Living Room / TED Videos etc..
« on: December 08, 2006, 10:48 PM »
Just thought I would let everyone who isn't aware of it, that TED have a website.. Ted.com  (WhoodaGuessdit?) It features videos of many speakers, and there is a blog RSS feed that alerts you to new videos being posted.

For the uninitiated, TED is a conference for 1,000 people per year who are notoriously creative / intelligent. Lot's of technology related stuff there! Not just philosophy. In the way of tech, this video here is fantastic.

Enjoy!

I just came across Cooliris Previews, a Firefox extension that has amazed me in less than 10 minutes of use.  :tellme: Even lets you sticky the preview window. SO helpful for browsing DC very quickly and efficiently  :)

Cooliris Previews gives you the power to browse and share Web links and rich media instantly. Just mouse over any link, and the Cooliris preview window immediately appears to show you the content. No more clicking back and forth or losing your search context. To send a link, just click.

Thanks for posting Ken  Although it doesn't seem to help in the way of accessibility (WCAG) at all (which is law here, not just guidelines). But very nice all the same  8)

Much appreciated!

I have a friend that is incredible with MS Paint. (much different style though)
.....
This is a self portrait she did with nothing but Paint and a mouse (no sketch to base it on, like was used in that video):

She says it took about one hour to complete.

That is seriously amazing..thanks for sharing! Say congratulations to her for me, on being so talented

I've recently weened myself off completely from participating in any forums except this one.  DC is the only forum which has gone on for this long without any flame wars.  Furthermore, everyone here has always shown a lot of respect, patience, and consideration from top to bottom.  Like I said, I've been on a lot of forums over the years, and they've never lasted this long without any flaming among the members...not even close.

All this is, in my opinion, a huge testament to mouser's efforts to keep everything civil, yet with the freedom to pretty much say anything you want.  It's a rare combination, but it's been working.  So, as far as I'm concerned, I don't care what you call your software, the bottom line is that it doesn't cost you jack squat to use it, and it's some of the best software available.

Couldn't agree more.  Love DC and love the software.. but the people make DC what it is. The software is a Brucey Bonus (I think only nudone will understand that one  :D).

Living Room / Re: Linux security programs
« on: November 07, 2006, 02:18 AM »
Hiya everyone!
I am converting my Windows XP laptop into a Linux workstation :), and I know that there are far less security problems in Linux (and less people using it meaning there aren't many exploiters anyways), but are there any good security programs for Linux ?

P.S.: Is Mobysaurus available in a Linux compatable format? :o

Thanks,
-Wreckedcarzz

If you mean security as in protection, nothing really needs to be done after installation of a chosen distro. Just make sure you never run as root unless necessary  :) If you need any further help/advice, feel free to PM me

Point of interest - which distro?  :)

Some very nice shots Redhat. I particularly liked "LonelyWood" and "From the ground up". But all so small. :( Is that just because I'm not logged in at flickr? If so, screw those bastards. :D

Click on an image you wish to see, the dedicated page for that image loads. Then just above the image click "All Sizes" and you will be able to go up to something like 3000x2000  8)  Thanks for the comments!

I have written my first article for the site CenterNetworks.com - entitled "Social Networking Saved the Internet"!

I would be most thankful if you could give it a look-over and digg it if you like it  :-*

Took a while to come up with, but I'm happy with it :) Thanks all!
