All I could find was a setting in Options>Compatibilty tab:

Don't expand character spaces on the line ending Shift-Return

which is only for lines ending in a manual line return.  Lines ending in an EndParagraph mark should automatically not full justify.

This is actually a trick to force full justification of the last line (use a manual line end).  Doesn't address your problem at all, sorry.

... the last short line of a paragraph across the whole page...

There's a setting to prevent the last line in a fully justified paragraph from doing that.  I could find it in Word 2002 if that would help.

Is there really an end-paragraph marker (pilcrow) at the end of the paragraph, or is it a manual line-break, which brings different behavior?

When tabs act like that, it's often because one is using tabs two different ways at the same time.

If you don't put tab stops in the ruler, the tabs default to a certain number of spaces.

If you use the tab stops, the tabs will align accordingly.

If you use the tab stops but put in extra tab characters, things don't appear as expected.

When setting things up with tabs, I always display formatting marks so I can see where the tab characters are (the little arrows).

The other thing that can affect tabs is where the right and left margins are, but if you display formatting all tab behavior should be, well, well behaved.

129
Put a left tab stop in the ruler at the top, all the way to the left.
Put a right tab stop all the way to the right.

Put an actual tab character before the "one" and another before the "two".

The first will align the "one" to the left and the second will align the "two" to the right.

(second image shows formatting marks)

If you are doing multiple lines, when you hit the Return key to start a new line (paragraph), the tab stops will be created in the subsequent line (paragraph).

This is one way to do columns in Word, handy for short ones.

Living Room / Re: Can you read this?

This actually was pretty startling.  As soon as I stopped trying to decipher the words and instead just ran my eyes along the same way I do reading normally, the speed picked up to 99% normal.

Interesting brain stuff.

As this is to a large extent about allocating resources, I defer to Mouser, whose judgment in these matters is far better informed than mine.  Once he's heard the pros and cons, I'll go with what he thinks.

This:
Yes. Dropbox employees can't access the file's contents. ....  The only exceptions are the executive staff who have a vested interest the company.
makes this:
"Dropbox employees aren't able to access user files"

a lie.

Try telling the IRS that any executive staff, whether or not they are officers of the corporation, whether or not they own stock or have any other vested interest, are not employees of the corporation.

Coding Snacks / Re: Changing a folder's name text colour
« on: April 14, 2011, 11:09 AM »
I would like what exact command must introduce in the registry to change the color and background text of a folder or file.....
It might be worth asking this in the AutoHotkey forum.

135
What AddressBook do you use?

136
dunno, but you can get clever with the two size filters...

137
Get a copy of Window Spy from the Autohotkey site.  It will give you the ahk_class of any window you hover the mouse over, including the kind of not "proper" windows you are talking about.

You can then use the ahk_class name in the include or exclude list of DialogMove.

138
FF with 10+ extensions is near unusable, wish I knew how anybody has 50 or so
40 (according to one of my extensions, Mr Tech Toolkit  ;)), and things seem to work pretty well.

139
Of course, the same applies to lots of other popup windows and dialogs
Take a look at the Include and Exclude subroutines in the original script.

If you wanted to include or exclude certain dialog boxes from going to the center of the proper screen, you could probably do that.  (I don't have a dual monitor setup so I'm not going to look into the details.)

If you want a warning beforehand: install Stylish ...

Or Link Alert

Probably a bit of an exaggeration to say I couldn't live without DialogMove, but I would find it most aggravating.

What nudone said, re a bit of tweaking.  I have several dozen dialogs listed as "always move" or "never move", but I also found the two settings for dialog box sizes very handy.  At the moment I can't remember why one is set almost square (anything less than 410 x 451) and one long and skinny (anything less than 1280 x 160), but I remember at the time that this fixed all the quirks in my setup.

One hallmark of a stable program is that once set up you seldom have to think about it anymore.  WAY TO GO JGPAIVA!!!!!

Doesn't seem to work on non-installed fonts though.

There's a button to select the folder (From Folder).  I copied one of my fonts to a different folder, selected that one with the  button, and only that font was displayed.

But it was an installed font (I don't have any uninstalled ones), so I don't know if that will make a difference.

Second that.

You are still going to have to take your hand off the mouse in order to type your note.  So leave the mouse where it was, hit your hotkey, which starts your script.  The script remembers which window was active when it was started, so after typing when you exit your note you are easily returned to your original active window just before the script ends.

I tried to make something in autohotkey to do this but I never managed anything usable.

Did you get stuck on the mouse activation (which we are suggesting you discard)?  Did you get something useable in the way of opening, editing, and saving your note file?  If so, try starting (and perhaps exiting) that with a hotkey, and look into the autohotkey ActiveWindow commands.

I have no quibble with any of the logic here (can't say that very often about a conversation, except maybe around here).

I do think the question of choice is quite important, but in the real world there's often little or no choice about things that happen, and perhaps only some choice about how to deal with those things after the fact.
