I like Carol's idea. I can also put all the icons into different folders like a folder for games, a folder for installation files, etc.

As you can see with the attached picture, I have a lot of desktop icons. I was hoping that someone had a program that would let me organize my icons between my two monitors. (better than the windows arrange icons by menu you get when you right click on the desktop, when align to grid is on I can't put icons on my second monitor) If someone could help me out here, I would really like that.

p.s. Yeah, its a bad quality image, I shrunk it in paint, to lazy to wait for photoshop to load, the small little program that you see in the bottom middle is at the bottom left of my second monitor.

I can't read that language, but if the run button is there, you should be able to drag it to the desktop, I don't know a whole lot about user privileges, but I do know that school privileges allow you to drag and drop the run button.

Edit: no never mind, I just switched my start menu to the classic menu right quick, and you can't drag it to the desktop in classic, you would have to either use skrommel's run program, or press the windows button and r, or just click start run.

... it can get up to like almost a gig of virtual memory, and like 7 or 8 hundred mb of regular memory, and I wanted to limit this, ...

700 - 1000 MB??!! I too would like to 'limit' such a powersucker; I would never run it! (I don't even have that much RAM.)

If you really wanna keep such a millstone around your neck, my penny would be that you change the Priority in Windows Taskmanager to Below Normal. It won't bring you more RAM, but should give the other apps a chance to do their work anyway, I guess.
I have a gig of ram, and I have a 3g pagefile on my second hard drive. I think I had at one time changed the priority, but I don't think that helped much when it was using almost all my ram, and 300mb of my VM, by then my computer was so slow I was about to pick it up and throw it at the wall.

632  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / limiting memory on: February 27, 2007, 10:27:51 PM
I was wondering if some one knew of a program that would limit the amount of memory and virtual memory a program is allowed to use? I have a program that I run, and it can get up to like almost a gig of virtual memory, and like 7 or 8 hundred mb of regular memory, and I wanted to limit this, that way maybe I can use my computer more better. Please and thank you.

It's just something messed up with your computer, I am able to do it here at school also, and at school I have like no privleges on the computer, other than surf the internet ( some restrictions apply), and open programs.
634  DonationCoder.com Software / Skrommel's Software / Re: Run on: February 24, 2007, 12:28:02 PM
Yeah that might have something to do with it. Im using my personal home computer with an admin account because I am to lazy to make a user account. I should try it at school on monday and see if I can do it there, I have like no privileges at school.
635  DonationCoder.com Software / Skrommel's Software / Re: Noise on: February 24, 2007, 12:25:40 PM
Im using the ultramon screensaver, I wouldn't think it would mess up with that, it doesn't look for any special keystrokes. I dunno, I'll have to switch to the default one right quick and see if it works.

637  DonationCoder.com Software / Skrommel's Software / Re: Run on: February 23, 2007, 09:48:20 PM
all that run prog that skrommal made was hit win + r. I have successfully made a shortcut to the run dialog using windows xp home edition SP2, and using windows xp pro SP2. Just drag and drop the run dialog in the start menu to the desktop, it should work, thats what I did.
638  DonationCoder.com Software / Skrommel's Software / Re: Noise on: February 23, 2007, 09:44:06 PM
the only thing I have running that does that is ultramon, but I didn't have 2 monitors running when I had used the program, at the time I didn't have any thing running that did anything with the screen saver.
639  DonationCoder.com Software / Skrommel's Software / Run on: February 23, 2007, 04:25:33 PM
I was just looking at your program called run, the one that opens the run dialog box. If you hold down the right mouse button on the run button in the start menu, and then drag it to the desktop, or the quick launch thing(the one on the start bar), then it will let you put a shortcut to the run dialog, I don't know if this only works with windows xp or not. Just drag it to your quick launch, and then you got a quick run dialog. Works with the search button too.
640  DonationCoder.com Software / Skrommel's Software / Noise on: February 23, 2007, 04:20:14 PM
What exactly does noise do? I downloaded it, and then typed in a letter into the box, and then I walked away, and then came back to my computer a while later, and nothing was opened, and nothing looked different on my computer, and my screen saver was on. I don't understand what this program does.
641  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: virtual install on: February 21, 2007, 10:06:26 PM
from what I have heard flash drives can only be written to so many times and then they stop working. I haven't had this happen to me yet, but I guess it would be possible.
642  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: virtual install on: February 21, 2007, 01:49:21 PM
Thats what I was thinking, but if you were able to make the program able to run off a flash drive (export the registry files, and use a config file to point them to it) then you would I guess be able to export all you layers, and then put the program onto a difrent computer and then you would be able to have all of your programs with you at all times.

644  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: virtual install on: February 19, 2007, 09:42:58 PM
Grin wow, I was reading up on this program some more, and it just came to me, that if you were to reinstall windows, and install this program, and then install all of your programs in this, then that would save time in the future if you need to reinstall windows. all of your files are all ready installed, all you have to do is make sure you archive them before you reinstall windows, then just import them into this program, and then you have all of your programs back. Plus that would keep your registry clean, because you could keep all of your programs deactivated while not using them... I am just thinking about this, it is not something that I would for sure do, but is sounds pretty cool, I just would love it if I could put this program on my flash drive, and run it from that. that would make any program portable... I think.

646  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: virtual install on: February 19, 2007, 05:34:23 PM
So I would be able to possibly put Altris on my usb flash drive, and put my exported layer on it also, and then put my drive in another computer and use it? I may have to try that.
647  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: virtual install on: February 19, 2007, 07:05:01 AM
Well after I posted this, I got it to install, I can't use vmware because I don't have an os install disk, and sandboxie doesn't give me the registry files. SVS halfway works, it does all that I want, but it doesn't let you take the program with you, and put it on a different computer very well.
648  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / virtual install on: February 18, 2007, 10:07:09 PM
Hello, I was looking for a program that would allow me to install a program inside of it, and then the program would store all the registry files, and application files inside of it. A program that I did find was Altiris(R) Software Virtualization Solution(TM) 2.0, but it wont install on my computer for some reason, so I was wondering if some one could tell me another program that would do that. Here is the information of  the program I found.
