So it displays zips as folders?

Did Stuff-It have this functionality?
227  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Favorite ZIP/RAR application? on: August 23, 2005, 09:14:20 AM
I used 2 use ZipMagic.  It is by far the simplest 2 use because it integrated zips into the windows shell as folders.  I totally forgot that it was running.  The problem is that it doesn't run with XP. thumb down

The second link doesn't work 4 me.

I've sent the idea 2 WinRar because that's what I use.

90% of the time I delete archives that I have just extracted.

Wouldn't it B easier 2 have an archive context menu option "Convert to Folder".  Efficient!

Thanx 4 looking.
231  DonationCoder.com Software / Unfinished Requests / IDEA: Folder Colors Represent Path Depth on: August 23, 2005, 04:58:02 AM
I've always wanted folders that represent their path depth by color.  So if U R @ the bottom of a directory path, folder's would B, say, the usual color.  But as U move back up 2 the top of the path the folders become a darker shade of another color (probably red).  It would B an easy way 2 gauge path depth.

Thanx 4 looking.

Hi Skrommel.

The trailing dots (...) should be displayed only for tooltips that have been truncated.

eg:  If I copy the word "Apple" the tooltip should be "Apple" not "Apple...".  This is currently not how ClipStep works.

But If I copy the sentence
Quote
"Wests Tigers continued to re-write the record books on a glorious night at Telstra Stadium last Friday. In front of a new club record crowd of 29,542 Wests Tigers extended their longest ever winning streak to 8 not out while fullback Hodgson knocked over 9 straight goals from all over the stadium."
Then the tooltip should be
Quote
"Wests Tigers continued to re-write the record books on a glorious night at Telstra Stadium last Fri..."
This is working correctly for long clips at the moment.

Thanx again.

The first time I double click it the settings R displayed.

However, any subsequent doubleclicks bring up what looks like the AHK gui that displays the script.

It saves space.

The Start button is the most useless name that could have been given 2 the "Start" button so U can replace it with something useful.

I have enough items in my system tray & the more there R the smaller the taskbar buttons get.

Hi skrommel.

Thanx yet again.

I'm having trouble with the latest version.  I've rebooted my machine & it seemed 2 work a couple times but then clips stopped being copied.

When trying 2 copy I got the tooltip message "Empty selection" & I couldn't paste the selection.  When I tried again I got the message "Same selection" & still couldn't paste.

The problem seems intermittent.

I'll try & determine the problem.
241  DonationCoder.com Software / Finished Programs / Re: IDEA: Scroll Thru Clipbard Contents When Pasting on: August 05, 2005, 07:23:09 PM
Thanx 4 changing the scrolling direction.  I think it is an improvement. thumbs up

The tooltip for Clip 1 is always: [Cancel - Clip 1 of ##]
I was suggesting that it should just be: [Cancel]
But I would prefer not to have any [Cancel] option using Ctrl+C or Ctrl+V.  Ctrl+X only is perfect.

As for the numbering, I think the vast majority of clips will B useless after 1 use.  That means the files must B deleted manually.  I thought if the most recent clips were numbers 1 to 10 then you would manually delete clips 11-87 or whatever.  If the most recent clips are 78-87 then you must delete clips 1-77.  When you start copying again the clips would be numbered in different groups (I think).  This is no big deal.  I just thought it would B tidier & older clips would become less relevant.

One other thing that I noticed is the tooltips are not displayed 4 long enough.  If I am scrolling through the clips they disappear after a few seconds.  This is annoying if I am distracted or reading the clip.  After the tooltip has dissapeared you must scroll to another clip to get the tooltip back.

Also, I don't think the tooltip is neccesary when you release the control key to paste or cancel.  It is distracting.

Again, thanx 4 all your effort.  I find this very useful.  It should B standard in Windows in my opinion.
242  DonationCoder.com Software / Unfinished Requests / Re: IDEA: Duplicate files in a single click on: August 05, 2005, 04:48:41 AM
Hi,

sometimes inside the windows explorer, i need to make a quick backup of a particular file. this is how i go about it, i right-click on that file, choose 'copy' then right-click on an empty spot choose 'paste'. for me this is one-click too many. ;-)

so i was wondering is there a possibility of conjuring up an app/script which can do this in a single click. just right-click on a file & choose 'duplicate' and a carbon copy is created...
and also if the output file's name is configurable then it'll be a bonus...

thanks in advance
best regards,
lanux
I've configured this program 2 do just that:

Hi Mouser.

I didn't receive notifications of replies 2 my thread so am surprised 2 C that this request has been fulfilled!

Thanx 4 making that application.  It will come in handy.

I downloaded it off the main page but when I run it I can C the configuration dialogue only 4 a fraction of a second.  It instantly minimises & then there is no rightclick option 2 access it either.

Personally I don't really need it but thought U'd like 2 know.

Thanx again.
244  DonationCoder.com Software / Finished Programs / Re: IDEA: Scroll Thru Clipbard Contents When Pasting on: August 05, 2005, 02:29:28 AM
Hey skrommel!

Thanx 4 that.  It's pretty awesome. thumbs up

I don't know if U R interested in developing this any further.  If U R can I suggest a couple changes:

1)  Ctrl+Z should scroll through the clipboards in the opposite direction.  U R more likely 2 want recent clips & it is more efficient 2 not have 2 switch 2 the Ctrl+C combination.
2)  Remove the surplus text "Clip 1 of #" from the Ctrl+Z "cancel" option's tooltip.  (So that it is displayed like the Ctrl+X "cancel" option.)
3)  The most recent clip should B "Clip 1"

Either way I will B using it 4 sure.

Thanx again.

I don't use Opera but I stopped using X-Mouse because of the stay on top function mainly.

I did notice the odd conflict or bug.  That was the straw that broke the camel's back.

My pet peave is online forms that restrict the number of characters that can B entered in a field but don't report the number of characters U have already entered.

I would like 2 B able 2 select text & have a rightclick option 2 count the number of characters used.
247  DonationCoder.com Software / Finished Programs / Re: IDEA: Automatic Copy when highlighted on: June 23, 2005, 11:39:39 AM
U R not able 2 disable the autofocus behaviour or the "stay on top" behaviour with the registry.

U R stuck with those settings if U use the program.

I've emailed the author 2 tell him they should B optional.
248  DonationCoder.com Software / Finished Programs / DONE: Scroll Thru Clipbard Contents When Pasting on: June 21, 2005, 12:02:44 PM
Hi guys.

I have had a program called Ditto installed on my PC 4 over a year at least.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ditto-cp/
It keeps multiple items in the clipboard.  In theory it sounds very useful but I've found I never use it.

What I do think would work though is this.  A program that adds everything copied as a new item in the clipboard.  When I press Ctrl + V it pastes the most recent data BUT if I keep the Ctrl key depressed & press V again it instead pastes the second most recent item & so on & son...

So when U hold Ctrl you can tap the V key 2 cycle back through the items in your clipboard.  When U get 2 the end it can return 2 the most recent item.  And, if U go past the entry U were looking 4 keep the Ctrl key depressed but tap the B key (since it is next 2 the V key) 2 cycyle throught the clipboard in the opposite direction.

Can it B done?

Thanx 4 replying Mouser.

I've tried a few but nothing I've used has been better than the Task Manager so far.

A mouse hover tooltip that names the process that is hogging the CPU would also B cool.

I'm trying Process Tamer right now.  It would be good 2 know when the CPU is maxing out.
250  DonationCoder.com Software / Unfinished Requests / IDEA: ColorCoded CPU Display in System Tray on: May 11, 2005, 09:12:55 AM
Hi guys!

My first post!  I signed up hoping someone would think my idea would B worth working on.

I run the Windows Task Manager @ startup & have it minimized 2 the system tray.  It displays a bar which moves up & down depending on the CPU load.  One thing I've noticed is that the bar can B full when the CPU is running @ something like 95%.  This gives the impression that the CPU is overloaded when it is not.

I thought if the bar was color coded green for low CPU usage & the higher the usage the color would change through greens, blues (?), oranges, yellows & finally red.

If the CPU is overloaded it would B cool if the red becomes the background color & @ the bottom a white bar moves up 2 the top & back down again 2 indicate it is maxing out.  Maybe the white bar can do something different each time it shows itself, like moving side 2 side, diagonally, the red bar following the white bar instead of the white bar moving back down after reaching the top etc.

Cool idea?

Thanx 4 looking.
