And of course Ath, not only numerically, makes my contributions fade into the background
NP  smiley you've made a lot more than 'just a few' posts, and quite useful, that's both admirable and very welcome Thmbsup
227  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: 3D Printers - Dirty Secret on: July 28, 2013, 12:33:10 PM
Unfortunately, the referenced article in the first post of this thread, doesn't mention the relativity of this 'polution' caused by 3D printers: it's comparable to grilling meat on a charcoal barbeque or smoking a cigarette, as mentioned here and in other articles.
Let us not get too worried.

As my father in law, who died over 15 years ago, used to say "the more accurate measurements they can make, the more bad stuff they are able to find, but still there are people dying of old age instead of all those 'bad disseases'".
Guess he had a point there huh
228  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Build your own 3-D printer! on: July 22, 2013, 04:59:33 AM
Wonder how log it will take prices to drop to inkjet proportions?

Crossing my fingers for that one. I'd love to get one.
Yeah, would really like to get one too, the sky is the limit once you own one Cool. And price is a relative factor, ofc, dot-matrix printers where in this priceregion when they where originally introduced, AFAIR?
229  Other Software / Developer's Corner / Re: Is it appropriate to post a prospective page for opinions? on: July 21, 2013, 01:30:28 PM
My rule of thumb is that if there's no price on it, I can't afford it. Then I move on

232  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: The problem with text compare tools - similar, in database compare tools on: July 14, 2013, 01:25:42 PM
Can you post examples of files that have some moved blocks, so we can do some tests ourselves?
233  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: The problem with text compare tools - similar, in database compare tools on: July 14, 2013, 05:57:04 AM
For text comparison I always use the shareware Compare It! by Grigsoft
Development has stalled the last couple of years, but for me it's a highly valued tool, and I would buy it again if I had to.

There is an option 'Find moved sections' in the 'Options/Options/Comparison/Advanced' options page that needs to be enabled for finding moved stuff like you described. And setting 'Use adaptive comparison' on the same page could also help.
I usually advise to enable 'Options/Lines view' from the menu (it's disabled by default), and the same for 'Options/Options/Editor' checkbox "Scroll left pane horizontally with mouse wheel".

Disclaimer:
I wrote a translation for my native language for it (and also for Synchronize It!), but have no other bonds with the product(s) or company.

236  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Similar program to automation anywhere on: July 13, 2013, 09:51:57 AM
Could it be this rather expensive Automation Anywhere?
Yes, we can find that, sure, but dropping a question, without any documentation whatsoever, and at the rate the OP is dropping them, makes me wonder about his google-abilities Sad
237  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Similar program to automation anywhere on: July 13, 2013, 06:18:35 AM
What 'automation anywhere' are you talking about?

If I was writing for a living, I'd probably need the focus redirection that some of these writing tools like OmmWriter offer, but for occasional writing I'd like something less 'demanding'. tellme

240  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: How to activate hyperlinks, in ScreenCaptor v4.3 ? on: July 06, 2013, 09:02:54 AM
Static image files like .jpg, .bmp and .png do not have support for embedding links in the picture, you'll need to wrap the image in another format, like an Office file (.doc/.docx/.odt) or a web-page, to have features like that.
241  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: SSC doesn't capture scrolling in Chrome on: July 06, 2013, 06:42:13 AM
I tried with Chrome 27.0.1453.116 m
Did an auto-detect scroll mode, then it came up with "Vertical scrolling" "Scroll by: By single row", and the net result was it couldn't guess the margins and overlap after scroll-capturing the Chrome window.
Went back and changed the "Scroll by:" to "By pages (Default)", and SSC then did a nice capture, and 'guessed' the margins and overlap correctly (using the available buttons for that ofc). thumbs up

Edit:
I missed that you tried it on that specific page embarassed
Tried it with a totally different page, seems that site is doing something to the scroll and keyboard-handling of Chrome Sad
In Firefox it's even worse Angry

Edit2:
It's absolutely to do with the static background image and the overlayed content that is confusing SSC, No idea how to solve that, other than using a manual capture (tip: set 'Scroll by:' to 'By Pages (Default)') and the number of pages to 4 or 5 depending on screen-size and resolution.

243  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Samsung Galaxy Android Camera EK-GC110 Anyone have real-world experience of it? on: June 29, 2013, 06:41:33 AM
what worries me most is the trouble I have trying to read smart-phone displays out of doors. This is especially true on sunny days,
Then you'll have to leave the rural areas and go into the modern world, find a shop that actually has one and test the guinea pig in the sun. You'd better pick a nice/bright day for this expedition ofc Cool
244  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Help me choose my next smartphone on: June 25, 2013, 11:59:15 AM
No i don't care about tasks.  What made the iphone integration perfect?  Could you explain the differences between iphone and android?
Comparing iPhone to early Android's (pre-4.0) then iPhone Just Works. Now, modern Android's also Just Work.

if that's the case, I'll be very happy with the HTC One.  Now...should I switch windows phone for blackberry?
Not a chance, BB is just making Android's with a twist, trying to keep their head above the water.
245  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Help me choose my next smartphone on: June 25, 2013, 10:17:12 AM
If you're not relying on Outlook Tasks to be synced, then by all means get a phone with Android 4.1 or newer on it, my appointments and e-mail sync just fine with our Exchange (2007/2010) server.
Android's standard e-mail app doesn't sync Tasks (AFAIK), but commercial offerings seem to do, but I don't want to pay for that smiley

BTW: I'm on a Sony Xperia S, with Andoid 4.1.2, and am very happy with it, except for the battery life that's 'sub-optimal', but not really bad.
Also have an iPhone 4, that has excellent battery-life and perfect Exchange integration (don't know about the Tasks thing though, I don't use it  huh), but that one is supplied by my employer; I had an Android phone before I got the iPhone, and want to keep both (though I actually prefer Android).

The on-line version currently still has the pseudonym, I guess Wink
