Hi guys.

A while ago I saw a tweak to move drive letters to the beginning of drive names in Windows Explorer.  I could have sworn I saw it in the Donation Coder forum but I can't find it for the life of me.

Does anybody know how to do this?

Thanx 4 looking.

I'd love to see a button for the Explorer bar that does the toggling.

Living Room / Re: YouTube Audio Problems
« on: September 02, 2007, 11:13 PM »
Well I found the pattern, but I still don't know what the problem is.

When I'm on YouTube.com the audio works. But when the video is embedded on another website, I don't hear anything. Any ideas?
I have the same problem.

Thanx for the news Darwin.

For me the clincher will be something I've mentioned in my previous post.  If I add a new program to start without much of a delay I don't want to have to manually edit the delay for all subsequent programs.  If what you said here is true then maybe that wish has been realized?
don't start app x until app y has successfully launched).
Does this work?  How can StartUp Cop 3 determine if an app is succesfully launched?  By monitoring it's CPU useage?

I also like the feature that remembers how to handle reoccuring notifications.

Please, keep me posted.

Thought I'd glanced at something similar here recently but I had no idea it had already been done using the exact same method.

I thought this was quite clever.

SUMo stands for Software Updates Monitor

It is a tiny application than checks if updates are available for the software you use.
It is based on social networking : its database is composed of data sent by other users.

Exemple :
If you are running Winamp 5.22 and another user is running Winamp 5.23, if you ask SUMo to check for updates for Winamp it will raise an "update is available".
Works with any executable that has "version info" set by its developper (almost all exacutable have this info)

the more people will use SUMo the more efficient and reactive it will get.

FYI I set my menu display to 1 second & the problem was still there.

33
Well, I felt pretty stupid asking that.  Halfway through typing up my post I thought there must be a better way to waste 2 minutes of my life...BUT...I just tried it out & you were spot on.  When you finish utilising the script's functionality it restore's the setting.

Thanx 4 the heads up.

34
From my brief experience using the CAPS key for a hotkey isn't a good choice because you have to reset it.  Or is the CAPS key supposed to work without physically holding it down?  I tried using your script without holding the key down but it wouldn't work but maybe it did work & it was the unresponsive problem making it appear that it didn't...blah...blah...blah

I havent got any flickering on my screen! what display are you using?
mine is a CRT; with image persistance the CRT shows no flicker perhaps.
It's not the display.  Maybe flicker isn't the best terminology.  When I browse to a different clip the ClipStep "window" dissapears then reappears for a split second.  I have a zero second delay set for my system menus (like Start Menu, context menu) which look similar to ClipStep's display.  Maybe that's the problem.

I changed from tooltip because unless your eyesight is good, it isnt clear what youre looking at; also, it is confusing if youre not looking at the clip you want, whether you should go backwards, or forwards, so presenting a view of previous, & current & next clip helps to suggest whether ^v or ^c is the right key. It is easy to change the display back to the original though, it is still in the program under the label SHOWCLIP0:. The active s/routine is
SHOWCLIP:
I understand why you did it & maybe it would be preferrable if the GUI was better.  As it is now you are substituting a new problem (ie the flickering & lack of highlighting) for the original (small text) problem.

The new program does more than just present a list of all the clips that can fit on screen & the selection moves through them with a colored highlight. It offers proper search and a lot besides.
Sounds good!

As for the heading, 13 - - 1 of 13 , this shows the clip filename, which can be very useful, especially if it goes into high nos. It is a bonus which can be easily removed.
I understand & agree that showing the clip filename can be very useful.  I didn't say you should not display the clip filename.  I said the clip filename can be the same as the "sort number" so they should be.  In the case of Clip 13, it is not Clip 1 so why assign it the order of "1 of 13" and clutter the display?  It should just be 13 of 13.

Ive had a quick look at cut & paste with the mouse and found no problem, but then if I cut/copy with the mouse, I paste with the mouse too.
1.  Cut with the mouse.
2.  Open ClipStep display but don't paste.
3.  Cancel ClipStep display.
4.  Paste with the mouse.

By opening ClipStep's display you have sent ClipStep's contents to the clipboard (even though you cancelled).

The text originally cut with the mouse is gone forever.

Good luck with it.

I don't like the look of the Paste selection display.  It flickers when changing & the fact that the active selection is in the middle doesn't seem natural.  I'd prefer an option to view the tooltip instead of the current display display style.  What might work is a list of all the clips that can fit on screen & the selection moves through them with a colored highlight (exactly like the Start Menu).

PROBLEM:  If I use the mouse to Cut text & then use the keyboard to paste the mouse Cut text is not available.  Unfortunately, this was also the case in the original ClipStep.  However after cancelling ClipStep & then pasting with the mouse the pasted text is now the last viewed ClipStep entry & not the original mouse Cut text.  So you have lost your cut text forever!

I think the count format is unnecessarily complex.  eg:
13 - - 1 of 13  shold just be:
13 of 13

Oh boy....you haven't heard of MouseImp?

Does just what you want. Make sure you use the proper DLL if you want Firefox functionality. Or you can use the Grab and Drag extension for Firefox.
Thanx Nighted!

That's exactly what I'm looking for.
Here's an AHK script that gives basic, vertical hand tool functionality when holding CAPS + right mouse button + dragging. It should work for all programs that use mousewheel up/down to scroll up/down. Change the sensitivity through the xsens variable in the code if needed. It's very limited though: no horizontal scrolling, no drag hand icon. So if you already have a mouse with a scrollwheel then it's not so very useful. Still it lets you do long scrolls a bit faster and with more "flow" I think.

By the way, Easy Window Dragging (that I built this upon) is extremely useful - try it anyone who hasn't yet.
Nod5, that script is largely unresponsive for me.  Rather than troubleshoot, I'll stick with MouseImp for now.  But, thanx for taking the time to write post that.

General Software Discussion / Re: Custom Folder v1.2

Didn't know that.

If Vista automatically assigns the date & time as the new folder's name I'll go out & buy it right now.

General Software Discussion / Re: how to reduce pagefile usage?
« on: August 12, 2007, 10:12 AM »
Windows defaults a pagefiles size to 1.5 times that of the memory because the pagefile is used as the memory dump if something crashes.  Personally this waste of disk space & activity serves no purpose.

If you have large amounts of RAM you don't want Windows to be swapping memory to disk.

So unless you are using a program that is dependent by design to use the swapfile won't your PC run smoother without?  I can find no reason to have one?  Or have I missed something?

A Breadcrumbs Bar would be most handy for Save dialogues.

42
A caching proxy would be useful in a big organization. For single users at home, I don't think it'll bring any benefit in speed. In reality, if you think about it, it's mostly like the browser cache, so basically you're duplicating efforts. It reminds of RAM disks.

Agreed.  I was going to say how could it be better than the browser's cache?

I like the concept behind mdAxelerator: http://biglasagne.we...rk.pl/downloads.html

Use a hot key to create your folder & when the folder is created, automatically browse to it.  Useful for the save dialogue.

For me it won't display the date, only the time & then it won't remember to use that as default.

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Universal Hand Tool for Scrolling
« on: August 12, 2007, 06:17 AM »
Hi guys.

I've been using Adobe Reader a lot lately.  Now, when I am in any application that I need to scroll within (eg web browser) I find myself instinctively trying to use the handtool featured in Adobe Reader.  Problem is the hand tool is not universal.  And that's why I'm here.  Why can't the handtool be available whenever left-clicking is not going to perform any other function?

Thanx 4 looking.

I'd like a program to detect what folder I am viewing in Windows Explorer since that is so often where I want to save files to.

A breadcrumb bar would make life a lot easier too.

I'd like to see CHS replicate ClipStep's copy & paste interface.
