Living Room / Re: Any lawyers here?

I wonder if TWC has a disclaimer hidden in there someplace that weather forecasts are "for entertainment purposes only?"  :)

As for anything government related they usually just cite Sovereign Immunity and refuse to discuss the matter.  Then again I am not an attorney and all the stuff I have heard is just that.  Hearsay.  :)

Anyone know what Perry Mason has to say about it?

The Wither Channel always seems a little over-the-top, during a hurricane but their version of Matthew was just crazy, IMO.

The disclaimer is probably the show itself.  Like WWE or NASA's Unexplained Files.  ;D

Did Perry Mason ever lose a case?

I'm not a lawyer, but this is a traditionally time-worn subject for which some of the more well-known protagonists are weather forecasters, and either farmers or fishermen, for whom accurate forecasts are of great importance.
I already was aware of this, but realized I did not know the answer to the question of legal liability, and your post made me curious.
Here is an answer, of sorts; Someone to Blame: Legal Liability for Weather Forecasts.
BTW, purely FYI, a female newscaster who gives the weather report or forecast is a 'weather bunny', as shown here; Wanda The Weather Bunny" (Commercial, 1971). 8)

Thanks for your info, Holt.

I figured this subject had already been addressed in the past... somewhere.

Your first link was very informative.  Yes, it was overturned but what would $1.25 million be in today's money?

The Weather Bunny parody brought back memories of simpler time.  Though all 3 of my news/weather channels had zero women... men only.  :-\

Supposedly a 50 yr. old Florida woman died of a heart attack and her death was attributed to Hurricane Matthew.

If this woman was my mom or relative and she panicked easily, like my mom did, I'd be blaming The Weather Cannel for her death.

IMO Their undue hype about 'possible' dangers were very misleading.  Trying to make things seem worse than they really are or were.
Preying on people who've never been through one.

Couldn't TWC be held accountable for this woman's death?

P.S.  The Bahamas-roof-lift-off video was shown again and again.  The roof-half came up like a post Wilma DIY project.  Like it was held on by gravity.

FWIW  Matthew was a strong storm when it was offshore of Ft. Lauderdale.  But the keyword here is offshore.  About 40 friggin' miles offshore.
Too far to cause any 'possible' death or destruction.  There were wind gusts here and there but you had to be outdoors to notice.
The small amount of rain was vertical and more of a sprinkle.  No flooding. No floating cars. No reason to panic or run away.  No loss of power; didn't even blink.

So sorry for your loss, Mouser.

Your father baking bread reminded me of my father baking bread. He passed in '94 but I can still smell the fresh-baked bread cooling on the stove.

Good times!

Geez - Way to suck all the fun out of anthropomorphism guys..

It's only 'fun' when an object is up to snuff.  Rides, animals, puters ..   :)

I *LOVE* my car!!!

Every time i drive in it i talk to it and pet it and tell it how much i appreciate it.
"Such a good little car.. Such a good little car.."

Erm....

Talking to ones transport isn't uncommon especially after it stops running at a stop light or in traffic.  I've noticed kicking as well.   ;D

Listening is equally good.  Sounds it didn't make before that may need attention.

Stuff like hard(er) starting, rough idle, whistling, screeching, grinding, squeaky brakes, steering wheel vibrations...

You lose Real-Time Protection, Scheduled Scanning and Automatic Updates; but if money is tight (me) this may be one less expense.   :)

Generally I don't like real time protection anyway.  I have been using the free version of SAS for years.

Hindsight -

Real-time protection provides a false sense of security.  Waste of money IMO.  SAS real-time didn't block the FBI hoax.  (Avast missed it as well).

Maybe it should be REAL time protection.  Relatively Effective Although Lacking   :(

Then there was the man who worked in a straw factory.
He was rather a desperate fellow, always clutching at straws.

Not only that but when the factory went out of business eventually he got to the last straw.

Which broke the camels back.  :(

All I know is that this orange-apple image, enlarging underneath the YouTube screen, is the first time it has happened (to me).

I understood your image, but couldn't reproduce the problem, and decided it was probably something we could ignore or at least file as low-priority problem for now.

Thank you for your reply.  I suppose this could be my machine and or browser as well?  Vista and IE 9?

Maybe a 1000 words would be better?

All I know is that this orange-apple image, enlarging underneath the YouTube screen, is the first time it has happened (to me).

But I can't recall ever enlarging an image attached directly below a YouTube screen before... so...  :-[

In exploring this forum, if I click on 'bottom', it gives me a choice of 'top' or 'last'.
When I click on 'top', it gives me 'bottom' and 'last'.
I'm just letting you guys know that there is something seriously wrong here!
If you click on 'top', it should take you to where it says 'top'.
And when you click on 'bottom', you should go to where it says 'bottom'.
It's ass-backwards! You guys? Hello?

I've actually never noticed those links before... They're quite handy.

I think there used to be a "go down" link at the top of the thread instead of "bottom".
I guess it is not possible but I find the "go to first unread" when a thread has new replies very useful.  You don't have to guess how many new replies there are or read them in reverse order.  Just click the nub and you are at the first one.

Edit: On some other forums the list of updated threads has a quasi-button on the left of each.  Click it and you are at the first unread in that thread.

I agree 'bottom' does not mean 'you are at the bottom'.  Though 'go up' or 'go down' would be easier to understand.   :)

However, the Trump t-shirt and Mr. Peanut images seem to be UA.  Both were attached directly from me to here.

^ any info about that animal?
I thought it was an owl first - I can see it's a cat but wondering how real it is (it *looks* real)

It's a Pallas' Cat.
I think they look very intriguing also.  Then again, I'm a cat person, so... yeah.

Lots of pictures here: http://www.arkinspac...hat-time-forgot.html
One cool thing is their eyes; the pupils are round instead of typical cat slits.  Beautiful creatures.

Me being a cat person as well, Edvard, your Pallas' Cat inspired me to learn more about cats eyes.

Or pupil shapes in general.  http://pets.thenest....cats-pupil-7069.html  Scalloped, square and W-shaped pupils?

Round

Among the great cats, lions, tigers and cougars have round pupils. Round pupils give good vision in the daytime, and they can close to pinpoints to protect the sensitive inner structures of the eyes from too much light. They can also expand in low-light situations, such as dawn and dusk, to allow some night hunting.

Slit

Slit pupils can open and close faster than round ones, and wider, too. Your cat's eyeballs aren't much smaller than yours, but their pupils can open three times larger than yours. This lets her take advantage of the smallest amount of available light -- including starlight and snow glow -- for nighttime hunting. Jaguars and leopards haunt the dimness of the tropical rainforest but also come out occasionally on the open savannah to hunt at dawn and dusk. Because they spend most of their time in semi-darkness, slit pupils work best for them.

Horizontal

You won't find horizontal pupils on any cats, but lots of grazing animals -- goats, sheep, cattle, horses, kangaroos, hippopotamuses -- have them so they can see big cats (or other predators) sneaking up on them. They have three-dimensional vision for 330 degrees: almost all the way around their heads. That means that when you're riding a horse, he can see you sitting on his back.

Vertical

Cats that hunt primarily at night or in low-light conditions have vertical-slit pupils. Because they are predators and not prey, they don't need to see what's sneaking up behind them -- they're doing the sneaking. Vertical slits work well for domestic cats and many small wild cats. With vertical-slit pupils and horizontally opening eyelids, cats have exquisite and precise control of the amount of light that enters their eyes. They can even express feelings with the pupils of their eyes. If Fluffy's pupils are slits in daylight, she's calm and relaxed. On the other hand, if her pupils are dilated round in bright light, something's wrong -- she's probably ready to run for her life or kill something.

Interesting short-read here  http://blog.laptopma...stuck-windows-update

This deals with update freeze during shut down.  Not your issue but it talks about a System Update Readiness Tool from Microsoft’s website.

... may help reset something ... :)

The Microsoft Fix It (first link) worked for my Vista Home Premium update freezes.

nope, the fixit tool...didn't.  And FWIW there are apparently 2 versions, one of which can be more 'aggressive' in its actions

... and the second link was equally useless?
