Living Room / FREE Textbook website launched!
« on: November 13, 2005, 06:04 PM »
Hi all-

I'm a proud donation coder member.  I just launched a website that collects and disseminates free textbooks and online educational resources.  I'd love it if you'd check it out, and if you like it, I'd appreciate help with publicity--blog it, link it, tell your friends!  Come visit http://textbookrevolution.org/

If you know of any free textbooks (especially computer books), please tell me about them, too:  [email protected].

And mouser suggests that I add a note about Creative Commons.  Put simply, it's an attempt to bring sanity back to a copyright system that has been badly skewed from its original purpose of promoting the production of new work to benefit the public.  Copyright was devised as an incentive to authors and inventors to come up with new work, then profit (briefly), and finally let the work pass into the public domain.  Now, giant corporations are trying to turn copyright into an endless money farm, which hurts the free transmission of information.  Visit http://textbookrevol...ured-on-this-website
for more info.

Best-

Jason Turgeon

I have pretty simple needs, mostly unzipping stuf that I've downloaded.  I tried a few of the ones on your list before settling on winrar as the easiest to use and with the best interface.  Best free application for me has been tugzip, which I use at work.

General Review Discussion / Free PDF tools review?
« on: August 21, 2005, 09:40 PM »
Hi all-

How about a review of the best of the free PDF tools out there.  There are a ton of tools that will let you print to PDF, but very few that will do the more important stuff--splitting and merging, etc.  Anyone else like this idea?

Not volunteering due to time issues, but I'd like to suggest Tugzip get included in the compression tools review.  Looking forward to it!

Found out about this site through Langa a couple of weeks ago and just joined-great service!  I don't want to be notified every time a new topic is posted in the forums, but I do want a feed that will tell me every time a new program is reviewed.  Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,
Jason
