Yup,
that is the one I use...
Now, I only wished it would show a preview of MINIMIZED windows. Hopefully Alexander will implement such a feature in the next version.
I only know of one Alt+Tab replacement utility that actually does it: Winswitch. Unfortunately its development seems to have halted and it is not as polished as TaskSwitchXP:

Hi m_s,
the server has to be installed on the pc that will be remotely controlled; you can then control that pc remotely with a web browser or with the viewer program.
With the server running (just execute server and enter password), the remote control session can be initiated in 2 different ways:

1- by entering in the viewer or browser the IP address and UVNC password of the remote pc
(in this mode if the server is behind a firewall or router, you will need to configure the firewall to accept incoming connections and the router to forward port 5800 to the local IP of the remote pc)

2- with the viewer in "Listen mode"(a special shortcut is created for this purpose during installation), the pc to be controlled can initiate the connection to the viewer by entering the viewer's IP address in  "add client". This is useful if someone is at the pc to be controlled (as when remote assistance is needed).
(if the viewer pc is behind a router/firewall, you will need to forward TCP PORT 5500 to the viewer's local IP address)
If you want to access an unattended remote pc, then use the 1st option.

You have installation and setup instructions here:
http://ultravnc.sour...t/install/index.html
And very useful forum:
http://forum.ultravnc.net/

I have not tried LogMeIn, but as I understand it, the major advantage it has is that there are no router/firewall issues, at the expense of performance (as data travels thru central server as opposed to a direct p2p connection)

Hi,
I use free UltraVNC to provide remote assistance to my friends:
http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/
It has good features and good performance.

Since the UVNC server (450k) can directly connect to the viewer (set to listen mode) on my pc I do not run into problems with their  firewalls/routers restricting inbound connections (and that would require port forwarding otherwise).

Hi all,
I have been looking for alternatives to PerfectMenu and have found a couple of applications that open up a configurable launch menu with a mouse click combo:

1- freeware RunIt which opens a launch menu by right clicking at a selected edge or by shift+right click :
http://www.magister-lex.at/RUNit/
(the stable 2.01 version works better than the 2.1 beta on my pc)

2- shareware MouseLaunch which opens a box with 8 icon slots (drag&drop) with a Left/Right Click combo:
http://www.uinterface.com/mouselaunch
(I found the left/right click combo interferes with StrokeIt though)

Darwin,
thanks for the very interesting YDS tip :-)
I will look DOpus further

Thanks Jeffk,

I checked Directory Opus flat view after reading your post, but it doesn't behave as I would like.
The flat view does not stick, neither can you expand/collapse as you wish the desired folders (the flat view fully expands the selected folder). I would like the flat view to behave in the exact same manner as a regular folder tree.
It seems that only PIM/Outliners do what I want, but alas only for data contained within their DB file :-(

Oh well ...

Thanks all for the suggestions;

I had already checked UltraRecall and Novatix ExplorerPLus (I believe it's from the PowerDesk programmer), but as I said I wished that files were included in the left tree structure.
That would leave far more space to the viewer/editor and facilitate BROWSING.
(I find that dual pane file managers are geared towards file operations instead)
To illustrate my point, let's say you would like to browse thru your bookmarks in Firefox, would you like to have the folder tree in one column with the actual bookmarks in a second column?
To avoid complex tree structures, the tree could be rooted at any desired location and be configured to show only specific file formats.
That is the idea I have in mind.

Hi Mouser,
I just downloaded and tried F&RRobot, and I love it!
I can´t compare right now, but from what I can recall, it does seem to be faster and lighter on resources than KbStart.
Thanks for a great app.

Hi Carol,

I am new around here and I am so glad I run into your post about PerfectMenu; I have wanted for a while to have a program like that.
Now I am waiting to see what Contextmenu Commander is like ;-)

Hi all,
I just discovered forum and it seems the perfect place to ask this question.

I would like to browse thru my documents in the same manner I can browse thru notes in my outliner (Keynote).
Basicly I would like to have a left panel which would show my file structure -including files, not just folders-
Selecting a document/file on that panel would then open a preview of it on the right side; the program does not even need to have a preview engine, it could just be a sidepanel as described, that could be configured to open/close specific fast loading programs to view the documents.

I know that some file managers have document preview, but they never include files in the tree structure.
Is there an application that can do what I want? Perhaps there are technical limitations to what I suggest, I don´t know.

I greatly welcome any suggestions.

 :)

Noel

update:
one more thought:
it would be nice if the side panel could be rooted at a any desired location and even better if it had tabs(or clickable buttons) each rooted as desired. Seeing the whole tree structure is obviously not necessary to browse thru documents held at a specific location.

Hi all,
I am new around here, and there so many interesting topics!
So I have tried Wordeb and I do like it a lot;
now since I also write quite a bit in spanish and french, I wonder if any of you could suggest a similar program for those languages.
Thanks

Hi all,
I just discovered this fantastic web site and am going thru the forums.
Anyway I just noticed this topic and wondered why no one has mentionned KbStart:
http://www.kbstart.com/
Not that I have tried AppRocket, but a while back I read that Kbstart does use fewer resources than Approcket.
