Living Room / Re: Jeans pocket - the square-ish one on the right
« on: November 26, 2010, 11:09 AM »
Most of my jeans have this square-ish pocket, inside the round-ish one which you use to put your keys, money, hands. They all seem to have it inside the right outer pocket. I don't think I've ever used that little pocket. What's it for?

I use this tiny pocket every now and again, mainly for small bank receipts that i dont want to throw them away.  I fold them up to a small enough size to fit then place them in there.

I only do this because if i find paper in my pocket, i don't generally check before I throw everything in the bin!

Hmm, so now ad-bots are starting to make a handful of posts to become accepted? - and then they throw in the link? Or is johnmash an underpaid poor sod who try to make a living? Who can tell?
Indeed - looking at his posts, he's either a spambot... or somebody who has nothing useful to contribute.

Or a spambot that has nothing usefull to contribute! (Most spambots contribute nothing interesting lol)

This sounds interesting. Can you give us some technical details?

What tech details do ya want?

Cant give you anything like reccomended system specs as of yet because im upgrading all the graphics to something 1/2 decent, rather than my 2007 attempt at 3D haha

It would be nice to be able to get a look at the experimental design document for this study.

Same.

PCWorld aint the best of sources, but the headline slightly interested me, so I thought it might do the same here...seems I got my desired result

Sounds cool. How do you sign up to help test and stuff?

Just post your intent to help on here, and lemme know what you can help out with.  The more people who can help, the better this game will be on its release!

DC Gamer Club / [Unreleased] {Project 363} Ethios Online :: Info
« on: November 25, 2010, 04:51 PM »
Hey guys, I would like to introduce to you an upcoming MMORPG.

The game itself, is currently called Project 363 but will be called 'Ethios Online'  upon its release.

Current Features (Approximatly 6 month from private alpha):

 - Fully 3D World, Textures, Skins, Scenery
 - 100+ Monsters
 - 12 Playable Characters
 - 120 Skills to Learn
 - Mountable Creatures (Horse, Pony, Dragon)
 - In Game Fishing (To catch fish to be used for trading)
 - Full Trade System
 - Great Leveling System
 - 15 Quests (Unsure if the ones we have at current will be in final game, used only for testing as of now, we may expand them to keep them)
 - In game chat with alliance chat, zone chat, private chat, and global chat
 - And Much, Much more...

Introduction:

Immerce yourself into this massive MMORPG, feel your surroundings, battle with players and monsters alike, choose your alliance, and battle to become the strongest in the game.

Within the game you will find thousands of unique items, armours, weapons and other cool stuff to use, and trade with.

No matter whether you decide you want to be a Human, Dragon, Gnome, Elf, Mage or any of the other characters, each has its own strengths and weaknesses to keep the game completely fair.

The 'never-ending' enviroment will keep you guessing whats around the next corner, and with client based updates, you need never worry about running the latest version, as it will automatically download, install, and update with one click of the button.

F.A.Q

Is the game going to cost?

Current plans are to release the game as a possible subscription based service, however, this could change at any time, and if we do decide to go subscription based, anybody who has helped with ideas (desnt matter if we implement them, just so long as they are good) will receive a lifetime account for free on the game.  Also, anybody who is a DC supporting member (Somebody who has donated to DC) will receive the same benefits purely for being a part of the community.

Will the game be 'Pay to be stronger' (Item Shop) based?

Simply, no,  We do not intend to have an item shop at any stage as this can create a massive unbalance in gameplay.  The only thing that has been mentioned in regards to this is to have basic items for sale that will not affect your in-game strength (Such as armours and weapons with custom logos for your alliance and such).

When is the proposed release date?

Currently we have no definate release date as we are still working out quite a few major bugs within the game.  Once we have fixed these bugs, and get back to work making the maps even bigger, and the storyline even longer and more fun, then we can think about how close we are to private alpha testing.  Once we have been through private alpha, we can give a dealine for the public release date for open beta.  As it stands, I would suggest we are about 6 months from private alpha, but cannot be held by that assumption as anything could happen between now and then.

How many people are involved in the project?

There are currently 4 of us involved with this project.  Myself, my fiancé (who does our graphical art on paper, ready to be turned into cool 3D models), and 2 testers (1 of which is going to be dealing, mainly with our website).

Do you accept public contributions of artwork/ideas?

Yes, any ideas/artwork you want to show us, and perhaps have placed in game (and your name on the credits if your items are selected) will be much appreciated.  We will be releasing guidelines very soon as to how you should submit these, and what you should use to create 3D models and such.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask!

(Screenshots to follow)

I am going to reserve a few slots under this post, so I can post updates, screenshots, etc...

As far as the MMORPG project, you could start with developing the world and going towards single player in a smaller project to make the engine and such... then move onto the larger project as you get support and help behind your work.

No real need, ive settled on creating an MMORPG through a game engine using a project I was working on a few years back.  Graphics aint beautiful as im limited to what I can do by myself, but all in all, using this project I started awhile ago, I have a working server, and client, not much you can do in the game at the moment, but im going to be listing the full details soon in the DC Gamer Club section.

So, from my viewpoint, it maybe okay for non-sensitive, non-critical material.[/list]
    -cranioscopical (November 23, 2010, 08:29 AM)

Agreed.  Theres NO way in hell that I would trust anybody else, with something i deem to be highly critical data, no matter what it is.  I will always look for a desktop option, and if there isnt one, I won't do what I need to do.

This, I suppose, is mainly because you can never fully guarantee that if you upload a file, to have something done to it, whether or not the web developer stores these files for any reason.

Living Room / Wi-Fi Makes Trees Sick!
    « on: November 23, 2010, 10:29 AM »
Radiation from Wi-Fi networks is harmful to trees, causing significant variations in growth, as well as bleeding and fissures in the bark, according to a recent study in the Netherlands.

All deciduous trees in the Western world are affected, according to the study by Wageningen University. The city of Alphen aan den Rijn ordered the study five years ago after officials found unexplained abnormalities on trees that couldn't be ascribed to a virus or bacterial infection.

Additional testing found the disease to occur throughout the Western world. In the Netherlands, about 70 percent of all trees in urban areas show the same symptoms, compared with only 10 percent five years ago. Trees in densely forested areas are hardly affected.

Ah, now you see, I never specifically said I would do these on my own ;) I am mearly wondering which is the best route to take, as im sick of project switching.

I am honestly more of a team leader/ideas person than anything else, so actually sitting down to finish a project myself, without getting distracted by 200 things has become difficult.

And in answer to your questions, im employed and no super mutant :P

Living Room / Decision making time.
    « on: November 22, 2010, 12:25 AM »
Over the past 7 days I have been looking at what my skills are, and where I want to go with them.

So far, I have aquired a good few life skills, and can develop almost any website I want to and have been looking into programming, but theres still a few other things I want to do.  The two main ones are as follows:

    Create a MMORPG
    Create Poker Client/Server Software

I know these may seem like large projects, but thats because i want them to be.

I need something that I can dive into and spend my time on, rather than doing 2% of a project, moving onto another and doing 2% of that and not seeing those projects for months cause I keep moving to something else.

I am literally SICK of project jumping, and want to do something that will eat my spare time.

I honestly feel like its time for me to stop thinking about how many things I want to do, and focus all my time and energy on one thing, no matter how long that thing takes, whether that be 1 month, or 2 years.

lol awesome photo, but with in 30 seconds, i found a few editing mistakes.

When you load the software, look straight down to see the construction site, then move left up a road where there is an ambulance, 2 taxis, and a red bus, zxoom in near the taxis and look at the shop 'Foyles for Books'

The people outside this shop must be ghosts as they have sunk into the pavement, and one has no legs! (Im sure, with another 30 seconds, i could find some more)

Also, theres a double up of the woman in the orange jumper and black skirt.

    London Mistake.png

(And yes, im one of these people who get bored when on google street view and find as many errors as I can lol

Just because I found the mistakes, doesnt mean I do not appreciate the time, effort and skill thats gone into this project, and think it is amazing.

I kinda like thier style...not thier website...but thier style.

Everywhere you look on thier site, there are sly little digs which are aimed (without specifically saying it) at google lol

Search the web from your couch without having to zoom in. Yippy Wii has been carefully designed from the ground up to address the issues we've discovered while browsing web sites with our Wii. Once you've entered your search terms, just click "OK" from the full-screen Wii keyboard and Yippy will process your query immediately without needing an additional click on the "Search" button. Point and click with confidence with large target areas for both search results and clouds!

It also chooses NOT to collect ANY results from Google:

(These are the details of where it pulled in data from with the keyword "google" {was trying to see if they blocked it lol})
