To be honest, the only thing I've used by Stardock is the Object Dock, but I just found out from reading this Joystiq article that Stardock doesn't use copy protection measures in any of its games.

In fact, reading that article goes to show you how awesome they are!

As Stardock CEO Brad Wardell explains it, piracy is an issue that "has to be kept in perspective," and in a recent Big Download interview he further played the common sense card, stating that "the people who actually buy games don't want to be inconvenienced or treated like a criminal." Wardell adds that while Sins "definitely" would have sold more had piracy not been an issue, "everyone who buys games knows they could easily have gone out and stolen it if they wanted to."

Just reading that right there makes me want to support the company! And I've been hearing some mighty fine things about their game Sins of a Solar Empire. I may have to get it soon. :)

After all, I think the intention of the question is: When you get a new computer do you use the "preinstalled" Windows or do you install it yourself (including formatting preinstalled Windows first)?

The problem with concerts is that unless you live near a major, major city, you'll never see a good one.

Not only that, but when I actually did go to a good one (Blue Man Group's How to Be a Megastar Tour 2.0), I was so far away I was just looking at the screens most of the time anyway so I could see what was going on. Then a year later it was on DirecTV and I enjoyed watching it at home much more than when I was there, except for a couple of things:

1. I couldn't feel the music in my chest. -- But with the right sound system this could be fixed.
2. The didn't play a song (Exhibit 13) in the video that they played in concert. This song was very emotionally powerful to me and its absence from the video was very saddening.

I think it's just you, because I think the link I used for the image will show you what your IP looks like. To me, if it looks like anything, I'd say it looks like an evil/angry face with a "beauty spot" (aka mole).

#1 - WEP can be bruteforced within minutes, especially if you sniff some traffic first. Might not be a concern where you live, but keep it in mind.

So I have a conundrum:

My Nintendo DS can only handle WEP "security." It's either unsecured or it's "WEP-secure." I know WEP is easy to crack/bruteforce, but I don't really have much choice if I want to keep my neighbors off and still get my DS connected.

Although someone did suggest to me that I leave it open and use MAC filtering to throttle their bandwidth to speeds even Laggy the Snail could outpace.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

one of the things newegg has done for me before (don't remember if i requested or they suggested), is send me a new one before i even sent old back, by charging me and then auto-refunding when they get back the rma one.

Yeah I did that with a bad monitor (lots of dead pixels) from TigerDirect a few years ago. But I didn't see that option during the RMA process with NewEgg.

As far as I can tell the beta is limited to 2GB. And I can create and share any directory I want, but it's all stored in My Documents\My Dropbox\<subfolders>

This is somewhat off topic, but that site also had a link to this story:

Pirate Bay Turns Tables on Media Giants. Basically, The Pirate Bay supposedly has proof of media corporations using illegal tactics to sabotage TPB.

The charges include "infrastructural sabotage, denial of service attacks, hacking and spamming all on a commercial level".

The Pirate Bay said in a blog posting that the company now has "proof of the things we've been suspecting for a long time; the big record and movie labels are paying professional hackers, saboteurs and ddosers to destroy our trackers".

It emerged in July that MediaDefender, hired by the Motion Picture Association of America, attempted to lure file sharers to a fake download site called MiiVi.com.

The site installed spyware which checked hard drives for copyrighted material and reported back to MediaDefender.

mouser, I think it was just some random hex. Or maybe a serial number for an entirely different product, something physical, like a monitor or printer.

Phil usually isn't too kind to spammers and I thought this was a similar act of returning unwanted, rude behavior with equal (perhaps justified) rudeness as a way of saying "Go away! We don't want your kind here!"

In other words, I'm pretty sure Phil knows we don't advocate giving out registration codes and just gave doomandrei a serial number off of some other product. Giving him what he asked for (a serial number), but not really want he wanted (a serial number for the Spore Creature Creator program).

My personal opinion is that the solution is that if they're going to treat the media they sell us as if it doesn't belong to us, then they need to do something similar to the following:

  • Sell us a license to use the particular media that lasts our lifetime. This way we can enjoy our movies and music and books on whatever format we choose, no matter what new technologies become available.
  • Make sure licenses are designed in a way that the media can be shared with other members of a household. I shouldn't have to buy a separate license for my kids in my own house, and I should be able to invite friends over to listen to music or watch a movie, or loan a book to them.
  • Along those lines, licenses should be able to be sold or transferred to others, so people aren't left high and dry when they buy a book or movie they don't like, and so you can "loan" an album or book or movie to a friend.
  • There should be licenses made specifically for libraries that incorporate a lot of these features I just discussed.

They already are trying to treat us like we buy licenses to our media, so they might as well really make a license that doesn't rip us off at every turn.

I had the same issue - that's why they make flash drives, Copy & Paste functions... etc. ;)

Just grab your entire TrackMania folder from Documents and plop it on the new PC. It should bring over all your config data and whatnot.

I'm the reason why this is even mentioned. :) I try to find any way to cut the time, including jumping off the track and skipping entire sections of the race. I wouldn't call it cheating; I'd call it poor track design. And you can bet I'll keep trying to exploit shortcuts I find. But at least I report them so wreckedcarzz can fix them if he wants to.

I guess that makes me a white hat racer.  8)

I played solo and cleared a bunch of the medals. I think I had gold medals on all tracks for the first and second difficulties, and mostly gold in the third. Then I installed it on my better computer (which was out of service at the time) and found out that even though you have to log in to your account to play, it doesn't keep track of the medals you've earned.

So now I'm at the bottom of the list again.  :down: :down: :down:

First of all, you need to disable "simple file sharing" - and then you need to grant some access rights. Make sure you have identically named (and passworded) users on both machines, that makes things easier. On some windows versions, you can access the "administrative shares", on some you can't.

Where do you go to disable Simple File Sharing? I don't understand why it's so hard to get XP to let me access my files, but usually I have to resort to an external drive to accomplish anything. :-(

I have XP Pro SP3, FYI.
