I have lots of alternatives as well. If this is turned on in dropbox, the prtscrn and ctrl+prtscrn override the hotkeys of SC and probably others too.
prtscrn and ctrl+prtscrn both take a shot of entire workspace and not the current monitor.

Dropbox, Version 2.4.1, can monitor the print screen key now, and optionally, with ctrl+prtscrn, will copy the public link to the clipboard.

fyi, i have both checked, but no windows explorer window opens after shot or save/save as

the unsaved changes come up after closing the shot, like i want it to

i do have the pop-up choice dialog set to show
and then the main window comes up with the shot
but still no windows explorer

You could try this to see if it does what you want it to.
It's for Windows 8 but seems to work in 7 too.
Hitting cancel will restore your defaults.

edit, i see you said 'interior separator'
this only does the exterior border

ZoomIt and I never could get along for some reason.
I know a lot of people use and recommend it, and I tried, it just never did the same for me.
Here's a shot of iconico's magnifier, using the magnify screen. It's an adjustable size screen that can follow the mouse pointer or leave the magnify screen in a spot of choice.

Found a couple of magnifiers for the desktop screen that I like.
They seem to be much better then the default with w7.

This one is my favorite so far.

Both are free. The second one, Virtual Magnifier, is accepting donations.
Each one works different, so it's a couple of good choices, imo.

You can use the escape key while holding the left mouse button down.
That is the way I cancel selected region.
Escape will not cancel after you let the left click go.

or unpressing the left click -
is that a word 'unpressing' ?

Ok, try deleting via CTRL+Q, or the delete screenshot tool icon on the right of the main window.

It works like it's supposed to using the keyboard key 'delete'.

I thought I was going out of town tonight, but that's canceled.

[Feature] New option (enabled by default) to auto-select next file after deletions.

First I can't find the option for on or off. Minor, but this might be the trouble. Don't know yet.

Having a little trouble with this feature.
After it was added it worked at first, then it quit auto selecting, as in being viewed in the main window.

To be more clear, it did auto select the next file after deleting, and the next file was highlighted in the Thumbnail Panel, but would not show in the SC main window. So the auto select is working but it's not auto showing in the SC main window.

I'll be away from my computer for a day or 2. Only time to take a quick look at the forum, but not much time to test.
