Hi, I'm Dan Chartrand from VueSoft, creator of VueMinder and PrintableCal. I'm doing a giveaway of PrintableCal Basic on Giveaway of the Day. The promotion date will be March 21 for anyone that is interested.

In addition, VueMinder Pro, VueMinder Ultimate, and PrintableCal Ultimate will be discounted 50% on March 21. I'll post the giveaway and discount links on that date.

PrintableCal is an add-in for Word and Excel. It can import and overlay calendars from many different sources, including VueMinder, Google Calendar, Outlook, Yahoo! Calendar, iCloud, etc. It includes over 40 calendar templates, all of which can be customized by the user. If you've ever been frustrated by the lack of printing options in your calendar of choice, PrintableCal bridges the gap.

3
Yes, that's correct. PrintableCal is a VSTO add-in for Microsoft Office. It doesn't work with other office suites.

Hello, I'm Dan Chartrand from VueSoft. I recently completed a new product named PrintableCal, an add-in for Microsoft Excel and Word. PrintableCal Basic will be available as a free giveaway on September 22 through BitsDuJour. You can access the giveaway here:
http://www.bitsdujou...e/printablecal-basic

PrintableCal can generate calendars using a large variety of templates and data from many different sources, such as VueMinder, Google Calendar, Outlook.com, Yahoo! Calendar, Exchange, and more. There's really nothing else like PrintableCal, and I think it would be a huge help for anyone that routinely prints calendars but keeps their data in a place that isn't primarily geared toward printing. For example, when printing directly from the Google Calendar, events don't word-wrap and if you have too many events to fit in a day, some get chopped off. PrintableCal solves all that.

See the page linked below for more details about what all PrintableCal can do:
http://www.printable.../Learn-More/Features

Enjoy!

Hi rgdot, Happy New Year! VueMinder just went on sale for 40% off. This sale will last until January 5. You can purchase from within the trial version or from the VueMinder website.

6
Hi Oress1934, you can import events from an Excel spreadsheet (or CSV file). See the documentation linked below for more details:
http://www.vueminder...ndarwindowexcel.html

If the calendar containing the imported events is configured to sync with Outlook, the sync will happen automatically. Otherwise, to configure the calendar to sync with Outlook, use the "Outlook" tab of the Calendar Properties, which described in the page linked below:
http://www.vueminder...seditor.html#outlook

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello, I'm Dan Chartrand from VueSoft, creator of VueMinder - a calendar and reminder program for Windows. Version 9.1 has just been released, and adds many improvements, such as the ability to add picture backgrounds to dates in the calendar. More information about the recent improvements can be found here.

To celebrate the release of version 9.1, we're offering a 50% discount through May 4. Optional lifetime update protection can also be purchased for 50% off. Maybe we can get a DoCo discount... I know I'm interested in the pro version... :)
For DonationCoders only, the following links can be used to purchase the Pro or Ultimate versions for 30% off. Lifetime updates are also discounted. These links will work until March 6:
VueMinder Pro - 30% Discount
VueMinder Ultimate - 30% Discount

If you're not sure what is different between Pro and Ultimate, the page linked below gives a good overview:
Feature Comparison

I must admit I've chosen not to upgrade it because at the moment google calendar does most of what I need, and I had some issues with vueminder opening the window when alt-tabbing out of a full screen application even though it was minimized to the tray which drove me nuts on the old box where opening vueminder could take 10 seconds :-[.
I believe this has been fixed. At least, I'm not seeing it happen on Windows 7. If you want to try it out on your new computer, please let me know and I'll hook you up with the latest version, free of charge.

If the text isn't wrapping in the printout, my guess is the box labeled "Wrap text" is unchecked. This box is located under the "Monthly Layout" settings on the Print window. It allows text wrapping to be turned on/off in the printout, independent of the setting to wrap text in the main window.

Also note, you may encounter cases (especially if word wrapping is enabled) where events might not fit in the printout. If that happens, the page linked below provides some tips on getting more events to fit.
VueMinder Pro Help Documentation - Print and Print Preview

A recently added feature is the "2 pages per month" box, which will split the month printout to span two pages, allowing plenty of space for events. There's also a "Calendar View" print layout, which will print the month exactly as it appears on the screen.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions, and thank you for trying VueMinder Pro.

11
VueMinder Pro can wrap the text that you enter, so it might be closer to what you're looking for. It doesn't (yet) support printing 2 or 3 months on the same page, but that's on the list of planned improvements. It provides many other features as well, mostly driven by customer requests and suggestions.

Disclosure: I'm the author of VueMinder. I believe it's acceptable for me to post about my product, if it's in response to a question about a specific feature my product can provide.

I'd love to see a portable version of VueCalendar.

A portable version has been completed and is currently undergoing final testing prior to release in a couple weeks. This version has the same features as the Pro version, except it can run from a USB drive/stick and doesn't need to be installed.

Many other often-requested improvements have also been completed for the next version of Pro, such as optional word-wrapping when viewing or printing by Month. I think the next version will be the best one yet!

Hello, I'm Dan Chartrand, developer of VueMinder Calendar, a calendar and reminder program for Windows. If you've been looking for an interactive calendar that can sit on your desktop, sync with Google/Outlook, send email or SMS reminders to yourself and others, and help you better visualize/prioritize/organize your schedule, you'll be hard-pressed to find anything that comes close to the capabilities and flexibility provided by VueMinder Calendar Pro. The current version is the culmination of more than 2 years of carefully listening to the wants and needs of calendar users, and integrating those features into a modern, streamlined, and very easy-to-use package.

VueMinder Calendar Pro is normally $39.95 USD per license. However, until September 28, there's a 75% discount - bringing the price all the way down to $9.95 USD. This is the biggest discount we've ever offered! If you'd like to learn more about VueMinder Calendar Pro, or purchase at this discounted price, please visit us at http://www.vueminder.com.

If you miss the sale, there's also a Lite version that is completely free for both business and personal use. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the Pro version, but it's still a very capable calendar program in its own right, and provides many innovative features you won't find in other calendar programs.

I am aware of this.  The links in question were removed months ago, along with almost every other external link (just in case).  I've request McAfee retest my site, and they claim it has been added to their queue.  However, that was a month ago, and nothing has happened yet.  I've informed McAfee that they're driving away my potential customers, but the canned response I received basically said "so what?".  Unless you're a Fortune 500 company with a team of lawyers, or can afford to put McAfee's "Secure" badge on your website, you're pretty much at the mercy of McAfee.

The last time they tested my site was at the beginning of February.  Who knows how long it will take for them to retest again? In my opinion, SiteAdvisor is more about making money for McAfee than it is about actually protecting people from malicious websites.  For example, someone that has a "green" site could add a virus-laden file for download.  It might be months before SiteAdvisor catches up to the content of the site.  In the meantime, everyone using SiteAdvisor sees the site is green and thinks it's safe.  And in my case, there were a few links to other websites that may or may not have had dangerous content (not my own!).  Those links were removed months ago, but my site is still flagged red even though there's nothing dangerous on my site, and the only dangerous thing that was there previously were LINKS to other sites.

In any case, I've done everything I can to fix this, but it's up to McAfee to retest my site, and they're in no hurry to do so.

--One thing I LOVE about Calendarscope is that the days with events in them will be colored nicely in the Navigation Pane according to the event color.  Most program, including Vueminder, will just bold a day with an event.  Having the different color in the Navigation Pane is better, prettier, and stands out more.  If you are open to suggestions, i would recommend this feature.
Thank you for the suggestion!  I'll investigate to see if there's a way this could be accomplished.

--Also another recommendation.  I can see that events can be styled in a very flexible manner (two background colors, font, gradient, etc.)  This is nice.  However, it would be even better if event categories themselves could be defined with a default style.  For example, all Birthday's could have custom-defined fonts, colors, icons, etc.  This way, when we select a category for an event, the visual styles will automatically be applied.  This is how Calendarscope does it and it is very nice.
Currently, event appearances will default to match the appearance that has been configured for the owning calendar. However, I believe allowing the appearance to default to be based on the selected category would be a good addition. This feature will be added in the near future - maybe not the next release but very soon.  Thanks for the suggestion!

happy birthday  :)
so is there now a yearly fee for upgrades?
or does this celebration include previously used settlement for lifetime?
When a license is purchased, you can receive free product updates and priority support for 1 year after the purchase date, including any new major releases. You can also use the program for as long as you'd like - the license itself never expires. After the first year, you can renew a service contract to continue receiving product updates and priority support for another year. The cost of renewing the service contract is $19.95, or half what a new license would cost. I believe this is fair, considering how often product updates are released and how much emphasis is placed on providing top-quality customer support.

Hello, I'm Dan Chartrand from VueSoft, creators of VueMinder Calendar.

VueMinder Calendar has just turned 1 year old!  To celebrate, we're offering a 50% discount for the week of August 23 through August 30.  Instead of the regular price of $39.95, you can get VueMinder Calendar Pro for only $19.95!

To receive this discount, download the Pro version trial and click the 'Buy Now' button within the program.  You can also click here to access the order form with the discount applied.

The first version of VueMinder Calendar Pro (originally simply named VueMinder) was released on Aug 27, 2008.  We've dug through the archives and found a screenshot of the original version:

For comparison, here's an example screenshot using the latest version (5.1.1):

As you can see from the two screenshots, we've been very busy in year since VueMinder was originally released, adding a plethora of new features. Here's a quick recap of the major features that have been added since the first version:
- Email and text message reminders
- Calendar and reminder sharing
- Tasks
- Appearance themes and improved default appearance
- Desktop alert reminder type
- Event list
- Date navigation
- Calendar and event defaults
- Configuration Wizard
- Automatic data backup
- Print layouts
- Mark events as completed
- Automatic completion when reminder is dismissed
- Recent reminder list
- Week numbers
- Customizable event appearances
- Configurable Calendar View settings
- Reduced application load times
- Analog and digital clock display
- Window docking and layout
- Excel import and export
- Outlook import/export and auto sync
- Enhanced tooltips
- Desktop Calendar integrated into Windows desktop
- Event and task categories
- Keyboard shortcuts
- Details area of main window
- Full-featured event description editor

To see the full list, check out the complete version history.

For the most part, these features were all based on the excellent suggestions and feedback we've received from our customers. And we're not done yet! We're hard at work on the next version (5.2), which will add a number of new and improved features and should be released within the next couple of weeks. Looking out a few months, we have even more features planned, such as automatic synchronization with Google Calendar, a note/journal editor, contact lists, and much more. We continue to gather feature suggestions from our customers and make improvements as fast as possible. Our ultimate goal is to provide the most powerful, full-featured, and easiest to use calendar program on the market. In our (admittedly biased!) opinion, we think we're succeeding, but we couldn't do it without the support of our customers!

If you feel powerless to affect the features of calendar programs provided by other bigger companies, don't despair! Give VueMinder Calendar a try, or take advantage of the discount this week. If you find it doesn't provide a feature you'd like, shoot us an email. We promise your voice will be heard, and we'll seriously consider any suggestions you may have. As mentioned above, almost all the features added in the last year have been based on customer suggestions, so you can feel confident that we'll take your feedback seriously. Give us a try!

Best regards,
Dan Chartrand

Steven,

An 'alternate DonationCoder reality' sounds fine to me!

We'll extend the lifetime service deal through the end of July, but to DonationCoders only.  After purchasing a license, send an email to [email protected], referencing this thread.  We'll then send you the information required to convert your 1 year service contract into a lifetime service contract, which will allow you to receive free product updates forever, for no additional charge.

If you miss this deal, don't despair.  We're planning to have other occassional promotions in the future, which could involve discounted prices, longer (or lifetime) service contracts, and other incentives.  I'll post about these promotions when they become available.

Dan Chartrand

I've removed the back-links from my website that McAfee apparantly finds dangerous enough to cause my site, which has all green downloads and no adware/malware detected, to receive a big red X.  Now, it appears McAfee is about 3 months behind in testing my site, so who knows how long it will take to get the red X removed.

I guess from now on, the lesson is to check McAfee before adding backlinks to download sites that ask for those links before they'll list my company's software.  I'm sure other software authors know what I'm talking about.  I blame Google.
:P

Hello all,

My name is Dan Chartrand and I'm from VueSoft, creators of VueMinder Calendar. We've recently released a freeware version of our calendar software for Windows, titled VueMinder Calendar Lite. You can learn more about it or download it from our site at http://www.vueminder.com

The following is a brief description of what VueMinder Calendar Lite is, and what it can do:

VueMinder Calendar Lite is a FREE calendar and reminder program for Windows. It supports multiple calendars displayed simultaneously in layers. These can be viewed and printed by day, week, or month. They can also be visually distinguished using unlimited combinations of fonts, background colors, and gradient styles. It also integrates a semitransparent calendar into your Windows desktop, so you'll always be able to see your upcoming events.

VueMinder Calendar Lite provides a number of reminder options including pop-up reminders and desktop alerts. Desktop alerts fade into view unobtrusively in the lower-right corner of the screen. Recently viewed or dismissed reminders are easily accessible and can be redisplayed with a single click.

VueMinder Calendar Lite supports the iCalendar standard, allowing subscriptions to calendars located on both your local network or over the web. You can also export to iCalendar files, and use those in other calendar programs. A wide variety of print layouts and styles are also provided, along with a dynamically updating print preview window that allows you to instantly see what will be printed as the various printing options are modified.

For an even more full-featured calendar program, consider trying VueMinder Calendar Pro, which allows you to publish calendars over the web or to your local network, import and export to Excel, sync with Outlook, send SMS and email reminders, customize the interface with themes and user-defined layouts, and much more.

Hi all, good discussion here!  I appreciate the comments, especially with regard to what you're looking for in a calendar/PIM.  That really helps direct our future effort, as VueMinder will continue to evolve and improve based on the needs and desires of its users (or potential users!).  Our next major version, 5.0.0, will be released within the next day or two, and contains many requested improvements.

1. It doesn't support categories - you need to build a separate calendar for each category (as with Google Calendar). I find this is clumsy way to work. But each to their own.
John, we're improving this in 5.0.0.  You'll be able to categorize both tasks and events.  There's also a built-in category editor, so you can add, remove, or rename categories.  When you rename or remove a category, all events or tasks associated with that category will be automatically updated, so it will be pretty slick.

2. More seriously, although the program claims to share iCalendar (.ics) files with other calendars/users, it is not "sharing" in the accepted sense -- instead it is "importing" the existing ics file each time, then creating its own calendar, and then exporting the file back to ics again, deleting the categories (if they exist) and completely overwriting the original ics. That was a surprise to me.
Categories will be preserved in ics files. As for preserving other things, we still have some more work to do in this area.  Changing this requires a bit of a redesign to how we implemented ics file sharing.

Questions for Dan.

"VueMinder Calendar is free to try and fully functional for up to 30 days. After 30 days, it will no longer run, but any events or reminders that you defined during the trial period will be waiting for you to view after you've purchased a license."

Really you should simply prevent new entries.  I hesitate to put in real data if it will become totally invisible after the trial.  Too much pressure.  I want to be able to at least screen view or print what I had without counting days or having to request a special extension.  Nobody is going to continue to *use* a calendar long on stale entries, so you will not lose anything.
-Steven Avery (July 21, 2009, 06:57 AM)
Steven, thank you for the suggestion.  That's a good idea!  We'll work on making that change.

"A single-user license can be used by a single user on up to 5 computers ...."
- Excellent (separate users on one puter - separate licenses though)

Dan, you have gone to release 4 from release 1 in about a year.  Has this required a paid upgrade ?  What is your policy.  I would hope that with a new software you would give something like 2-years (at least 1-year or 18 months) of free upgrades.  Have the release 1 folks been hit with 3 upgrades ?  You clearly go version to version much quicker than most softwares.
-Steven Avery (July 21, 2009, 06:57 AM)
Before version 5.0.0, anyone that bought VueMinder received a license that provides free updates for life.  So, people that bought version 1.0 have been able to update to version 4.0 for free, will be able update to 5.0 for free, and will continue to receive free updates for life.  While generous, this policy doesn't really make much sense from a business perspective, so we're going to be changing this policy when version 5.0 is released.  Anyone buying VueMinder will automatically receive a 1 year service contract.  A service contract allows for free updates until it expires, and can be renewed at any time - even after it has expired.  If you like the free updates for life policy, you can lock into it by buying VueMinder before we officially release 5.0.0 (but no pressure!)  :P

Thanks again for the comments and suggestions.  We're working hard to make VueMinder the very best calendar and reminder program available, and can't do it without all the excellent feedback and ideas we receive from customers and forums like this.

Regards,
Dan Chartrand

Hi Steven,

I'm Dan Chartrand from VueSoft, developer of VueMinder Calendar.  Sorry for the delayed response to this thread.  I wasn't aware of your post until just a few minutes ago.

Regarding the ability to define a custom grouping of calendars, this is a feature we're planning on implementing in the near future. In the meantime, you can combine calendars within the same layer by individually checking or unchecking the calendars you'd like to display or hide.  I understand if you have a large number of calendars and want to quickly switch between having one group displayed and then a different group, this could be cumbersome - which is why we're working on improving it!  :)

We're also working on improving the task list, adding the ability to categorize tasks and view them within the calendar.  The task list improvements are currently in test, along with a bunch of other enhancements, and will be in the next release.

I'm glad to hear you enjoy the esthetics of the program. We've tried to balance an attractive and customizable interface with one that is traditional enough to be instantly familar to new users (notice there's no ribbon bar?).  It's a fine line, so when I see feedback like your's, it helps confirm we struck the right balance.

If you have any other feedback or suggestions, please let me know.  We're very receptive to user feedback.  Thanks!

Regards,
Dan Chartrand
