Are there any xplorer2 users who've tried (or even switched) to DOpus? I love xplorer2 because its design philosophy seems to be built to cater to power users - there are many hidden powerful functions (the help file is daunting) but lots of little nice touches that don't have a wow factor but soon become indispensable. And its fast. I bought an xplorer2 license in 2004. I liked the program very much, but every now and then it would lose all of my custom configuration settings. A few other users reported the same thing. Support gave me the impression that my problem wasn't too high on the priority list, so I moved to Directory Opus. That was a long time ago, and I'm sure that xplorer2 is much-improved. I'll stick with Directory Opus, which is a major pain to configure initially, but a joy to use.

I've been happy with version 9 for several years. My only real complaint is the difficulty I have in figuring out how to access and change various settings (there are a LOT of settings).
I prefer XP to Windows 7. Don't need no stinking libraries.
Given that, is there a compelling reason for me to shell out fifty-four bucks?

@mrainy - is there any particular reason for the confrintational tone of your comment? Actually, my original question (your degree is in .... ?) is just an expression that I've heard off and on throughout my adult life. It was intended as a gentle "how do you know that?" sort of question. Should have used a smiley. Beyond that, I guess I'm just burned out by non-stop economic "plans" coming from talking heads on the Internet and TV. Put a hundred economists in a room, get a hundred different opinions, many of them motivated more by politics than by reason. No offense intended.

I'm no gunslinger, but given the opportunity I'd have pulled that specific trigger. As far as I'm concerned, Osama confessed with his video exultations and calls for future mass killings. Formal trial not necessary.

As for the unraveling argument, I think there's a little bit of an irrational fear there. People who prefer under look at the over orientation and think "Man, that looks unstable! It's going to unravel! Oh no!!" But it's really not anywhere near that bad. I just think, practically speaking, over wins every time. I have cats. Over loses sometimes.

MiniBASIC was written by the man who developed my favorite programming tool, Emergence BASIC. What that means is that the program will be very reliable, the developer not so much.
