What you want can't be done yet.. but I will try to add it.
Thanks, I realize it would take a little sleight of code.

The only quick tip to remind you of as a workaround is that to quickly rename the current file from the main window just change the filename in the filename edit field at the very bottom and hit enter.
And very useful that field is, too — I use it! The memo beneath can be made to show the caption text, which can be copy/pasted as the file name. Then again, why waste a second on what the computer can do in a nanosecond?  Wink

28  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: Question about post-capture file naming on: March 29, 2013, 10:53:00 AM
So your question is about auto-naming the file right? You want the FILENAME to contain the custom comment you type into the post-capture dialog, is that right? (that's not currently possible but it's something i could try to add).

Or is there something else you're trying to do as well?

I would like the file name AND the caption to be identical.
AND I would like both to be automatically generated.
I would like the automatically generated material to be based on the custom comment from the post-capture pop-up plus whatever else is set in the file naming template (in my case that's %description% and a custom date string).

I wasn't asking if you would add this (though it would be nice if you could). My question was based on the assumption that I had missed something in the current options.

I'm being very very lazy here - I can just copy the sub-string that I want from the file memo and paste that as the file name.

Also, I note that SC still doesn't make me a cup of tea!

29  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Question about post-capture file naming on: March 28, 2013, 03:44:53 PM
I have a question about automatic file names and automatic captions in SC4.

This is where I'm at...

(I'm using a custom date string of %b-%y)

Default new filename field has:
%description% %customdate%

Automatic captions has:
%description% %customdate%

Post Capture - Actions has:
Add caption to image checked

Post-capture pop-up form has:
If custom comment...add a caption for it checked

So, if I grab a shot from "BBCeditor" and add "Baffled" in the post-caption pop-up field (because I am)
I get a caption of: Baffled BBCeditor Mar-13
and a file name of: BBCeditor Mar-13 (no "Baffled")

Is there any way for SC naming to use the comment added in the post-capture pop-up, in the same way that the captioning does?
In other words, I'd like the caption and the name to be identical, each using whatever I type into the post-capture comment field.

Any help  would be appreciated — but make it fast, they don't let me out of the rubber room all that often.

So, this Wilma is not this Wilma:
  (see attachment in previous post)

Huh, no WiLMA is not Wilma but what can you do with a program whose instructions are so opaque, viz. "The right arrow key can be used to jump to the next result… "
What would happen if one were to press the wrong arrow key?

I've sort of tried Actual Window Manager, but I was overwhelmed by the tabs and tabs of options. The other recommendations in this post just don't fill the bill, so when I'm more human I will investigate AWM.
My solution to that is just to ignore the bits I don't need  Grin

What about Displayfusion 5?

You could try out Actual Window Manager or Actual Multiple Monitors at www.actualtools.com.

I'm not affilated with them but I use and like AWM and the author is responsive.

Luck!

That's not a bug.
Go to the automatic captions tab in options and on the right you will see the setting that says where to put the caption :

Oops!  embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed

Sorry  Sad

Now, I'd like to tell it where to put the caption, but it wouldn't be altogether polite…

First caption inserted (incorrectly) automatically.
Second caption applied through Objects/add caption (correctly positioned)

Oh... a MUST have for your car - wheel spinner knob:
They make sharp turns fast & almost instant.

If you don't have one... GET one! It might take a little bit to get used to, but you will LOVE it!
I have something like this on my tractor.
I don't do a lot of high-speed turns on that (it tends to tear up the yard a bit when there's no ice around  Wink) but the spinner facilitates reversing trailers into tight spots.

you can't always stop the car safely in sufficient time to let them get out of the car to do it

The old London taxi cabs were a good bet. They had a trap door in the floor at the back.

Might it be useful to have an option to change the captured file name to whatever is the caption?

Might be nice to have an option for that.. something like "use initial X characters of custom comment as filename"..
Sounds good, if anyone else thinks it might be useful.
Since I can't count much beyond, um... 11, would there be an 'all' option or would entering an oversized number get the whole caption e.g. 'This is my caption' -> use the first 100 characters -> 'This is my caption'
49  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: What buttons should be in Screenshot Captor post-capture dialog? on: February 24, 2013, 07:25:52 PM
You're a fast worker!

Works well for me at adding a caption.
I'd forgotten about the pop-up option but that's quite a handy way to set a caption.

There's so much available in SC that I have the feeling that I never use more than about 30% of its capability. (Yes, I watched the movies.)
Might it be useful to have an option to change the captured file name to whatever is the caption?
