Discussion / Re: Astyle: A Free Visual CSS Editor
« on: March 11, 2007, 06:13 PM »
I just tried this, and I have to say, its not the easiest thing to use. I wouldnt recommend it.

- no, me neither. These "A" people are not pegagogic teachers; even their screenshots only made me wonder what CSS is all about. But of course, if you already know how to write CSS it may be a different story.

..., Ken was in need of a System Information Tool that tells him about his installed memory a.s.o. He got "Everest" that does the trick, but is no longer freeware.

You can still have the old, free EVEREST - but no longer supported:

Your links to SIW doesn't work for me.

By now the hole DC world must know that I have upgraded from Win2K

But still the old Win2K is standing in the corner, laughing at me. Oh, how I am missing its content: 25 GB music, 2 GB pictures, 2 GB e-books, and some programs.  $$$$.

The main problem is that Explorer will crash, when I try to open Windows, leaving me to command prompt in DOS, or write a doctoral thesis in Chinese - the same thing to me.

There never was made any backup point on that machine, or maybe it doesn't work, because I tried to click Restore in F8 Safe Mode, but nothing changed.

If I make a Win2K partition on my new machine, can it then somehow "drive" the old machine? - so I might reach all this lost material? Is it posible to open Windows' Explorer on one PC, with another PC's Windows' Explorer ?? [Piuh; did any understand this!?]

- and so I did: Windows Installer 3.1.dk from http://www.microsoft...c&displaylang=en - re-started, installed a new program, and all seems to be back to normal. :-*

Thanks, dk70, for this most useful tip!

.., the Vista upgrade "hole" that allows you to clean install over ANY version of windows applies to XP as well.  So you can clean install XP Home (again), then upgrade to XP.  If you can find a download of the XP Pro installer, that would be even better using the key you have from your upgrade version.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, steeladept, but take a look below my avatar, and accept that this IT-illiterate (aliterate?) doesnt understand how to interpret your answer. Its a bit like seing a plan over a big house and wondering where to find the entrance... Please forgive my ignorance! Besides, I don't have any CD; was only thinking about buying it.

Curt, I guess when you start Firefox you can take the dog out for a walk before it's finished loading?  :P
It was like that when I ran Win2K 500 MHz and 320 RAM, but its not a problem to me now. But maybe thats because I have grown used to Firefox being a time consumer. IE loads a lot faster though it also has a lot of plug-ins.

... I have upgraded from Win2K to XP Home (OEM; no disc), ...: the Windows Installer is broken. ... was thinking that I could use the occasion to upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro.

But then the question is if such an installment also will fail, due to the "old" broken XP Home installer, or if the new XP Pro installer may / will 'take over' and install as normal?? What is your opinion on this??

Does any of you guys and dolls have some kind of an answer to this question, please?!

 :tellme:

Disclaimer: I'm not in any way affiliated with/related to WordWeb.

O'Kay; you're not affiliated with WordWeb, but to my understanding you are very much affiliated with Mobysaurus Thesaurus - which supports / integrates into WordWeb. In my Babylon I have Moby Thesaurus. Is this your doing as well? If not, as I expect: May the bigger Mobysaurus Thesaurus at some time offer support for Babylon?

7319
I always prefer a clean operating system install.

Thanks, mouser. I believe I understand your point to the letter, but I was thinking that if I bought this XP Pro upgrade disc, then maybe I could upgrade both the new XP Home and the old 2000 Pro at the same time, giving me an excellent backup media. The price for the complete XP Pro is still very high, so I was first considering the cheaper upgrading way.

7320
By now the hole DC world must know that I have upgraded from Win2K to XP Home (OEM; no disc), but the sad fact is that this have been such a disappointing to me. From the very beginning at February the 24'th there has been more errors than I had during the previous five years with Win2K - and that system was not too stable, I thought.

Now it has gone completely mad: the Windows Installer is broken. I can't even update! Of course I rushed to the store, but there was a reason I had it so cheap; they know next to nothing about IT - (but they will sell you a washing mascine or a blender) - and will only promise to send it to the head quarter's mechanics. They, on the other hand, may be clever on the subject, but I became nervous about the hole situation and was thinking that I could use the occasion to upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro.

But then the question is if such an installment also will fail, due to the "old" broken XP Home installer, or if the new XP Pro installer may / will 'take over' and install as normal?? What is your opinion on this??

7321
Get the freeware version here: http://wordweb.info/free

There's also an enhanced commercial version which sells for $29 but comes with some advanced features.

Nice to see WordWeb finally received the one-click feature I have been asking for. Now it is as fast as Babylon.

The 'standard' Pro version is priced o'kay, but you may spend your money:

General Software Discussion / Re: How to edit .xpi, and with what?
« on: March 08, 2007, 01:04 AM »
whats all abt .xpi ?

The answer is hidden within the first post:

It was fun to realize that I somehow had managed to change the Firefox extension "IE View Lite" into a "Edit in Frontpage" version. It made me high, and for a while I was thinking silly thoughts about my skills   :P

Now I'm back to the ground, I think. My version of "ViewMyCurrency" stopped working, and an update from the author's site just made it even worse, so I removed it and tried to install an old stable version from Mozilla. It is for 1.5 and below only,...

".xpi" is a fileformat for extensions for the Mozilla Firefox browser.
Sorry, for not making that clear from the beginning - so, Thanks for asking!

SPAMfighter has been a bit unstable the places I use it, though - tends to hang Outlook Express when closing it.

A former version from late 2006 was not too stable and I was disappointed they waited far too long to update it, but I have no problems with the new 5.15.
