General Software Discussion / Re: Beware of download sites

I fear these sites like I fear the Devil.

What has happened to the Internet that we once knew?

It died when Google stopped being a search engine and became an advertising company

Living Room / Re: Ad Industry Attacks Firefox

One of the first things I do when I put Firefox on peoples computers is block third party cookies
Next I install Better Privacy
Then install add-ons like Adblock plus, Ghostry, HTTPS Everywhere
I see almost no adverts

Key scrambler
Avast
MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit
Private Firewall
Process Lasso
Battery
Sound
Internet

And my quick launch
Show Desktop
Deluge
Firefox
Snipping Tool
Show/Hide Desktop Icons

Pinned to start menu
Toolwiz Timefreeze
Adobe Dreamweaver
Intel SSD Toolbox
Shadow Explorer
Macrium Reflect
Total Media
Duplicate Image Finder
Faststone Capture
Wordpad
Notepad ++
Calculator

I have been using Private Firewall for a while now and think it is very good as a two way firewall.
Easy to use and totally free

I have a download site (small) don't bundle software, don't have adverts, no cookies, no logon
It was really a site with a few guides on using free software
I don't record who comes to my site (I really don't care who comes)
I am unable to say if my hosting site (Go Daddy) tracks or records anything as I don't know but I expect they must record the traffic to my site

Did you forget to uncheck the option to try the pro version when you installed it. That runs on windows start and is the last window you see when installing

7
I would use Avira Antivir (free)
Use a host file
Block third party cookies
Install Better Privacy (Free)
Regularly scan with MalwareBytes Free version
I also use Ghostry which even blocks the tracking cookie from this site (Google Analytics)

I was having my FF cache on ram and that seemed to help but because I don't have a lot of ram I switched back to keeping it on the disc.
It was after reading it could be better if you use a SSD that I tried it
It did make things load faster though

Hi Suraj Kumar, What sort of business do you work from?
Are you working in IT?

Thanks for the welcome.
Have to sneak on to the site as should be working.
Moved and no internet at my new place yet, working on it.

I'm a 56 year old male from Nelson New Zealand. I work for a motor vehicle trader placing vehicles on trademe for the company.
I started playing with computers in 2004 and now have a website just starting out that has links to free for personal use software and tools with some guides on how I would show my mother how to use some of them.
My site is ilikefree.co
Thinking of adding a blog to my site when I learn how. ;)
