General Software Discussion / Re: Volume Control recommendation

a convenient way to adjust/mute volume via the mouse.

An even more convenient way might be Volumouse:-*

DimaWare extmanage has at least one feature that OpenExpert is missing;
it supports special national characters as the Danish æ, ø and å:up:
(Open = Åbn, Search = Søg, Set = sæt)

7253
http://www.dimaware....nloads/extmanage.zip

It seems to be targeted at some special extension types:

dima.jpg

Anyway, I couldn't figure out how to use it, except for the pre-chosen types.  :-[
- but Thanks for telling!

[After-edit:]
- ohh; I must remove the upper checkmark each time, and set a new c heckmark at buttom...

I don't need to group mine. I don't even know if you can. (...) Then, in my Send To, I have all of my multi-format editors and viewers.

Then I'll hold on to the header: Looking for 'Open With...' Editor! The problem inside my head is that if I search the PC and find an image file that needs to be edited, then SendTo will not understand that this is an image file, but will offer all sorts of programs. OpenWith will understand the problem and only display those programs that are usable to this file. I have plenty of editors - I will not want all kinds of editors to be displayed at the same time. OpenWith can see to that, SendTo cannot - as far as I can understand.

Image editors only:

So I still prefer some kind of OpenWith_2.

Would have been more successful had I used Erunt with Autoback.exe as startup program.

I have ERUNT AutoBackup in Start. Now I need someone to hopefully repair the old Win 2000 station so I can use that one for external backups - I imagine.

7256
Also I would like you to add Skype.

I don't use "open with". I use "send to" and I maintain that by using Send To Toys.

:-[

What I am about to tell you now will demonstrate to the extreme that the words below my avatar are sadly true: I have SendTo Toys, and have not even once imagined that I could use it that way!  I can find no excuse for my ignorance and lack of creative imagination, except maybe that I only have had the app for a month or so and still haven't used it for anything else than to move files and folders.

I would imagine that you, tinjaw / TucknDar, have made some sort of groups inside SendTo Toys? You can't have all your programs in one column... How did you make it fast to use?

7258
It has moved down quite a few steps on my to-do list now

Ohh, I imagined you would contact mouser in order to co-operate on the project...  8)

Erunt can do backups http://www.larsheder...e.t-online.de/erunt/

Yes, Erunt can do backups, but have you ever tried to install a backup from Erunt?
- I am not sure how important these words from the readme might be:
Technical information:
ERUNT saves only registry files which are in use by the system. It obtains information about these files from registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\hivelist. Registry hives not listed there, for example those of other users of the computer, cannot be saved by ERUNT.)

If I were your wife you would not use 45 Euros on a Regsitry Editor  8)
...
Should be checked out before paying up.

My wife?! Ehh, yeah, right; we both are living in the "liberated" Denmark, I know,  :-[
I'm not too sure secular liberation is all that liberating...

- but I will check out your links. Thanks!  :)

I've used RegCmd (free) to edit my registry for years now. you'll find it here: http://aezay.dk/aezay/regcmd/index.html (Danish author ;) ) Very simple, but has bookmarks and the features I need.

General Information:

- Use this application as an alternative for the registry editor that comes with windows (REGEDIT.EXE).

- Registry Commander can do what all other registry editors can't such as cut/copy/paste, advanced search, change value type (string => binary), bookmark of keys and values, support of other types than just strings, dword and binary values.

- A thing I never understood is why no registration database editors showed the size of the value data, this is properly one of the things that made me create this application!

Features in Registry Commander v1.04:

- Registry Commander uses some standard shortcuts defined from back in the DOS days in applications such as Norton Commander.

- A column always displays the size of a values data.

- Supports all 12 data types in the registry, defined in the "winnt.h" header file. Most other registry editors only handles Strings, Binary, DWord & Expanded Strings sometimes even MultiString, that's only 5.

- Copy or Rename/Move entire keys and values from one key to another.

- A history list has been added to quickly jump from current key to a previously key.

- Cut or Copy keys and values from one key and paste them into another, using the clipboard.

- With the reg:// protocol, you can create links to a specific key in the registry, it works the same way as http:// does.

- Able to change a value's data type. E.g. you can change a string into a binary value without changing the contents of the data.

- Ability to interpret one value for another, without modifying the data. This would allow you to view a string saved as a binary value.

- Search part of or the entire registry database, not only can you search by a keyword, but you can also search by size or data type.

- Registry Commander allows you to bookmark keys or values so you can access them more quickly.
-Author of Registry Commander

Considering its an early version and hasn't been updated since Christmas 2003 - and is FREE - this seems to be a fine app!

This is what I use and I agree with the assessment below.
"41 Best Free Registry Editor
[1] http://www.resplendence.com/reglite  Freeware, All Windows versions, 2.0MB.

I am trying out both free apps - €45 for the Pro is just too much for me at the moment.
Thanks a lot for answering!

7263
When I lost the old Win 2000 I also lost many programs, including a Registry Viewer and a Registry Editor. Sadly I am the type who can never remember a name, at least not the names of these apps, so I am in the market for a free or cheap new app to handle the registry keys. Back then I had both a viewer and an editor, but maybe The Best FREE handles both jobs? - or the cheapest of the best $$ versions? (the new PC took whatever little money I had)

Tell me what you think may be The Best FREE Registry Viewer and Editor
- or The Cheapest of The Best $$ versions - Whats your favorite, and Why??

ContextMenu Commander / Re: ContextMenu Commander
« on: March 16, 2007, 12:31 PM »
The whole thing sounds simple enough, but I know its quite a b@#$h to code. Not because it's difficult, but all of the COM interop interfaces etc, bla bla... any ways I put this on my Things-I-Can-Do-When-I-Have-Run-Out-Of-Things-To-Do list, near the top, so some time in the future I might give it a go ;)

Could this "OpenWith_2" (link=topic=7763) be a part of the ContextMenu Commander?

7266
DonationCoder.com will soon announce a utility that I predict will become a favorite here..
a tool for easily creating custom right-click context menu items, in a way easier and more powerful than seen in any existing program.

it will also come with a bunch of context menu tools.

we welcome your suggestions for simple right-click context menu tools you'd like to see
(like move-to-specific folder, copy path to clipboard, etc.)

Ruffnekk:
Could this 'OpenWith_2' be such a mouser's ContextMenu Commander tool?

7267
if OpenWith_2 somehow could integrate with the Explorer OpenWith, rarther than replacing it?

The Mac users have it:

zingg.jpg

7268
I think one important feature in such a new OpenWith_2 would be the option NOT to replace Explorer's OpenWith, at least not until you are ready for it. BAxBEx's present version will replace Explorer's option at once, leaving you with no OpenWith options for as long as it will take you to edit. Furthermore BAxBEx's version doesn't offer any suggestions, as Explorer will, which I have found to be a major lack. So it might be best if OpenWith_2 somehow could integrate with the Explorer OpenWith, rarther than replacing it?

   Exciting news!

I might have grown very old before that will happen

I am turning fifty this year; could you move it upwards the list?    8)

7270
We're anxiously awaiting OpenCurt 0.1 ;)

I might have grown very old before that will happen
- take a look underneath my avatar, and read...

But the tutorials are to me like some adds; they show what you can't but might like to

7271
None are particularly developed or polished.

Sounds as if there is a market waiting...

7272
Try this one http://web.avanquest.../PowerDesk6_0307.htm
Yes, that was fine, and I bought it - because of the prize...  :-[

What is it with my browser; I can't follow a re-direction like your's, but I'll have to cut off the first part of the link? Instead of http://www.avanquest...amp;prefcurrency=USD it must be https://shop.avanque...amp;prefcurrency=USD

Maybe its some plugin I have forgotten  :tellme:

7274
I did look for such a product for a long time, but until I found OpenExpert I was never really happy with any alternatives.

I find it very strange if no-one after all these years didn't come up with an improved version. All you have to do is to add an extra option to group various extensions, say, add all picture file types into one group: add to this program, add all music file types into another group: add to that program, etc. It may be difficult to write, but it sure sounds easy when the major part of program itself already has been written.

7275
I tried a registered Powerdesk Pro 6, and it crashed my XP installation.

No help from support yet...

Ooops! Certainly not a good sign!
Since how long?
