51  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Why do unzip apps have to be so complicated? on: August 06, 2007, 05:10:20 PM
Associating Smart Unpack with the doubleclicking is the best thing for me at the moment.  I got the idea from the new setting available in ALZip.

To get the DEP problem I rightclicked & selected Open since I haven't added Smart Unpack to my context menu.

The refresh & "copy name to clipboard" work fine & I needed that functionality for the first archive I used it in.  Thanx so much!

Well, even when I disabled Windows Explorer in the DEP settings, DEP is still intercepting Windows Explorer when running Smart Unpack with 2 files.
53  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Why do unzip apps have to be so complicated? on: August 04, 2007, 06:58:24 PM
There was no option (using XP?) but based on your suggestion I did some research & found the tab under System Properties.  Thanx.  I've disabled DEP for Windows Explorer.  I would have thought DEP would be smarter than this.  I doubt there is much difference between opening 1 or 2 files.
54  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Maxthon 2 Released on: August 04, 2007, 06:29:39 PM
Speed isn't a problem for me but I've had memory issues.  I opened nothing but a MySpace page the other day & saw my memory instantly jump by 300MB.  Maxthon has a fantastic online forum.  I was going to ask about the problem there, however my Windows install is a couple years old & I'm not convinced M2 is the problem.  I'm hoping to reinstall Windows in a couple weeks.

It's still the best browser, for me anyhow.

Also, some may be interested to know that you can use the Gecko engine with M1.  I don't think this has been implemented with M2, at least not yet.
55  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Why do unzip apps have to be so complicated? on: August 04, 2007, 05:41:01 PM
When I select 2 zip files & right click then select Open I get this error:

Data Execution Prevention
To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program:  Windows Explorer

Is there any way to avoid this?
56  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Maxthon 2 Released on: August 04, 2007, 05:29:32 PM
What I love about M2 is that it disables things like flash for all tabs except the active tab.  Very useful for sites like YouTube.  You can open a dozen video pages but the video will not play until that tab is activated.

MAXTHON RULES!!!!

Wow!  Sorry, I'm late.  Wish I saw this thread when it first came out. Kiss

Thanx wr975.

In the script, is it possible to incorporate a Refresh of the Explorer window after extracting single file archives to counter the file invisibility problem?

Did everybody associate the script with each filetype, 1 by 1, or is there an easier way to do this? Angry

Sometimes the name of the archive file is more appropriate than the name of the folder/file that has been extracted (hereto referred to as the extractees). cheesy  Would it be possible to add the name of the archive (minus the extension) to the clipboard so that it can be appended to an extractee if desired?

Hope I'm not asking for too much. embarassed

I'd also like to see the volume represented by a simple bar in the tray like VolumeTray.  Preferrably not green & red because that would be too similar to various task managers.

Hmmm...I'm not sure what you mean here
That's cause I'm an idiot who didn't realise the skins were for the system tray icon. :loopy:  While were on the subject, I don't know why you don't use a skin with the bar as default.  I'd also prefer the bar to take up the whole width of the icon but now I'm getting picky. smiley

for the next release, I have implemented a simple OSD per jbeek's request.  It's bitmap based, so it's easy to make your own customised OSD bar.  What do you think?
I like to have the system tray icon so that you can see the volume without having to change it, but when it comes to changing, an OSD is optimum & that one looks just fine.

Hi skwire.  Thanx for sharing this.

I love the leftclick mute functionality & the small mixer panel.

I'd also like to see the volume represented by a simple bar in the tray like VolumeTray.  Preferrably not green & red because that would be too similar to various task managers.

NirSorft Volumouse allows you to change the volume with the mouse only (no keyboard required) which is why I'll stick with that for now.

I made the mistake of opeining the options dialogue when it was already opened:

With your reassurances I opened the file & it was a miniversion of GetRight that then downloaded the DMEX Bar.

TinMan, maybe you'd prefer an in-between version.  Version 8 was floating around for a while.  I'm curious to know what features the newest version is missing.

I downloaded it fine but AVG Free reports it is infected because it is named .zip.exe.

Is that the same file that you downloaded safely Lanux?  Better safe than sorry.

Sri!

I can't believe that nobody has replied to your post.  That second application is a dream come true. Thmbsup  I've been demanding Microsoft implement all of those functions for years. Angry

Thanx so much.

Now where getting somewhere.

Thanx for that link.
66  News and Reviews / Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: InfraRecorder on: April 24, 2007, 10:43:48 PM
To avoid installing Nero, an application that supports NRG filetypes is required.  I had a quick browse & InfraRecorder doesn't seem to support this.
67  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Daylight-Saving Time Bug on: March 24, 2007, 01:42:58 PM
Australia had this problem when they altered daylight savings to conincide with the recent Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Everyone using Windows XP was affected.  Chaos!

Microsoft could have done more to fix the problem but didn't.
68  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Choosing a keyboard and a mouse on: March 24, 2007, 01:39:30 PM
The closer the keyboard is to your body the more you will benefit from an ergonomic keyboard.

If you have your arms stretched out in front of you, a regular keyboard isn't as bad as they can be.
69  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: What's your favorite eBay/auction helping software? on: March 24, 2007, 11:54:36 AM
I used to use one of these programs (Auction Tamer maybe?)

Later I discovered a free webservice that did all that I required: http://www.auctionstealer.com/home.cfm
If all you want to do is bid on less than 3 auctions a week, I highly recommend it.

I've used Volumouse for years.

Here's the original page: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/volumouse.html

I haven't had the need to try anything else.
71  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Your favorite Registry Viewer + Editor? on: March 24, 2007, 11:40:39 AM
Maybe Registry Explorer is worth a mention.  http://www.regxplor.com/

I like the fact that I can just copy a registry key and paste it into Windows Explorer.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it defaults to the Windows Explorer view.  In my case this is the thumbnails view which makes multiple edits a pain.
72  DonationCoder.com Software / Finished Programs / Re: IDEA: Scroll Thru Clipbard Contents When Pasting on: January 11, 2007, 01:17:38 PM
Hi skrommel.

Thanx yet again.

I'm having trouble with the latest version.  I've rebooted my machine & it seemed 2 work a couple times but then clips stopped being copied.

When trying 2 copy I got the tooltip message "Empty selection" & I couldn't paste the selection.  When I tried again I got the message "Same selection" & still couldn't paste.

The problem seems intermittent.

I'll try & determine the problem.

Still buggy.

OK, I've reread your post a couple dozen times & I'm beginning to understand... Grin

Thanx superticker.  Do you know how to set these priorities?
74  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: What's better: modern built-in motherboard sound chip or old sound card? on: November 09, 2006, 11:07:45 AM
Onboard sound is more prone to stuttering when the CPU is busy.  I've managed to improve performance on one motherboard by downloading a driver from the chip manufacturer, even though the MB manufacturer still provides new drivers.

Onboard sound is so common that U will probably have to get it anyway.  If you are not satisfied, then, you can worry about getting a card.

There is a program called Saver.  I haven't tried it.
