Description
If you’re up for it, some background is in order for this application so click the Spoiler button if interested.  If not, skip to the TL;DR section below.

Spoiler
In a network operations environment, there was always a need to quickly ping large numbers of IP addresses. The best application, by far, that I found is an app called HELIUM PINGer. Even though it’s an older app, it is a truly multi-threaded, outstandingly fast application that works extremely well. It was indispensable when I worked in network operations several years ago and I still keep it in my network app toolbox. If you need such an app, look no further. Another application in this vein is the professionally done PingInfoView by the incomparable Nir Sofer. I keep that installed as well.

Now, on to sPinger. During my tenure in network operations (2000-2010), I wrote a suite of applications, in my spare time, that my group used. One of these was a mass pinger, like the above, with a few extra features that we used extensively.

The first was the ability to quickly ping entire lists of subnets for only the reachable addresses. This allowed to you create a basic baseline of reachable customers and devices before, say, making a network change. You could easily see if your changes, in realtime, had any adverse affects in regards to reachability.
Another feature was in regards to IP subnet generation. Even though HELIUM PINGer has a subnet generator, you can only generate one subnet’s worth of addresses at a time. We needed the ability to simply paste in a list of subnets and quickly generate the addresses for all of them.
My applications are written in AutoHotkey so the main drawback of my original mass pinger app was that it was single-threaded because AutoHotkey itself is single-threaded. For DonationCoder’s NANY 2017 promotion, I wanted to see if I could rewrite that app with some pseudo-multi-threading and I’ve accomplished that. However, there is no way my app can compete with HELIUM PINGer when it comes to CPU usage when multiple threads are in use. Again, if you need an app like this for heavy-duty use, just get HELIUM PINGer already. That said, the multi-thread functionality is entirely configurable within sPinger, so you should be able to find a happy medium. As a final treat, I’ve made the list icons configurable and have included lots of fun themes I put together (see screenshot below).

TL;DR:
Ping multiple IP addresses and hostnames with fun icon themes. Features:

Pseudo multi-threaded.
Quickly generate lists of all addresses from a list of subnets.
Quickly generate lists of only pingable addresses from a list of subnets.  This feature is not available on Windows 8 & Windows 10.
DNS scan mode to quickly retrieve hostnames from IP addresses.
Fun icon themes in the list to show good, bad, and expired pings.
Configurable list — colours, fonts, etc.

Description
Tiny, tray-based utility that gives you a completely configurable menu for quick access to:

  • Shutdown
  • Restart
  • Switch user
  • Log off
  • Lock
  • Sleep
  • Hibernate
  • Start screensaver
  • Turn monitor off
  • Switch default printer

I use Microsoft’s Remote Desktop (RDP) a lot for the various computers and VMs that I deal with. RDP works great but has one drawback and that is, for whatever reason Microsoft has, the normal shutdown and reboot commands are missing from the Start Menu when you’re working on a computer remotely. Yes, you can use the shutdown command via the commandline or you can click the taskbar and press Alt-F4, etc, but not everybody is comfortable using the commandline or remembers that hotkey. Hence, this simple utility.

It just so happens that I'll be in Singapore (for work) from April 26-29.  If any DC members live in Singapore and would like to meet up for a meal, please let me know.  Furthermore, since DC member lanux128 lives a short distance away in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I'm going to fly over there on Thursday, April 30th for a day and a half to meet him.  So, if any other DC members live around Kuala Lumpur and want to meet up, please let me know as well.

Introduction
There really isn't much more to be said than the description above.  This app was written on request from a photographer and its main focus is to quickly view the aspect ratio of images loaded into its interface.  There are columns for exact ratio (determined by straight math) and nearest preset match which can help to see the nearest aspect ratio for files that aren't pixel perfect.  The software comes preloaded with a large list of aspect ratios but this is entirely configurable.  Of course, the more aspect ratios, the more accurate the nearest preset match is going to be.

Features
  • Load images via the menu, toolbar, or simply by dragging and dropping files or folders.
  • Standard listview interface (column widths and order are saved)
  • Export to CSV function
  • Always on top button

Installation
Download the zip file and extract its contents into a new folder.  Run Arti.exe to start the application.  Add some images and behold.   :P

Supported OSes Windows 7.  Might work, but not tested on, Windows XP/Vista/8/10

Description
Splat (Simple Program Launching and Termination) is a program that allows you to build launch profiles that can include the following: 1) Launching applications, files, folders, URLs, etc., 2) The closing/killing of processes, and 3) Starting and stopping of services.  You control the order and you can also insert two types of delays in between actions: 1) Time-based delays (wait n number of seconds before going on) and 2) CPU-usage delays (wait until the CPU usage gets below a certain percentage).  Hotkey support is extensive; each launch profile can have its own hotkey or you can use one hotkey to launch multiple profiles.  Profiles can be launched via the main interface, hotkeys, or the tray icon.  Usage examples include:

  • Startup profile to control the timing and order of which apps you want to start after booting your computer.
  • Pre-gaming profile to close/kill/stop unwanted processes and services.
  • Post-gaming profile to open/start those same processes and services.
  • URL groups to launch sets of websites.
  • Development profile to start up your IDE, debugger, etc.
