the future of the web is tracking.. no doubt about it. google is just getting or leading with the trends.. if you don't like it don't use google. that's all.

Not sure where you've been for the last 10 years, but for most people the desktop is not their primary computer. That ship has sailed. Their phone, tablet or other device is what is increasingly what they turn on first. MS currently has almost no share of that market, but are gunning for it. The desktop PC is that boring thing they create spreadsheets on at work and couldn't care less if it disappeared tomorrow.

" The desktop PC is that boring thing they create spreadsheets on at work and couldn't care less if it disappeared tomorrow."

Clearly you miss typed "They", when you should have used "I", which would then justify your/their opinion and understanding of the subject.

Sure, tablets and smart phones maybe the future, but hell no, desktops haven't sailed away and won't be for a very loooooong time.

Why don't ya just make an autohotkey script to mimic/toggle the right-click on desktop > [untick] show *, and also autohide the taskbar, etc. You could even make it accept params and all for uses in other scripts/shortcuts.

Finished Programs / Re: SOLVED: desktop icon manager/grouping
« on: August 12, 2011, 11:38 AM »
Sorry to bump this old thread, but I was just searching the forums and came across this app, StarDock Fences (via this thread: Re: IDEA (Concept Follow through): Small program that Show/Hides Desktop Stuff +), which is exactly what I was looking for back in '07 ;D:

Quick History
"Fences", originally "Desktop Icon Organizer", was started in 1999 as a tool to help standardize desktops across PCs, back in the author's high school "web-editors club" computer lab. (Screenshots from / download the 2003 prototype edition) It wasn't until 2007 when the idea was first publically announced and brought for discussion around the web. About a year later the program finally got its chance at a Vista-compatible remake, and in 2008 Stardock proudly announced its new product, "Stardock Fences"!

Living Room / Re: PHP... is the name self-realizing?
« on: August 03, 2011, 01:23 PM »
PHP is solid, just depends on your coding practices. There are lot's of web dev frameworks for PHP such as Zend, CakePHP, CodeIgniter, and a good templating system called Smarty which many popular opensource web apps use.

Ruby has Rails for web development (Ruby on Rails)
Python has Django
Perl has .. not sure, never checked!

Speaking of recursive acronyms: Linux is not unix :)

Living Room / Re: 64 Bit OS - When to Switch ?
« on: August 02, 2011, 06:22 AM »
I'd hit it. ;D I am now.

edit: Switch to 64bit already. Stop living in the past! lol. Use 64bit if you want more than 3-4gb of memory. I've got a laptop with 4gb of ram, about to add another 2gb for now so that's around 5-6gb of RAM!! Superman stuff. Now I can multitask with huge mofo apps like I have never before because of 64bit.

Androids for geeks. iPhone for newbies. Kinda like Linux for geeks, Windows for.. point and clickers.

edit: Didn't read the OP link or anythin; Just sayin'.  ;D

Yeah, AceText is pretty nice, but I'm a little dissapointed in the lack of updates or upgrades to it, in the last 3 years atleast. I requested some functions to the author but I just got canned responses (:)) that he would consider my requests in future versions of AceText, lol.

I requested some small things like text modifiers (conver to rot13, hex, binary, etc.), also a way to set a tabs color, as well as a few more really small things.

CHS is damn great though, kudos to mouser for another wicked free donationcoder software product.

First of all, if you are actually waiting there.. for 30 secs.. you're fault. Most of the time when I download from rs/mf/other download sites you get a timer.. who the hell is gonna sit there and watch the screen? Infact, I think we should be a little greatful for any software that doesn't expire the time limit so you have to rewait! lol.

Sure, the timer is an annoyance, but for the price of the software and its use to you far outweighs the "wait".

64
How you getting on with AceText superboyac?

65
Nice tool skwire.  ;D

Thanks rjbull for the heads-up.

List Price: $139.95 - wow insane.

Living Room / Re: The "Cloud" Goes Up in Smoke
« on: April 07, 2011, 07:56 AM »
If it's digital, and important to you, it pays to keep multiple copies in different locations/baskets.. (local, remote/cloud, bank vault, relatives home, etc.) DO NOT STORE ALL YOUR DATA ON "THE CLOUD" without copies of it elsewhere. And then the prob of syncing comes up.. just F the syncing BS and make sure you have copies.. no need to sync and keep up2date every day.. every 2 months is far better.   Better to be SAFE than SORRY. Dui ba.

Subject should have read "Cloud goes down in tears" or rain or something  ;D

That's why you might want to go with only the AV product instead of the IS... I actually remember experiencing networking problems about 6 years back with Panda IS.. maybe we did something wrong? Who knows.. I just recommend the AV anyway. Thanks for the Heads-Up Stoic Joker
