How come its only now that the truth about webkit emerges,after so many bug-ridden years?

http://news.cnet.com...dden-house-in-order/

http://blog.methvin....-webkit-commons.html

Will Opera magically improve Webkit and allow everyone else to reap the benefits ?
Somehow I really doubt it.  IMO webkit was just an excuse to dump the Presto team.

Target ,

Is WSOD linked to graphics card type : ATI or Nvidia ?
I guess its antimalware - graphic driver interaction, esp Nvidia.
I think it may not happen with ATI cards.

Re: Can one successfully bring a multi-page tiff into a word processor?

If OCR is not reqd, directly adding a TIFF file via Word import menu is possible but one may have to resize the tiff image inside the doc/docx to fit the page size(A4 , etc.)

These products use OCR/other components to convert to doc/docx or xls/xlsx or other Office formats:
Nuance PDF Converter Pro, FineReader Pro OCR , Nitro Pro OCR edition etc.

Ska

37
Maybe Universal Document Converter 5.5 would help(compatible w/Office 2013) - it converts pdf into image files(multiple pages will be correctly handled if you choose tiff format)- UDC does NOT convert pdf to doc/docx files.

OR, you may try Abby products:
Finereader Pro OCR :http://finereader.abbyy.com/about_ocr/whatis_ocr/
Screenshot reader : http://www.abbyy.com/screenshot_reader/

Not to be confused with Newsbin Pro software, Newzbin was considered the premier usenet search engine(the Google of Usenet),they wrote the original specs for nzb file format:  http://www.newsgroup.../newzbin-review.html

Though there are other search engines, Newzbin will be missed:

General Software Discussion / Alternative to Linkman
« on: November 28, 2012, 11:45 PM »
In both IE9 and Opera12.11 Linkman/its toolbar does not save links,ie. nothing happens no add bookmark window shows up at all, and if it does its always empty (no URL is automatically copied in).

Only workaround (80% success) : I must first select-then-rightclick-copy each  URL in addressbar of each browser, then rightclick linkman icon in traybar, next left-click "add & edit bkmk from browser" -then it works , but only 80% of the time. I am now fed up of these extra steps to add just one URL.

With even one( or more than one) tab open in either browser, it never adds the correct tab link(it can't seize URL of tab in focus), and many times I keep seeing the earlier url that I manually copied, in the add bookmark window ie. in rare cases where I do see an add bookmark window its mostly blank or has the earlier URL copied by me persisting for ever.

Linkman's Opera addon toolbar(extension) in Opera at right top of browser window never works for me (inspite of reinstalling it so many times), what works is only rightclick from trayicon(80% of the time), same in IE9.  Have scanned & checked for malware with variety of tools - nothing detected. I have no other problems with any other software on this system.

Have reinstalled Linkman Pro many times, but no use.
My system : Vista Business 32bit with EsetAV 4.x latest ,MBAM with protection & web disabled, IE9 & all latest Windows updates.

Did email support with screenshots but never got any resolution to this.

Can anyone suggest alternative bookmark software (not cloud) that works seamlessly with IE9, Opera and maybe Firefox & Chromium/Chrome ? Something similar to Powermarks would be great.

Thanks for suggestions,
Ska

Living Room / Re: Anything wrong with formatting a USB stick in NTFS?
« on: November 21, 2012, 04:28 AM »
I found USB Safely Remove to be much better (stable) than Zentimo on Vista Business 32-bit, Zentimo hangs with errors , but USBSR worked smoothly since last 2 years, on same flash drives/external drives(USB 2.0/3.0) .

Hard drives (2.5 or 3.5") in USB enclosures are far more reliable than flash/pen drives/"sticks", esp. if the former (external hard drives) have their own power supply(ac adapter etc)

My guess: All pendrives (even 16/32/64/128/256GB versions) are not so reliable as they rely on USB socket(2.0/3.0) for power,so a (heat) glitch in motherboard (whether desktop or laptop) could affect your data. So one is forced to have multiple devices for backup, of which I recommend at least one external powered drive.

exFAT file system(Microsoft): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955704
-Supports volumes larger than 32 GB, Theoretical max volume size 64 ZB,
  recommended max volume size is 512 TB.
-Supports files larger than 4 GB, Theoretical max file size 64 ZB, recommended max file size 512 TB.

Living Room / Re: Is my pen-drive performing okay?
« on: September 22, 2012, 11:07 AM »
In yr last picture I see no MiB yes i see it now MiB =megabytes.

1 mebibyte (MiB) = 1,024 KB = 1,024^2 B =  1,048,576 Bytes

The case of second character may indicate different things -
--- megabits written as Mb - the small case second character b indicates bits
--- megabytes written as MB - the big case  second character B indcates Bytes

For data transfer speed(network)     For storage          For flash/RAM memory ?
Kb = kilobits                                  KB = kilobytes       ?
Mb = megabits                              MB = megabytes    ?
Gb = gigabits                                GB = gigabytes      ?

ofcourse many people mix up kB,Kb, and KB or mB, Mb, and MB.
I maybe wrong -just saw this :
http://superuser.com...lobit-and-a-kilobyte
