since tchikien is busy with the program, i'll put a small explanation. i think, the program's quite intuitive.
1st you have to specify the output folder (Fig. 1).

Fig. 1
[attach=#]

then leave the program running. when you drop a file onto your desktop, a message will appear (Fig. 2) prompting if you want to save a note as well. click 'don't save note' to continue without saving a note.

btw, the prompt to write a note can also be disabled. (Fig. 3)

there's a tip at www.annoyances.org, why don't you try that?

Quote from: excerpts
Problem:
Running XP SP2 or higher, you try to run an executable located on another machine
on your network. Your accosted with a prompt: "The publisher could not be verified".
You are forced to confirm that you wish to run this program... every time you run
it.

Solution:
Run gpedit.msc

Go to User Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Windows Components >> Attachment
Manager

Add "*.exe" to the "Inclusion list for moderate risk file types" setting.

"This policy setting allows you to configure the list of moderate risk file types.
If the attachment is in the list of moderate risk file types and is from the restricted
or Internet zone, Windows prompts the user before accessing the file. ..."

thanks tinjaw.. smiley
i'll pm my email address. you can also reach me at yahoo's im plus dc's irc channel..

as the 1st question, i'd prefer to run on my PC but it's ok if you want to make it web-enabled. in that way, the output can be posted on a website.

that sounds great, Carol.. i was thinking LinkSys but your NetGear pitch has made me keen to try them also. any pointers to start with, such as model nos. or website that specialises on NetGear configurations?

i think this kind of list will come in handy if you're in a hurry & need to identify a tool to do a particular task..
because most probably there's only one tool available. in any case, the list does contain alternatives for selected categories..

also, check out its sister site: Open Source Freeware : 400+ free applications and utilities.

5488  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Wanted Photo Slideshow on DVD (1000s of photos) on: November 27, 2006, 08:54:14 PM
i think that's what these type of programs do, they convert JPGs into still MPGs then make movie out of it..

i'm using Nero Vision Express and in NVE's help file, there is a mention of a technical restrictions. perhaps this restriction applies to other photo vcd/dvd slideshow makers & cause you to run out of space?

F.Y.I. You only can add a maximum of 99 pictures to a slide show due to technical restrictions!

5492  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Does anyone know a good scheduling program? on: November 26, 2006, 07:18:36 PM
Yeah, I need a program that can run on windows 98, to schedule my staff. It has to be flexible enough to schedule split shifts and keep track of individual hours.

Dell[a], i had made a similar request here but unfortunately there were no takers.. Sad
do let me know if you find something..

In the process I got a little carried away and ended up throwing in support for every kind of archive format I possibly could find.

btw, i just realized, one of the tools used (PEiD) is partly developed by Jibz.

P.S. i'm liking this tool more & more.. thumbs up
5494  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: I'd like to express thanks to the DonationCoder.com community today on: November 23, 2006, 08:05:40 PM
i am "thankfull" too, mouser that i found this site.. smiley

i am glad that you are able to concentrate on your 1st love - writing programs, rather selling out to the corporate world right after school. that's something i can associate with, doing what we enjoy but unfortunately when i finished school, it was a different time with few opportunities (read:dial-ups, yuck!) and slowly, other responsibilities creeped in.

anyway, i am truly happy for you & would like to wish you all the best! Thmbsup
5495  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Create shortcuts from a list on: November 23, 2006, 07:56:57 PM
thesteve: your script works fine! thumbs up

but being on the look-out for a gui tool, i was wondering is it possible to:
• have a tiny window that supports drag-n-drop.
• set the output (shortcuts) to be created in the current folder, i.e. the folder that the text file resides.
• have an exe file of this script for computers that don't have Windows Script.

also to Ruffnekk: tks for the info. will keep that in mind, in case i run into errors..
