HI. I just installed v116 over v108 and I am happy to report that the FARRfox plugin now works :-)
Thanks Mouser

I am not endorsing Teracopy in any way, but I noticed that it just got upgraded to v1.2:

I like PDF-Xchange, but I have noticed that its cpu and memory usage while scrolling is much, much higher than Foxit's (100MB+ vs 25MB ...)

General Software Discussion / Re: Safari 3 for Windows
« on: June 22, 2007, 01:00 PM »
I am no expert either, and in general pictures saved for web use are in the sRGB colorspace, and should display apropriately in any browser.
In digital photo editing advanced users use wide gamut colorspaces (such as Adobe RGB) but for web purposes convert to sRGB (windows default, since monitors are in general anyway unable to display wider gamuts).
There might be an interest though to post pictures in wide gamut colorspaces in the future as LED backlit wide gamut monitors proliferate.

I am a Firefox fan, but in all fairness it should be pointed out that Safari  is the only windows web browser that fully suports embedded colorprofiles and thus apropriately displays pictures that are not in the sRGB colorspace.

Has anyone compared Altiris SVS, Sandboxie and Bufferzone 's performance hit when running an application installed in their sandbox?

What about Fastcopy: http://www.ipmsg.org...ols/fastcopy.html.en
Does anyone have experience with it?

benchmark I've found with google:

General Software Discussion / Re: Download Managers

I am pretty sure that FreeDownloadManager or Orbit can do what you want (I can´t check right now but I know that at least one of them has a "remember path for this type of file option check").
Both are very nice (they have replaced Flashget in my case)

Hi, for photo work (not graphics or advanced brushwork retouching!) I find Lightzone very easy to use (bit pricy but free on linux):
http://www.lightcraf.../products/index.html

Besides the oviously nice gui, the nice thing about it is that every tool you apply is automatically put on its own layer and you can adjust its settings at any time (as in a PS adjustment layer) or simply remove it; thus there is no Undo/Redo and the editing is 100% non-destructive.
It is a java application so not the speediest but the workflow advantage makes up for it imho.

Hi,
I use Imgbrn for image files and PrassiONEs for everything else. It is lightweight and works very well.

Yes Screamer is great; besides the built-in selection, you can simply drag and drop a web radio link onto it, for instance a shoutcast.com "tunein" button (and add it to favorites also)

Hi,
about #2:

ExifPro is a very nice viewer that does show subfolders.

And IviewMediaPro also does, and uses IPTC/XMP tags, all in a very nice GUI.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Mini-Review: Altiris SVS
« on: January 31, 2007, 09:59 AM »
Hi cthorpe,
thanks for the review, it got me to try SVS; it did seem though to conflict with my Avast AV.
After that I tried Bufferzone, which I would describe as a combination of Altiris SVS and Sandboxie, since you can install programs into Bufferzone´s sandbox or simply run executables in it.
I find it is easier and safer to use (indeed SVS's scope is not sandbox safety but simply clean installs).
There is a freeware version too.

I was wondering whether you have tried it and how you think it compares performance wise. My impression is that it is 1st a bit slow at startup but after that the applications within bufferzone seem to run with little overhead.

Sunbird 0.3 final is getting closer,
and Sun will develop a Thunderbird/Sunbird based PIM for OpenOffice:

General Software Discussion / Re: Calendar software
« on: September 22, 2006, 05:42 PM »
Hi all,
reviving an old thread here ;-)

I personally don´t need a full featured email-calendar program such as Outlook.
In a calendar application I do want the following:
1- iCal Import/Export
2- PPC sync
3- ability to layer/toggle multiple calendars

Epim and Calendarscope are nice but neither can "layer" multiple calendars the way free Sunbird (and TimeCalendar?) does. According to Epim's forums such a feature might be implemented in the Pro version ...

So AFAIK it seems that only Sunbird has all my desired features. Does anyone have experience syncing Sunbird to PPC (or WindowsMobile, especially v5) with either KCal or FinchSync?
http://www.finchsync.com/index.html
http://www.pocketgea..._detail.asp?id=15603
Incidentally FinchSync can apparently also sync Thunderbird contacts (that's what I use) to PPC, so that would serve my sync needs.

Any comments?

 :)

Post New Requests Here / Re: Text editor with good spell checker

Crypt Edit seems more of a wordpad replacement.
QJOT is similar and can spell check with TinySpell:

I believe that Crypt Edit is now PolyEdit:

Hi Carol,
although not a catalog/organization program,
this is a really interesting jpeg-tiff-raw browser/converter with non-destructive 16bit editing (including vectorial selection and layered tools):
http://www.lightcraf.../products/lightzone/

and the linux version is free:

Super Flexible File Synchronizer supports versioning:
http://www.superflexible.com/
So you may want to look into it.

:-)

I am not enthused by Windows' s Copy/Paste, so certainly welcome suggestions for alternatives.
I currently use Ycopy and this Copy Handler seems interesting as it is integrated in the context menu. Is it safe/bugfree to use?

Regarding the OP request I believe that SuperFlexible File Synchronizer can save copies of replaced files (configurable):
