26  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Processes and/or folders to exclude from malware scanners for Exchange email on: May 23, 2015, 03:52:52 AM
I hate being BRAND specific when complaining but there is is.
Hm, you are having issues with a specific product, so you can't ask a generic question, way too many possible solutions to even try to give a suggestion.

IMHO, products like MBAM should 'Just Work'. Like what you say.

You can give your opinion with your wallet: You either buy the product and use it 'as-is', or you uninstall it, and stop any payments (if/as soon as possible).
One good reason to stop using a product is when major failures don't get fixed. It probably isn't the right product for your situation.

But if Exchange 365 has its own anti-malware solution, why are you adding a local scan to your toolchain? A proper AV solution (free or paid, see the recent related discussions on this forum) should be able to block anything undesired?

@questorfla:
Things I can't find in your messages:
- What 'malware scanner' product are you using? (aha! Malwarebytes, it's hidden in the sub-context of the second story/message) and why this product?
- Is that scanner running locally? (I seem to deduce it does)

Yeah, that would be Office 365, in the web/cloud/on-line edition.

Check out this NANY 2014 release: Text Inspection & Manipulation Utility http://www.donationcoder....m/index.php?topic=36544.0
It has a Scramble feature...
32  Other Software / Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: WinSendkeys: Latest version thread. Version 3.2.1, released 2011-10-01 on: May 17, 2015, 10:11:22 AM
WinSendKeys is not a hotkey program in itself, it's a command-line program to send a sequence of 1 or more keystrokes to another application.

It's main use-case (for me) is another of my tools, WinButtons, that provides on-screen buttons, optionally 'placed' on a touch-screen, to control applications that have a bunch of features kinda hidden behind (user-defined or not) hotkeys, that would be more easily controlled with a separate window of buttons, that can also hold text and/or an image stating it's function.
You can also create shortcuts anywhere (desktop, quick launch bar?) that sends a sequence of keys to an application, and optionally starts the application for you, if it's not already running. You can even assign a system-wide hotkey to that action thumbs up

Yes, documentation is rather technical, but there have been very few requests lately about this tool, so I've assumed everybody is happy... embarassed
33  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Portable FARR - File Altered? Problem with Cert? on: May 15, 2015, 01:04:24 PM
The file is not altered, but it's signed with a code-signing certificate that uses SHA1 hashing algorithm that is deprecated by (a.o.) Microsoft and Google.
Microsoft wrote down their policy this way: http://blogs.technet.com/...1-deprecation-policy.aspx
Google has been publishing their intent in this article: http://googleonlinesecuri...lly-sunsetting-sha-1.html

On the InstallSite blog an article in this direction is also written:
Quote
...
It only seems to affect setups that are being digitally signed.

The problem is caused by Windows Update KB3004394 which updates the way Windows checks for revoked root certificates.
...
Full article: http://blogs.msmvps.com/i...hield-command-line-build/
Newer versions of InstallShield just fail to digitally sign the executable, but the Portable build and Inno Setup installer that are used for SC signing doesn't seem to fail, but it's your OS that fails to accept the Certificate chain-in the file.

I guess mouser needs to update his code-signing certificates to SHA2 (aka sha256) versions (my employer also has to, but we're already due for this update in a couple of months).

I have to dble-click the shortcut and NOT drop the image on the shortcut ! (what I did before) Waooo !
I didn't see that one coming ohmy you never talked about drag&drop of an image file in this thread...
37  DonationCoder.com Software / Finished Programs / Re: Frameless.exe: program usage syntax on: May 10, 2015, 07:18:14 AM
Assuming you are using the latest version, we'll have to await Skwire's response as he has the sourcecode. So far I can't see you've done anything wrong in that command-line.

Possible external causes:
- The png file could be malformed or in-use by another program (preview?)
- Your AV is interfering with frameless
- There could be a permission issue with either the exe or the png file

There are Linux win32 utilities that have bash shell with ls and rm commands.
Cygwin ?

What have you tried so far, that didn't work? (examples please)
41  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Nemo - it's like Outlook Calendar for files on: May 06, 2015, 06:23:31 AM
Nice tool, but somewhere along the road it lost its Linux-ability ohmy That seemed like a nice-to-have feature, but _I_ won't be using it that way, anyways.
42  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: moving data from desktop to laptop on: May 06, 2015, 03:22:18 AM
I do not see that there is anything preventing the user from removing the hard drive from the old PC, connecting said drive to a suitable drive carrier, and plugging the latter as a peripheral device, into (say) a USB port on the laptop.
Lacking technical skills perhaps? Or maybe bravery Grin
43  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Help with Windows batch script on: May 06, 2015, 03:18:13 AM
You might want to create a %server%-validusers.txt file, by making these subtle changes:

Formatted for Generic Code with the GeSHI Syntax Highlighter [copy or print]
  1. ...
  2. SET userlist=validusers.txt
  3. ...
and
Formatted for Generic Code with the GeSHI Syntax Highlighter [copy or print]
  1. ...
  2. :Logoff
  3. findstr /I ^%1$ .\%5-%userlist% >NUL
  4. ...

and having 3 files APPLE-validusers.txt, BANANA-validusers.txt and CHERRY-validusers.txt in the current directory.

You could make it even more fancy by adding a check for common users in validusers.txt, but that seems like a little overkill to me.

First you should make more clear what you want to achieve, as it's totally unclear to me huh
45  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: sharepoint question on: May 04, 2015, 07:08:34 AM
What's wrong with a Wiki page in Sharepoint? You can create a list of links there, easy as pie.
You do need Create and Modify permissions of course.

What type of internet connection would have this usage-model? Most current internet connections are always-on, AFAIK, so no need, or even means, to turn it 'off'.

Despite its name, my tool Excel2Html can be used for this exercise, if the .csv file is converted (loaded) into a .xls or .xlsx file.
And a .html template is plain text, of course.

Relevant DC threads (original Coding snack request and support-thread) are available from the link.

50  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Ethernet cables: UTP vs. STP on: April 27, 2015, 02:43:15 PM
It's to do with the Category of the cable.
CAT 5 is qualified for 100 MBit/s
CAT 5e for 1 GBit/s
CAT 6 for up to 10 GBit/s and requires better signal to noise ratios (10 GBit/s not over the full 100 meters)
CAT 7 for up to 40 GBit/s with even better signal to noise ratios and less crosstalk, using shielded pairs within the cable

More info here: http://www.xmultiple.com/xwebsite-forum24.htm
And Wikipedia on CAT 5/5e: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_5_cable
