thesteve: your script works fine! thumbs up

but being on the look-out for a gui tool, i was wondering is it possible to:
• have a tiny window that supports drag-n-drop.
• set the output (shortcuts) to be created in the current folder, i.e. the folder that the text file resides.
• have an exe file of this script for computers that don't have Windows Script.

also to Ruffnekk: tks for the info. will keep that in mind, in case i run into errors..

it's in plain-text file, something like a "dir /b" output.. additionally if i can specify shortcut name, then it's fine..
this is how the list looks like:
5558  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Universal Extractor on: November 22, 2006, 08:36:53 PM
this tool claims to "extract files from any type of archive, whether it's a simple zip file, an installation program, or even a Windows Installer (.msi) package." i think, it will come in handy if anyone wants to just extract files from the installers

btw, happens to be written in AutoIt and acts a front-end for a lot of other cmd-line programs. more info at the website and its forum:

spotted this on the net: WinCalendarTime.
not as feature-packed as TClock and its ilk but this is a tool that can be appreciated for its simplicity.

ah, drag+drop robot.. good idea, mouser. thumbs up i all but forgot about it.. i think ddr needs more promotion, eh? anyway, i'll be needing a cmd-line *.lnk file maker first.
5562  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Windows 98SE Copy/move replacement/enhancement w/ auto rename on: November 20, 2006, 10:18:26 PM
The problem is that Supercopier deletes the normal registry entries then re-creates them into it's own key. When you uninstall Supercopier, it deletes all of the Supercopier keys from the registry, hence the commands are gone.

hi there polski8,

your observation is very interesting. may i know what registry keys are replaced? and also, can you give some more info on restoring them with the program that you mentioned..
5563  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Create shortcuts from a list on: November 20, 2006, 10:08:37 PM
sometimes i need to create quickly shortcuts but the right-click/drag-drop is a bit slow at times. i have a list which i would like a program to go through and create individual shortcuts for each item in the list.

so, i am wondering if there is a program that could create shortcuts (*.lnk) from a text list containing file and/or folder.. can anyone help me out?

• add an alternate "teleport" folder.

this is a standard feature on most file managers & explorer replacements, maybe you want to try one, such as the often-praised - Total Commander..

here is one such thread in DC: 12 Windows Explorer Alternatives Compared.

5572  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / Re: Refresh takes a long time on: November 15, 2006, 08:11:59 PM
if you disable your main toolbar and create just one toolbar with like one button, does it still take so long to load?
nope, with one item, it's super fast.. Wink

anyway, i disabled every folder nodes, then tried again.. this time, the very 1st time is quite slow but subsequently the response time picks up..
5573  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / Re: Refresh takes a long time on: November 15, 2006, 06:58:20 PM
mouser, i'd like to post my reply here, if u don't mind..

Quote
1) check whether the long delay goes away if you configure the preferences and return to docking bar 2 times in a row.
2) try disabling some of your items, especially those that might refer to FOLDER contents menu, and see if that speeds up displaying the contents.
3) how long does it take to save the file if you just save it from within the preferences.

q1: if i open & close the preferences twice in a row, the response time slightly improves..
q2: i've disabled most of the folder nodes, except for some with very few shortcuts..
q3: it's instantaneous, no lag at all..
