s.newave: forget about my bug, must have been a strange mommentaneous configuration, I reinstalled the plugin and it's all good now.

Glad to hear its working

52
I think you can already do this with the "dosearch" command and additional aliases.
Not clear what you are referring to?

53
Amazing plugin! A few credits on their way ASAP!

Thanks!!

I've got a request: I'd like to be able to launch the Google Images search in FARRs internal browser, while the regular Google searches in my default browser. The way I see it, it would be fine to have a modifier for a search (gp +images +internal), while still the same plugin configuration option. I suppose there should also be a +external modifier, if internal launch is the default.

I thought about doing this but didnt know if anyone would use it :D. I will probably end up creating options where you can specify if you want to launch the result in FARR or not for each search type. This will avoid you having to type the modifiers every time. Will also add a search modifier as you suggested for one off situations.

s.newave: this looks like a great plugin!
But I can't understand why, but everytime I type "gp", the options dialog comes up :(

Are you talking about the GP settings dialog or FARR's? Not sure what could be causing this but i will look into it.

i just noticed that the past search history can be deleted, this is a cool feature! anyway s.newave, as with all plugins that interact with the web, is it possible to include a trigger key that will search after we have finished typing? this will be very helpful for those with slower connection speed. :)

Mouser also mentioned this during beta testing. Will look into adding something like this.

GooglePlus
This plugin allows you to choose from five different Google search types including Web, Local, Video, Images, and Books and will display search results in real time based on your search criteria. You can also choose to display extended information specific to each search type for each result.

Version 1.1 - March 20, 2009
  • Added Google News search
  • Added Google Blog search
  • Added ability to use custom icons for each website that will show up in search results as shown in the 2nd image above. See Tips below on how to add your own custom icons
  • Added a google search entry for each search type at the end of the search results
  • Added options to specify whether or not to launch search results within FARR for each search type
  • Fixed bug which would cause results not to show up
  • Cleaned up description of search results
  • Added some google search aliases for popular sites like amazon, imdb, wikipedia, metacritic, and donationcoder forums.

Usage
gp   - This will present you with the 7 different search types (Web, Local, Video, News, Images, Blogs, Books). Select one of the search types by typing in its name to filter the search or using the arrow keys to select and then press tab to activate that search. Tip: Typing "gp" followed by two spaces will recall the last search you executed since launching FARR.

gpw    - Alias for web search. The same as typing gp +web
gpl    - Alias for local search. The same as typing gp +local
gplw    - Google Local search alias for work. Edit the googleplus.alias file to change the zip code to your work zip code.
gplh    - Google Local search alias for home. Edit the googleplus.alias file to change the zip code to your home zip code.
gpv    - Alias for video search. The same as typing gp +video
gpn    - Alias for news search. The same as typing gp +news
gpi    - Alias for image search. The same as typing gp +images
gpg    - Alias for blog search. The same as typing gp +blog
gpb    - Alias for book search. The same as typing gp +book
gph    - Alias for GooglePlus search history. This will show you a list of all your previous searches since launching FARR.

Options
Show Description:  Selecting this option will display extended information in ( ) next to the name of each result specific to the search type you choose:
  • Web: Extended description of website
  • Video: The date the video was added, video duration, and an extended description
  • News: The publisher, date the article was added and an extended description
  • Local: The address and telephone # if provided for the search result
  • Images: The image's dimensions followed by an extended description
  • Blog: The date the post was added and an extended description
  • Book: The book's ISBN number followed by the books authors, year published, and page count.

Launch result in FARR: Select whether to launch the selected url in FARR's internal browser for each search type

Tips
- To add your own custom icon for a web site simply add the icon to the GooglePlus icons directory using the name of the website as the filename. For example you would name the file wikipedia.ico and donationcoder.ico for the sites www.wikipedia.org and www.donationcoder.com.
- You can also use Google search operators to alter the search results. Try adding site:donationcoder.com anywhere in your web search to limit results to donationcoder.com. Other useful operators include intitle and inurl. More operators can be found here. There are also many other search type specific operators that can be used.
- For the Local search try using the zipcode for the area you are searching in. Try something like "pizza 10021" for a list of pizza restaurants in the 10021 zip code or "atm 10021".
- For the Video search try using the duration:long operator to search for videos that are at least 20mins long.

Big thanks to ecaradec for creating the Javascript SDK and of course to Mouser who created this awesome piece of software!!!

56
ecaradec is there any chance you could add the ability use an html file as the readme file. I tried using readme.html but its not being launched however readme.txt works fine.

57
WOW!! This does sound very promising indeed. I think we might need you to kick it off with an example though  :D

I had another idea for this that i think would make it even more useful.
A lot of people are concerned about plugins using up memory and resources.

One thing i could do with a bit of work is make farr able to load a special kind of plugin that is a dll or even an exe program that basically is launched ONLY WHEN IT IS INVOKED, and then is closed as soon as the farr display is switched away.

So in other words this would be like an on-demand loaded plugins, loaded only when invoked, and then unloaded right after.

I would be ok with this as long as it DOESNT slow down the speed and execution of the plugin in exchange for less memory usage. The reason i have fallen for FARR is that it continues to push the boundaries of what this type of application can become especially with some of your more recent additions. Imho if the cost of those additions is another 10-20mb then so be it. If you want an absolutely lean 250kb program that launches apps and a little more then FARR can be setup for that and there are also more then enough vanilla apps that can do that. Just check FARR's help file. Also if you dont need/use a specific plugin dont enable/install it :D. By no means am i advocating that FARR turn into bloatware and i think currently it is FARR from it however i dont think mem use specifically should be a primary concern in future development. I would rather development time go towards alias histories or ui improvement :)

58
Amazing work as usual. Cant wait to try this out.

Thx

59
this one entry, FARR displays 'Alias hibernate'. Only the second invokation triggers the command.

this behavior happens if at the first time you hit enter, the alias is not fully spelled out.  so the first time you hit enter it is autocompleting the alias.  so: hibern -> [ENTER] -> hibernate -> [ENTER] -> launch

personally i like this behavior BUT i can definitely see how people would prefer farr just launch it straight away and that that would make more sense perhaps.  i will either make an option to do it that way, OR make it work like that period.

hmm, correct me if im wrong but i was under the impression that the functionality to automatically launch an alias with only a single result was added a few releases ago . So for your example above hitting enter once would launch the alias which i though was great. However im all for making it an option.

60
Not sure how detailed you want to get but here is my suggestion from an earlier thread:

I vote that the alias/plugin should have the ability to set the size of the window although just as the with all other plugins the user should be able to overide this setting. As you suggested earlier the ability to set the sizing for a specific url would be even better.

If going down this path i would suggest some type of html options page where the user could save a specific regex url mask with the following options:

-window size & position
-keyboard focus
-pre-processing file (file/script to send html to which would in turn return html that would be displayed. greasemonkey style)
-post processing file (file/script to run after launching url)

More options could be added/removed as needed along with a set of default standards.

61
is be bypassed somehow so the output can be dynamically changed as the user types in something?

is being fixed as we speak.

62
Also it no longer automatically launches the alias if there is only one result.

are you sure? if you hit enter it should launch.

Still having trouble with this.

For example if i create an alias with the name "test" and "https://www.donationcoder.com/" as the result if i type "te" and hit enter it was my understanding that FARR would automatically launch the result because there is only one result for the alias. Instead it completes the alias to "test" and hitting enter then will launch the site. Same thing happens with any of the nircmd aliases.

63
Doh! It was actually one of my aliases that was using reststartsearch instead of dosearch  :-[

64
It fixes the problem i had above however as kartal mentioned it does not add a space after completing the alias. Also it no longer automatically launches the alias if there is only one result.

65
Scratch that. Still having problems launching some aliases. For example if i type standby from nircmd alias pack and hit tab i get:

"nircmd.exe qboxcom "Do you want to Standby the computer?" "question" Standby"

and pressing enter doesnt launch the alias. To make things more confusing using the "Lock PC" alias from the same alias pack works fine?

66
+1 as suggested here  :D

Would it be possible to add another set of "Report Columns" options in the display tab for the large icon slide display style. This way you would have a "Report Columns" for each display style and could specify different columns to use for each style. To be more accurate it would probably be a "Report Columns" for the small icon report and "Report Rows" for the large icon slide style. I think this would work well especially with the functionality to automatically switch display styles. I find myself using the large icons for regular app launching etc where i wouldnt normally need to view a lot of the other columns however when it automatically switches to the small icon report for dir results as well as a lot of the plugin results i would like to see the other columns.

Likewise it would be great if in the Fonts tab you could have the option to set the font/size for the other rows besides the "Name" row when using the large icon style. Being able to change the fonts would imo be very helpful in making the "Name" row more prominent and distinguishable from any other rows the user has specified.

67
So far so good

then we can return to the issue of a more interactive completer for aliases with arguments, i had a few more ideas about it i will talk about later.

Sounds promising

68
I think maybe i see.. the old version would autocomplete an alias match (whether name or regular expression) with the name of the alias, is that what you guys want back?

simple example
goo (tab)->google (tab)->"search item(from this point only space should be used for seperating words)" (enter) ->search starts

example with argument passing (passing 2 arguments to an exe file for example sendemail.exe)
sende (tab)->sendemail (tab) ->"first argument(whichs is $$1)" (tab) ->"second argument(which is $$2)" (enter) -> arguments are passed to sendemail.exe

+1 similar to a suggestion i posted here https://www.donation....msg114435#msg114435 coupled with a visual representation for the ui similar to this:

It would be great to be able to display which alias/plugin is currently being used or active in a more intuitive/attractive manner. For example lets say you are using the delicious plugin. Once you enter dlc the search results show tags and posts. When you select tags and hit tab the search box changes to dlc +tags and displays all the given tags it finds. Lets say you choose the software tag and type in "farr" now the search box shows dlc +posts :software farr. I think one idea could be to show some type of breadcrumb structure either on the status bar or preferably in a new area right above the search box and subsequently clearing the search box after a new crumb is added. A standard key such as esc could be used to go back a step and tab could be used to move forward. So for the delicious plugin instead of having "dlc +posts :software farr" you would display something like dlc > posts > software above the search box and only the current search term "farr" in the search box. Another visual cue to inform you of which plugin/alias you were using would be to keep the same icon to he left of the search box

i figure the more i ask the better the chances of seeing it implemented in some way :D

69
Any update on this?  Not being able to tab complete is killing me  :(

70
Love the new options dialog. Great job as always

Hopefully Vitally can update his plugins as they are all really usefull to me.

When running it via igo, it displays (except for the image) but the links give this error popup:
"current contents are not safe for local launching."

Also having this problem.

Once we have some way to force focus back to the inputbox and get farr:// links working then I can implement the mp3 album cover displayer idea. Yay!

Also found that focus is stolen from the search box as soon as the htmlview mode is executed. Would be great if the focus would remain in the search box and perhaps pressing tab key would move focus to the html window.

A nice addition would be to be able to use the arrow and pgup/pgdn keys from the search box to control the html window similar to how the memo mode works.

73
Nod5 thx for the link although i was actually referring to idea of controlling the html window while focus is still in the search box.

When launching most sites using igo command for example the keyboard focus is lost and subsequently does not respond to any keyboard inout. This requires using the mouse to bring focus back to either the html window or search box.  :(

Mouser, not sure how tricky it would be, but pls can you look into the option of having focus remain/return to the search box after the site has been loaded. Unlike sites like google.com it seems that most sites do not set focus to a specific control and I think moving the focus back to the search box would provide more consistent results rather than leaving it up to the site being launched. As mentioned above you can then hit the tab key to move focus to the html window.
