N.A.N.Y. 2015 / Re: NANY 2015 Release: WhenLast (Android app)
« on: January 06, 2015, 02:32 AM »
I listed the apps on the google play store to purchase for 99 cents.  I decided to try that instead of listing them for free -- most of the time free in these app stores seems to mean covered in ads, so I thought 99 cents might be a cleaner approach.

Thanks you gave me direction.

All these 'store' has made rotten the concept of 'free'. In most cases the user is paying through his nose in mobile connection for ads or in-app purchase to get one more feature.

We programmers who have been releasing 'free' apps in pure literal sense, now have to face questions from the users. They bracket us in same league.

Though I still do not have a Android phone/pad etc. (she is not allowing me), but I will follow your path for store and allow free from my site.

N.A.N.Y. 2015 / NANY 2015 Release: Delete After Days
« on: December 31, 2014, 09:58 AM »
NANY 2015 Entry Information

Application Name Delete After Days
Version 2.0.0
Short Description Drag and drop files into the basket to delete them after given days.
Supported OSes WinXp and above
Web Page https://sites.google...ite/deleteafterdays/
Download Link https://sites.google...teafterdays/download

Description
I download many files for work, leisure and checking purposes. Many times I do not get time to check them and they just occupy space in the download folder. When I feel like, I delete them on older file dates. Now some of the download though done today (say), show the original zip/exe date, which may be six months old or maybe some years old.

So the deletion as per file date deletes the ones which I may have download last week.

I needed something where I can mark the files to auto delete after few days, months etc. So I do not have to worry on my folder filling up with old files, as I mostly copy the work related files to their respective folders.

I searched and found there are many who are searching for the same, but till date MS also did not respond.

I made "Delete After Days".

Features
Drag and drop files on the icon on the desktop. It will prompt you for days after which they will be deleted. The files remain where they are and you can copy / move them. If left for more than specified days, they get deleted, automatically.

Screenshots
dragdrop.png
More screen shots at https://sites.google...terdays/screen-shots

Usage
Installation
To install, extract the zip file in a folder, say "Delete After Days", and run the "Delete After Days" exe.

N.A.N.Y. 2015 / Re: NANY 2015 Pre-release: Active Text Notes
« on: December 22, 2014, 01:41 AM »
wraith808, Ath, mouser thanks.

IainB, ATN will not be Samurize.

It's purpose is to display a text file, which is generated by single or multiple exe, from batch file, run by ATN at given interval, in a non-intrusive manner.

The said text file can also be manually maintained instead of by an exe.

There are few more features in the plan and may be some fixes required, but I am planning one more app before the close of 2014, so not working on ATN as of now. Will take up all next year.

Thanks for the encouragements.

Regards,

Anand

N.A.N.Y. 2015 / NANY 2015 Release: Active Text Notes
« on: December 19, 2014, 03:34 AM »
NANY 2015 Entry Information

Application Name Active Text Notes
Version 1.0.0
Short Description Display text from a generated text file in a non-interactive mode
Supported OSes WinXp and above
Web Page https://sites.google...activetextnotes/home
Download Link https://sites.google...vetextnotes/download

Description
We already have many electronic post-it-notes like notes for our computer. Most work just like paper paper version. Well they do most of the job, we normally require from them. They act as a static object, the text of which are added/ edited by us manually.

Well I needed similar desktop note but active. I wanted it to show the text content from a text file. The text file will get altered either manually by me or from another program. Not a big deal here. Well I wanted more. I want the note to run the program generate the text and display it. But, it should not disturb me. It should do it's work silently and update the text on the note on the desktop. I will, when I feel like, will glance at it to get the information.

My free app "Overlap Wallpaper" gave me an idea. I made Active Text Note, which is similar to it, but shows a text file content.

Features
Active Text Note runs a given program and displays the output text file on the desktop. We can display directory listing of a network folder, auto backup log file text, latest text info. from a url etc.
I made few helper programs for downloading url, html to text conversion, text extraction etc.

Screenshots
https://sites.google...xtnotes/screen-shots

Usage
Installation
To install, extract the zip file in a folder, say "Active Text Notes", and run the "Active Text Notes" exe.
To uninstall, right click on tray icon of "Active Text Notes" and select 'Exit'. Then delete all files in the "Active Text Notes" folder and remove the "Active Text Notes" folder.

Using the Application
In settings option set the program to run and the text file name to be read. You can leave program name blank.

Hi questorfla,

I did few work on MS and My Sql for some odd project. I had one database without password and was having trouble to login into the database from the script code. I could login from the Admin console.

Then I added a password to the database and used it in the script. Everything works OK now.

Looks like the password is needed from the script or there is some other way to send the blank password which I do not know. Anyway I hope my experience may show some light to you.

Finished Programs / Re: Frameless.exe
« on: November 30, 2014, 09:08 AM »
Well I did some research on it. All below allows boaderless image show.

1. Overlap Wallpaper allows png alpha transparency, but do not have multiple file reload from folder option. Also no gif animation. No command line.

2. Frameless allows png alpha transparency, but do not have multiple file reload from folder option. But it has gif animation, but without the transparency. Also has command line

3. ImageOpen (googled and downloaded) has slide show of multiple file reload from folder option but without the transparency. Also no command line.

So you see all has some feature missing and not fully as required by you.

Either anyone gets updated or you may google and find the one that has all features.

I do not promise now for updating Overlap Wallpaper as too busy with project works.

Anand

Hi bandit012345,

I do not know what exactly you want, but you can display a frameless png/gif with transparency on desktop using my freeware app Overlap Wallpaper https://sites.google...te/overlapwallpaper/ , no animation though.

See if it fits the bill.

Living Room / Google Glass dead, already ?
« on: November 19, 2014, 06:34 AM »
I read the reuters and other news on it, http://www.computerw...glass-isnt-dead.html

Well I will be very sad if it happens. I was waiting for 'glass' to be pocket friendly, like Android phones now.

People may have other vision for the glass, but I had my own plans.

Since I am a programmer, I was planning to change the view I get of my surrounding as per my preferences. I live in a busy city where dust and rush is way of life. So,

1. When I am at home, my wife looks always 'smiling' to me. Well it is not much work for Photoshop to do it on the fly on the glass. The voice may be threatening, but we can ignore it.

2. My room, looks all 'clean-up'. In fact I should see myself using my laptop near a water fall in Japan. On a beach in Spain will also do.

3. When I go to work, my transport bus should be swanky clean and all the people around me should look smiling and beautiful.

4. Well the list is endless, with my side walk all greens etc.

Please Google, make glass affordable, and leave rest to us programmers.

Anand

Post New Requests Here / Re: Power Cord Falling Out
« on: October 31, 2014, 11:16 AM »
After I got my first laptop with Win 8, I was finding it problematic to keep tab of the battery status from the tray bar battery, all in white. It did not change color to indicate full or low battery.

A search brought to Battery Delay. Well now I get message every 10th % status and I am happy with it.

« on: October 17, 2014, 07:49 AM »
WOW! People have already started standing on two sides for this 'driverless cars'.

Well this reminds me when Apple first announced 'IPad' technology. People will be people and corporates will make money.

Well I am more concern about 'programer-less NANY'. GOD save me, if it happens.

I have been using it for a long time. It has helped me a lot in transferring text to my mobile (Nokia 5230, non IOS or Android), via QR reader.

I transfer big text of SMS (festival, birthday etc. wishes) from searched sites, url of a site to check in mobile browser etc. I found it much master to type my required text in the QR box and then QR read it in my mobile.

Really a time saver.

Anand

N.A.N.Y. 2015 / Re: NANY Q&A about what software can be submitted
« on: October 09, 2014, 04:07 AM »
Yes that is the irony.

I, myself think of NANY from January but do not start coding till October / November, in fear I may release it and it may become invalid for NANY.

It is true NANY should be for new apps, in fact most forums and websites gives special mention to NANY. But we should also make another, like mouser suggested "See Also", to add those released in that year.

This way programmer like me, may start earlier and save some of their hairs. But they must make one 'unpublished' app at the end of the year.

Well those are my points, others may have better suggestions.

Regards,

Anand

As an idea, I use http://www.resoph.com/ ResophNotes, with http://simplenote.com/ Simplenote integration. I save files in txt format, so that I can have my data back, even if any one of the above does not work, for some reason.

It has good search and tagging options.

Though requirement may vary, I am quite satisfied with it.

May be some program running in tray is doing it.

Try safe mode and check.

Try closing programs in tray one by one and check. Also check in task manager for any non-standard program.

I like the idea of a special 10th Anniversary Mug.

Perhaps it could feature a drawing of Cody with a long beard and walking with a cane, showing his age.  ;D

Hello !

Cody is just 10 years old. What is he carrying a cane for ?
