N.A.N.Y. 2014 / NANY 2014 Release - Spews
« on: December 26, 2013, 08:23 PM »
NANY 2014 Entry Information

Application Name Spews
Supported OSes Windows XP, Vista, and 7.  Does not work on Windows 8/10.
Web Page Website
Download Link Download
Author Jody Holmes (Skwire Empire)

Description
Spews stands for "S* Process Excluding Wallpaper Switcher" (the S can stand for whatever you want: Skwire, Sucky, Super, Stupid, etc.) and is designed to automatically switch your wallpapers on a configurable schedule.  Simply add your image folders, choose your wallpaper options and click the Enable button at the bottom.  You can check/uncheck the images paths as needed; only checked paths will be scanned for images.

Spews also has a feature that automatically suspends the wallpaper switching if it detects any process names you configure in the Exclusions section.  This can be beneficial, for instance, when running games whose graphics corrupt if the wallpaper is changed.

N.A.N.Y. 2014 / NANY 2014 Release - Earl
« on: December 26, 2013, 08:20 PM »
NANY 2014 Entry Information

Application Name Earl
Supported OSes Windows XP and later
Web Page Website
Download Link Download
Author Jody Holmes (Skwire Empire)

Description
Earl is a commandline application that allows you to convert .URL files into standard Window shortcut files (.LNK). This can be helpful if you use an application that doesn’t understand .URL files but does understand standard Windows shortcuts. For instance, some icon docks won’t handle a .URL file dropped on them, but can work with regular Windows shortcuts.  If you're looking to convert Steam .URL files, please use my SteamURLConverter application instead.

Usage

Installation
Download the zip file and extract its contents into a new folder.  Run Earl.exe to start the application.

  • Drag & drop a .URL file onto the executable.
  • A standard Windows shortcut file will be created in the same directory as the .URL file.
  • Alternately, this app can add a shortcut to your “Send to” folder so you can process multiple .URL files by using the “Send to” option in your right-click menu.

Uninstallation
Delete the folder you unzipped it to.  The application doesn't write any of its settings to the registry.

Living Room / New Desktop parts list (RFC)
« on: December 22, 2012, 08:27 PM »
I'm building a new desktop with a budget of around $1100.  My current dekstop is going on six years old (single-core Athlon) and I've been out of the hardware loop for at least that long.   :D  So, with that in mind, I'd like any comments and/or suggestions on the following parts list I've assembled:

Case ($79.99):
Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl w/ USB 3.0 ATX Mid Tower Silent PC Computer Case

Power Supply ($89.99):
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply

Motherboard ($139.99):
GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD3H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

CPU ($219.99):
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K

RAM ($84.99):
G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GSR

Video Card ($299.99):
GIGABYTE GV-N66TOC-2GD GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

SSD ($199.99):
Intel 330 Series SSDSC2CT240A3K5 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

CPU Cooler ($29.99):
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2 Continuous Direct Contact 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler

I have plenty of spare hard drives laying around so I've no need to buy one for this build.  Also, no need for monitors, mouse, keyboard, or speakers as I'll be using my current ones for this.  Finally, I have legitimate Windows licenses from a TechNet subscription so no need for that extra cost.

Thank you for any and all command and/or suggestions.  I really appreciate them.

N.A.N.Y. 2013 / NANY 2013 Release: sImgurUploader
« on: December 08, 2012, 11:35 PM »
NANY 2013 Entry Information

Application Name sImgurUploader
Supported OSes Windows XP and later
Web Page Website
Download Link Download
Author Jody Holmes (Skwire Empire)

Description
Simple commandline application that uploads a single image to Imgur and automatically puts the URL on the clipboard.  This application was designed as a Screenshot Captor tool and, to that end, includes a .sctool file for easy integration within Screenshot Captor.  However, that's not a requirement and this application can easily be integrated into your own scripts and such.

You must have your own Imgur Anonymous API key for this application to work.  On its first run, sImgurUploader will ask you to enter your API key.  Without one, the application will exit.  If you do not have an Imgur Anonymous API key, you can get one here: http://imgur.com/register/api_anon.

Usage
Installation
If you intend on using this as a Screenshot Captor tool, download the zip file and extract its contents into your Screenshot Captor\Tools folder.   Run the sImgurUploader.exe file manually and it will ask for your API key.  You then need to restart Screenshot Captor or go to Tools > Configure External Tools and then just close the Config dialog.  If you intend to use this application stand-alone, extract the contents to whatever folder you'd like and invoke the application from there.

Using the Application
Assuming you have it installed properly, within Screenshot Captor, simply use the Tools menu.  Otherwise the usage is simple:
c:\path\to\sImgurUploader.exe "<path to image file>"
Alternately, you can drop an image file onto the executable.  You can reference the sImgurUploader.log file for deletion links, etc.

Uninstallation
Delete the folder you installed it to.  For Windows XP, the sImgurUploader.ini and sImgurUploader.log file are saved in the install folder.  For Windows Vista and later, those files are saved in your %APPDATA%\Skwire Empire\sImgurUploader folder.  The application doesn't write any of its settings to the registry.
