General Software Discussion / Re: Looking for a AutoSave program

Thanks rjbull.

But 'Helmet' doesn't have the option to specify save time interval to less than a minute.

Nice..just tested in Irfanview and works fine.

Not sure what you are asking here w.r.t the first question.

You might want to try http://www.google.com/history/

It records the searches you did in Google so you can go back and see what searched for in the day, in the past few days etc.

For your 2nd question, try http://www.oxymoroni.../web/firefox/Thinger

I am only trying to automate pressing of Ctrl+S.

If I have made a mistake and the script sent Ctrl+S keystroke, the project gets saved with the wrong text and that's fine with me. Because I know that the script will save the corrected version after the next execution (within the next 20 seconds during which time I would have corrected the text)

I am using the following AutoHotKey script for the time being. It does interfere with what I am currently doing inside Flex Builder, but that's fine till some elegant solution is found.

#Persistent

SetTimer, AutoSave, 20000  ; Run AutoSave subroutine every 20 seconds.

AutoSave:
IfWinActive ahk_class SWT_Window0
    Send, {Control Down}s{Control Up}
return

I do have Flex Builder open and as the active application. But am not sure why the macro isn't working.

I found http://www.autohotke...p;highlight=autosave which seems to do this..am trying to understand and modify it to suit for FlexBuilder.

General Software Discussion / Looking for a AutoSave program
« on: September 24, 2009, 06:37 AM »
I need a program that will send Ctrl+S to designated list of running applications every user specified time interval.

I tried running http://www.atopsoft....m/products/autosave/ and have it like so:

AutoSave.png

But it doesn't do anything at all.

Any other recommendations? AutoHotKey script is welcome.

I tried unsuccessfully to write a macro in MacroExpress:

I haven't checked all the posts in this thread...I use Replace Text (formerly known as BK ReplaceEm) a lot.

At its core, Replace Text is essentially a text search-and-replace program. However, unlike the search-replace functionality of a standard text editor, Replace Text is designed to operate on multiple files at once. And you need not only perform one search-replace operation per file; you can setup a list of operations to perform. If different groups of files need to have different operations performed on them, this is no problem either. You can also specify a backup file for each file processed, just in case the replace operation didn't do exactly what you wanted.

General Software Discussion / Re: Need help in installing RSSOwl
« on: September 23, 2009, 11:44 PM »
So far I am liking RSSOwl compared to FeedDemon. It is small, feels light-weight and works nicely.

My observations/notes on RSSOwl:

- Customizable keyboard shortcuts is a good feature.

(To add a) New Feed: Default is Ctrl+D with scope set to "In Windows"
I changed it to Ctrl+N and 'In RSSOwl'

'Mark All Read' seems confusing at first. It means mark all the current feed items as read and NOT all feeds as read. The default is Ctrl+Shift+C and 'In Windows'. I changed it to Ctrl+R and 'In RSSOwl'.

To update current feed: Ctrl+U

To update all feeds Ctrl+Shift+U.

To assign label (i.e., tagging) to a feed item: Ctrl+L

- By default each feed opens in a new tab. This makes no sense. To disable this, View -> Layout -> (deselect) Tabbed Browsing.

- By default 'Show All News' is set. I find it better to change it to 'Unread News'. This is a one time setting change and thankfully applies to all the feeds.

- By default feeds don't update when the program is started. Not good. Go to Prefs, Feeds -> (tick) Automatically update feeds on start-up.

- One nice feature is to be able to select the feeds to be notified of.

@Shades: I did modify the PATH variable to reflect the path to latest version's bin folder before using JavaRa.

perhaps to save the precious 1 minute that windows takes to display all the programs in Add/Remove applet?

No response from Jeff of DF.

As I said earlier, I am using AutoHotKey to bring up DF menu inside DO's lister on double clicking

This is how:

1. 1.png

2. 2.png

3. 3.png

To jump to a folder launched from DF menu in a new tab in DO, Control key can be held down while clicking.

Thanks 40hz.

JavaRa removed the old version, j2re1.4.2_13 & its related files and RSSOwl installer worked fine.

I downloaded the latest RSSOwl RSS reader from http://www.rssowl.org/node/251

Upon clicking RSSOwl.exe to install it, get the following:

I do have the latest Java installed.

Any idea how to fix this?

This is exactly what I needed few days back.

Adobe Bridge (comes w/ Photoshop) is the program that can do this. Browse to the folder that has the images, sort them and go to Tools -> Batch Rename...

I asked for free alternatives in IRC channel and got no replies.

Tried. Nothing happens.

Hmmmmm...We're missing a few days' worth of screencasts here.  I cleared my cache and refreshed twice, and I still only see day 17.

These are screencasts in this month. Last month's are mentioned in another thread.

Check out the 1st post in this thread:

You can see the first 30 days of DC Screencasts, from August 2009, here:

This thread begins the second month of screencasts!

BrowserTraySwitch / Need help switching browsers using FARR
« on: September 22, 2009, 10:50 AM »
I can switch default browsers by right clicking system tray icons just fine.

I want to do the same by using FARR. So I set up the following aliases

Browser Tray Switch - Firefox | C:\Program Files\BrowserTraySwitch\BrowserTraySwitch.exe -switch C:\Program Files\BrowserTraySwitch\BrowserFiles\Firefox.btsregfile
Browser Tray Switch - Maxthon | C:\Program Files\BrowserTraySwitch\BrowserTraySwitch.exe -switch C:\Program Files\BrowserTraySwitch\BrowserFiles\Maxthon.btsregfile

Nothing happens when I use the above. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

I just tested this and it works fine. Are you using the latest version?

Just mailed Jeff (the author of DF) the following:

Hi Jeff,

I use Directory Opus as my file explorer in windows explorer replacement mode.

I am able to mouse button middle click in empty space of a lister to bring up Direct Folder's menu but not when I double click.

Is it possible to add this feature?

Thanks,
Sridhar.

149
A correction to my above post: Clicking on a folder in Direct Folder's menu doesn't switch to it in Directory Opus in a new tab. The existing tab gets used.

The support for Directory Opus that's quoted in the above post is specifically this: When mouse middle button is double clicked in empty space of a lister, Direct Folder's menu appears.

Double clicking in empty space of the lister DOES NOT bring up this menu. However, this can be achieved using AutoHotKey.

150
Does anybody know how to get it to use the default file manager? I have Directory Opus and I use that for everything. But, if I select a folder from the tray icon, Direct Folders will always open in Explorer.

I have set Directory Opus to replace windows explorer. When I select any folder from Direct Folders, I jump to it in a new tab in Directory Opus. So it does work.

Additionally I have also set such that double clicking in empty area of a lister brings up Direct Folders menu.
