Site/Forum Features / Re: Dc Member Blog Idea - Feedback Requested
« on: March 04, 2009, 04:58 AM »
Nah, dont merge it with the main blog, would be better as a seperate blog where certain DC members/coders have a posting account where they can post about any thing they want such as their personal project updates, small tutorials, tips for apps, etc. and then all the posts from the members would be aggregated together making the blog index and content. Since there would be a few coders/writers, things could range from regex, mod_rewrite, to svn, web dev, seo, software dev,  etc. ect. in relatively small time..

Great minds think alike ;) So if some one ends up on this new blog (after seeking what ever they wanted), good chance they'll check out a few other posts and eventually find theretheir way to the main DC site.. any ways, isn't it just blog just for members, so it doesn't matter if it directly relates to the "best of blog" or the main DC site, it's just a small home where those members can post if they want to right? :)

Living Room / Re: Should I switch from Dreamhost?
« on: February 22, 2009, 04:05 PM »
I'd stay with them. Over the years I've always heard of the incredible features/space/etc. they give you for really good prices, etc. But yeah, different experiences in different circles. Never seen any bad comments/feedback on dreamhost.. well I haven't researched.. :P

104
Sorry app, I didn't realize the original post was so old! Good research/findings on the poster, this is not a place to be advertising things! :P

105
Wow that's pretty nice! Would be good for people new to programming and wanting to get into dev fast with downloading any compilers, or software.. etc. Still, nothing close to having your own setup/evn for coding or learning to code :>

Run Firefox with no more than 3 extensions/addons and your ok!  8)

Yeah, the server has been getting slammed by registrations since the link has been up.. lol.. keep trying.. you'll get the registration email soon or later..

Personally, I would have preferred version 9 - but you "don't look gift horses yada-yada-yada" as the saying goes.

Why do you prefer version 9 over 10? Is there no difference?

edit: up as in around the net

I don't see how [most] Windows (oh..text) editors [that you had tried] not having the features you specifically wanted are so bad. Your requirements are  not really cattered to from your findings so far .. no?

;D

Any updates recently? Any new users/comments for this software virtualization app? I would like to try, but the acquisition has kinda scared the shit outta me.

JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: GridMove simple grid maker
« on: February 01, 2009, 08:29 PM »
hey, I've just thought of this now.. so how about.. since I'm pretty lazy right now to make any custom grids, how about making a "GridBuilder" that can easily make some grids.. :D ? Where you could select regions in a window (representing the desktop), as well as set regions..

wow nice find, very good read. I've had my time with thinking about good orginzation methods, etc. file hiearchirse, the use of tagging, how to categorize by, type, company name, software name, task description, etc. and have spent quite (probably too much) time worrying about how i organize my files instead of getting shit done.. so in the end i think orngazingin is overated, and people these days have too much data than needed.. any thing they really need is close by in their memory (head)..

if u wanna get too carried away with heierachy, its never gonna work, you wont be able to sort the files.. u have to put into cosideration the file type (mpg, mp3, doc, zip, jpg, etc.), weather it is actual "working data" or program setup files.

And then you have the filesystem limitations on Windows for example, if you are organinzing by file purpose

symlinks, hardlinks, etc. ofcourse on *nix, it's not much of a thing.

u also have to put into considerationm, are you catergorizng for your self? or others? very important question in terms of sorting alot of content.. are u sorthing this repository for your self for the future for easy retrieveal when you need it? or away you think some day some one might find your collection of things useful.. people organize things differently,

this is a rough draft.. will clean up later (missing parts of text). it's what ive come to find any ways while orgnazing, software, source code, backups, media, etc.

Chrome antics: did Google reverse-engineer Windows?

A close look at Chrome's source code suggests that Google has reverse engineered Windows. The goal? Improved security, which is very laudable, but there's just one small problem: reverse engineering is expressly forbidden by the Windows EULA.

 ;D

Developer's Corner / Re: DC loads fast. What is the secret.
« on: November 20, 2008, 09:12 AM »
yeah that's true, trolls wouldn't even last a week.. and maybe the fact that DC doesn't get much of them signing up is because the main thing new people see is the "donation" part of DC, then all the calls to actions about signing up to the forum, donating, etc. and by that time they are thinkg wtf and are usually out [therefor not bothering to sign up, and make a post or 10]

that would pretty much turn away most trolls/trouble makers..

Plus I think because the website design is sorta old school .. lol

People who are into their software and coding usually reside at DC longterm because they appreciate it.

« on: October 23, 2008, 06:50 AM »
Yeah, and once you do learn how to use SVN for code projects, web dev, etc. you might even start using it for regular files ; )

Iirc we've seen one or two posts from people who couldn't remember signing up for the newsletter who thought they were being spammed,

Idiots. They probably couldn't remember parking their car in some one elses garage either.
