Ooohhhh my!... never mind.  Thanks.  Silly me - I was trying to use the File menu commands - w/ inconsistent results (not sure what I did right one time & wrong the next).

Dragging or copy / paste a file or folder from explorer is much easier.  I see "create a new folder here" is also a choice from File menu.  "here" meaning, in the left thumbnail view pane.  That allows user to then rename new folder(s) in SSC thumbnail pane, if needed.

Hmmm...     (see attachment in previous post)  I'm not sure about the issue of the first letter missing....  I couldn't replicate that effect.
Just to remind, the 1st character on a line being cut off - as in attached screen (using L justifications), only seems to happen when using screen size SMALLER than 100%.  Did you try it at 50% or autofit w/ left justification & font size of ~ 20?  In your screen from earlier reply, shows at 300+%.  Try it at 50% & see if cuts off 1st letters on each line.

I do understand about initial text box typing being in a faster draft mode, but for me, some of the type is almost unreadable as I'm typing (when using < 100% screen size).

Screenshot Captor / Adding SSC 3.0 to Explorer context or "Open With"
« on: February 13, 2012, 02:40 PM »
In past SSC versions, don't recall there was an option to add SSC to Explorer context or add it to "Open With" list, from installation or from SSC preferences.

It is probably possible to manually add it to the Open With list, by copying / pasting a shortcut to that Vista folder (forgot exactly where it's located).

I don't know if newest ver of EITHER portable or install pkg gives an option to do either of these, or if it can only be done manually.  Sometimes I just want to click on a saved image & open w/ SSC (if possible).

Thanks for any suggestions.

What is easiest way (fewest steps) to open a file (say, jpg) saved on disk, into the SSC screen?

To open ONE pic, must you ALWAYS 1st use "Create New Blank Image File," THEN "Add Image File As Object to Screenshot?"

Selecting a file (copying) from folder in Explorer, then Ctrl + V onto SSC blank object screen doesn't always seem to work correctly.

Seems like there should be a File menu option just to browse to a folder / image, select it & open in SSC w/ no other steps necessary.  I'm probably missing something.

For SEVERAL images, best way I found (so far) is create a New Folder in SSC, then copy / paste images from an Explorer folder into the SSC folder just created.  Then choose from the images shown inSSC's L pane.  Is that the best / easiest way to access / import MULTIPLE images into SSC?  So they can be selected quickly from the SSC left pane vs going back to Explorer folder time & again?

Thanks.

Thank.

Thank you both, very much.  I don't have latest v3 installed, but Help file section on "Text Box Objects" doesn't show the option "blend mode."  See image of Help file.
Probably why I couldn't figure it out.  I knew there must be an easy answer.

** Other issue I mentioned - when typing in a text box, if screen size selected (at top, R of window) is Auto Fit, or 50% or apparently anything EXCEPT 100%, the text characters are partly cut off at line beginnings & characters are often unreadable, to the point I can't tell what I've typed.  Appear to be missing pixels.

Maybe that's unavoidable when screen is anything but 100% (w/ current coding for text box objects)?  Sure, users can set screen size at 100% while adding text boxes, but from a user's perspective, images don't get intermittent blurring / pixels missing when selecting Auto Fit or 50% size.  Not noticeably, anyway.

Is there another setting to fix the blurry text / characters cut off, when using reduced screen sizes?

I've read everything & tried everything to get the background of a text object (text box) to be completely solid & block out all of the image or screen capture.  I've played w/ this a LOT & can't get it right.

Even if the transparency value = 255, & a bright color is selected for background, once edited image is saved, the text box background color is transparent / washed out, & the text (even bright red, bolded) is almost impossible to read over darker parts of a screen or image.  Like the part circled in red in attachment.  The area of an image doesn't have to be nearly black in order for the text to become unreadable.  I haven't seen these problems in other screen capture prgms or drawing prgms that allow a solid color background for text boxes.

This is a very common problem for me, entering text over screens or images where brightness of pic varies considerably from lightest to darkest area.  As long as the pic is all fairly light, added text comments are readable.  Any suggestions?

I also notice that as I'm entering the text, it's often quite "fuzzy" & sometimes part of letters are cut off -like at beginning of a line.  But, after saving the image & opening w/ a viewer, the text (other than above mentioned probs) is clean / even & not cut off at beginning of a line???

I tried uploading a small png file - doesn't seem to indicate / have an "add image" or "load image" button, once it's selected from my HDD.

Screenshot Captor / Re: ?Typing in arrow text boxes; no line wrap?
« on: October 27, 2011, 09:16 AM »
Thanks.  Again, given your explanation on certain usage of the arrow endpoint text (box), & it's limitations, tiny menu field & tiny font (while typing), manual commands for line wrap, etc., I'm not sure of its main purpose.  Just entering A word or label?

I think you misunderstood my statement.  In the "real" text boxes (not arrow end point), w/ 96 dpi (default) in prefs settings, & 20 font size, on a 100 % size screen capture, the ACTUAL SSC on - screen text box font appears barely as large than the screen capture font.  My MAX Firefox font size is 16.

Normally, 20 pt font would be quite LARGE.  The 20 pt text box font appears no larger than the assumed 16 pt from browser screen captures.

Also, Arial is (default) selected as font in SSC text box options.  The font actually shown in text boxes is obviously NOT Arial - more like Times New Roman, or something.  That would appear to be a bug.

When attaching files to posts here, after clicking Browse for attachment & selecting file, there is no "Add File" or "Attach" button on my screen.  It doesn't indicate the file(s) have been attached successfully until AFTER POSTING - not even during preview.  Once users have browsed & selected a file for attachment, should be another button on UI to add or attach it (& buttons to delete them).

Most forums show file name that was attached immediately, after browsing & "Adding."  This is the 1st forum I can recall, that if allow attachments, doesn't actually have an "Add (selected) File" button, after or near the Browse button.

Re:  Help page on adding attachments.  Shows examples like "attachthumb=#", yet when attaching files, I don't see any numbering associated w/ them.  Another possible forum UI issue?

Screenshot Captor / ?Typing in arrow text boxes; no line wrap?
« on: October 25, 2011, 03:15 PM »
I'm new to SSC (2.102.02).  Not exactly sure of main purpose of text box created w/ arrows.  Appears, can only type the text in tiny box in options area, rather than clicking / typing directly in created text box?  Are the boxes created w/ arrows (vs text boxes) intended to have only a few letters / couple words?  I must be missing something - if that's the only way to enter text, seems cumbersome.  Since no word wrap on it, leads me to think only intended for labels vs sentences.

Text box font size can be adjusted in SSC, but FWIW, the font size selected in arrow options doesn't appear on screen anywhere near size chosen.  Font size of 20 in arrow text font size would be much larger than a 100% screen capture text.  It's not - it's smaller than my browser screen font - set at 16.

Is there a way to automatically put a thin, colored border (line) around a caption "border" (which is really a blank, white box)?

I notice that if captured text from web page is reduced a moderate amt - 20% - image of text seems more degraded than some other screen capture prgms.  Is there a way to improve that?

Thanks.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Scrolling capture is not working
« on: October 24, 2011, 05:40 PM »
Maybe Screeshot Captor is a fine program for many of its features.  By now, seems everyone knows scrolling capture doesn't work in browsers - esp. Firefox.  I'm using latest SC 2.102.01 in Vista x64.

Something has changed in late versions of browsers (FF), where screen capture prgms (even old last free ver of FastStone) that handled scrolling capture perfectly in FF v3.6x & maybe v4 , no longer can - even updated prgms that claim to.  Then FastStone stopped scrolling capture (so did other similar prgms), then w/ another FF release, FastStone scroll capture worked again, then quit for good w/ another FF release.

Re:  current SC - please don't say that it supports scrolling screen function- it doesn't.  List it as a beta feature, or something - up front, before users jump thru all hoops to use it.  I understand it may be difficult to write the code so it will handle scrolling browser screens, but as a matter of being up front on "features," don't advertise it will when it won't.  Scrolling capture in FF 7, it flickers, flashes, stands still, scrolls down a bit, flashes / flickers some more, then after ~ 1 min captures only the viewable screen.

I'm perfectly fine w/ having to get a license - eventually - to use SC.  But, the effort one must go through to install, sign up, get the license only to discover it doesn't  handle some advertised features at all, that I often need is, uh, disappointing.

Other dedicated FF plugins "more suited to scrolling screen captures" have been mentioned.  Didn't see names, but assume one may be FireShot.  Maybe others I don't know of.  FireShot will do scrolling capture.  But in some respects, the free ver is a PIA to use.  I guess you get what you pay for, so can't complain too much.  I may have to pay for a prgm to handle scrolling capture.

Thanks.
