101  Other Software / DC Gamer Club / Re: Torchlight 2 on: October 06, 2012, 08:38:23 AM
new patch has gone live!
I've lost fun after this Sad
I had no problems with this game and it was running perfectly well previously but now I have desync issues all the time on LAN (didn't try online after update).
It is so bad that I can see my bro running around with me clearing the level, while he sees me standing at one place all time. And each level loads few f****n minutes (were just seconds before).
102  Other Software / DC Gamer Club / Re: Torchlight 2 on: September 25, 2012, 04:09:14 AM
Been 1.5 through the game so far smiley

I have no Internet at home to fully try multiplayer but LAN with one more player is pretty awesome. Although it has few small bugs*, game runs very smoothly and I am surprised about that.

It is decent game but it is missing *something* (my screenshots folder is pretty small for this title).

*) Bugs:
- dunno for full story - chapter movies are choking for me,
- no camera rotation (understandable optimization) and strange zoom (not acceptable),
- broken stats - same characters level and I have about 400 enemies killed BUT my bro have 12k (how is it even possible if we never separate).

@DonL
I will not install MSE just to disable XY in it Wink

@Jibz
I also think this may be multi-threading issue.
Even my own applications were freezing single-threaded (BBCeditor has parsing engine runnig in separate thread and Comparer is getting thumbnails from explorer/plugins same way).

BTW TC was behaving in the same way for folders with a lot of icons/thumbnails. It stopped with one update, after Ghisler had made some functions to work in background.

@TaoPhoenix
You can count me in.

As I mostly have the best ideas late at night, I sometimes go to sleep with my keyboard. Heck, it even happened with BBCeditor when I was writing second parsing engine for it: coding until you don't even know what you are typing in… But the best moments were not coding-related.

As soon as I get known about Allen Ginsberg works I became a fan of "stream of consciousness" term. Getting yourself into the specific way of thinking, specific rhythm of thoughts and writing while on it. In case of Beat Generation in was often induced through drugs but I didn't want to go this way so… knowing about Saint Vitus Dance I used to get into similar states when being tired. And it was great for creativity.

Except strange poetry, the first thing I wrote was a short story - typing machine FTW - about something similar to concentration camps. Writing process was amazing, so much stuff coming to mind, but some of the results were "little bit of" so I had to skip them for the sake of staying sake. Result: best thing I ever wrote.

Second amazing story - same whole day writing until unconscious scenario - was more Lynch-like. Again, it gave very nice output but whole procedure was more scary than ever. I had to stop few times because I was scared what my mind is capable of. Sleep-like state was indeed helpful for Lynchizm but… scary the demons are. Weird thing is: I have a novel which can be started at any page, read till whole circle is set and it will still be consistent within itself.

Those were scary, tiresome but not punishment in any way. Or you may call it masochism if you like.

In terms of law, we may wonder how would it work. I am not sure forcing people to do things could bring suffering but not allowing them do do some - definitely (as one of interrogation methods is preventing sleep).

I had bought recently with BitsDuJour help and been trying to use only this for couple of days and I must say: it takes me back to Total Commander more and more each day.

One of the reason, obviously, is the fact of being long time TC user (10 years?), second is - lack of features I need like:

  • custom columns - XY has 12, Windows Explorer 41, TC hundreds; I can switch between saved list view configurations any way I like,
  • previews and thumbnails for lot more filetypes than standard explorer can handle; I admit TC has WLX plugins (MultiLister is the best here) but it can also call XnView or IrfanView via WM messages to get data from them,
  • no freezes on large directories - if directory contains dozen of executables XY freezes (I have antivirus exclusions for it already), if there are non-standard (i.e. PDFs) thumbs… freezes again; can't it load thumbs/icons in background and cache them?
  • TC can browse inside archives while XY calls WinRAR; couldn't it support ZIP and RAR at least?
  • and if I click on thumbnail it would be nice to have it selected, not only the file name which gets unseen between dozen of thumbs.
OK, enough complaining for today Wink

Something in plus: mini tree view is just awesome and it would be even better to have it implemented with list properties like these:
http://www.codeproject.co...746/TreeView-with-Columns
http://www.codeproject.co...Advanced-TreeView-for-NET
http://www.codeproject.co...les/93/A-TreeList-Control

Another idea: more Excel-like features for files list and you have a winner.

109  Other Software / Developer's Corner / Re: Adding controls smoothly... on: August 28, 2012, 09:30:56 AM
I had investigated such issue long ago and there was no solution for multi-control forms. SuspedLayout is the most popular/answered one but it does not help too much.
There is also double buffering solution which also has some troubles.

The only thing which helped (from user perspective) was to "make screen busy"  - according to an advice from MS site I read very long ago.
So… build eveything in background and show waiting animation during that.
110  Other Software / DC Gamer Club / Re: Torchlight 2 on: August 28, 2012, 05:23:02 AM
I am getting angry with this: developers changing release dates and saying they did not tell them in the past.
First it was July, then "Summer 2012" (in fact it may mean December - AFAIK that's summer in Australia) and now "we will tell you soon".

I know development needs time and I know I am whining here but - seriously - if I treat my landlord same way, I would be living in cardboard box pretty quickly.

Does your software save embedded color profiles?
It can to may lead to many issues in various applications (i.e. Firefox or others).

@Stephen66515
1. Similar to this:
http://jqueryui.com/download
…but for other web libraries/frameworks (modernizer, html5 shiv, etc.).

4. Many image browsers have geotagging support: you click on "tag it" button and have gmaps loaded (your service) in application window. You chose location and it gets saved as longitude+latitude +altitude (sometimes) in image meta info. If you have custom mapping service instead of gmaps, real coordinates could be shown on custom map.
i.e. 52° 15' 0" N / 21° 0' 0" E would not show Warsaw on it but "the sniper tower located left of the east gate".

1. web configurator - chose what would you like to see on your page, what browsers to support, etc. -> you'll see links for libraries
i.e I want my page to support HTML5/CSS3 and fixed size layout - links for modernizer and 960

2. cook it - type in what you've got in fridge -> see closest recipe

3. pr0n lookup - chose what kind of " human features" you like ->  actress name Wink

4. gmaps like system for custom maps - I would really like to have GPS tagged games screenshots

5. fun SPAM - page with hilarious email SPAM screenshots,

 thumb down
I am one of the happy XP users and there is no true reason for me to lose few hundreds bucks just for the sake of newer OS and IE bashing.
IE8 is not so bad with few JS libraries in use (a LOT better than previous versions when you need to fix websites and I do it daily).

Long info:
http://www.regular-expressions.info/tutorial.html

Short:
. - any character
\d - any numeric character
* - zero or more occurrences
? - after them is switch for "non greedy mode"
parenthesis - mark expression group which can be referenced in replacement as $1
118  Other Software / Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: BBCeditor 1.0.30 on: August 13, 2012, 03:42:02 PM
@cranioscopical
It is still the same issue: Designer generated code has one method called before proper object is set. You can be sure that's it if you see:
Quote
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ResumeLayout(Boolean performLayout)
at BBCeditor.Form1.InitializeComponent() in D:\code\Projects2010\BBCeditor\BBCeditor\Form1.Designer.cs:line 1604
I had thought one time fix is enough but I was wrong: any work with Designer switches this error back. This is something to teach you being scrupulous Wink
119  Other Software / Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: BBCeditor 1.0.30 on: August 13, 2012, 12:20:59 PM
@cranioscopical
Try this one:
http://fenixproductions.d...om/bbc/BBCeditor1135b.zip

If it works I will need to note somewhere down that each work with Designer requires manual code re-arrangement.
120  Other Software / Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: BBCeditor 1.1.35 on: August 12, 2012, 06:18:57 PM
1.1.35:
http://fenixproductions.d...com/bbc/BBCeditor1135.zip

- error logging re-enabled - cranioscopical
- option for clearing non-existing Recent files on startup - MilesAhead
- if some text is selected, clicking on Regexp button uses it inside tags (if there are (.*?) or (\d*?) in expressions) - ioncube
- few Regex buttons samples added - taken from here as ioncube suggested

I've commented out error checking code in this one. I will add it back later today and we'll see if that helps.

I think Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C are enough for this task.

hehe, it's not like you had anything else to do though, is it...
Yes and no Wink
No - BBCeditor has most of the features you would normally use and I am pretty lazy.

Yes:
- code cleanup (again) - there is a lot of redundant or unwanted code - either from old engine (manual parsing in past, regexp now) or some functions used multiple times (Ctrl+C/V is easier for beginner but re-factoring is important for bigger programs),
- tabs - always useful but multithreading is still problematic for me (preview is generated in separate thread),
- templates - although BBCeditor has snippets it would be nice to implement templates like DC has,
- tags rule sets -there are multiple variations of BB syntax and my tool tries to handle most of them but maybe some should be possible to be switched off (i.e. parse only tags which are valid for DC),
- live editor - I saw on CodeProject HTML edit control which allowed to edit HTML code directly within it; BBCeditor would have the possibility to work in WYSIWYG way;
- direct post -it should be technically possible to send POST message via HTTP to any web address and put your message directly into wanted board,
- BB syntax highlight,
- text operation - sorting, case change, etc.
- Jump lists - since I have Win7 on my work laptop I can always play with that.
